Chapter 2: Mysterious Silver Light

“Boom!”

In just a few breaths, countless jade tablets and bamboo scrolls shattered, forming dense, ethereal characters at the sect leader’s command, transforming into a vortex that converged above the heads of the six.

Ge Yuntao watched this scene with a neutral expression. The scripture hall was of great importance, housing the sect’s ancient texts that represented the Jade Symbol Sect’s several thousand years of heritage. Sacrificing six outer disciples was already unacceptable; even sacrificing inner disciples or true disciples was a price worth paying!

“Spirit Motion!!!”

Sect Leader Cui shouted, pressing his hands down. Countless ethereal characters shattered in response to his roar, turning into glimmers of light that pressed into the minds of the six.

“Gather Spirit!!!”

Another roar broke forth, causing large clusters of characters to shatter and vanish like they were on fire. A wild shudder shook Li Hui and the other five as an overwhelming number of symbols filled their minds, rapidly sorting and linking into volumes of ethereal texts.

“Condense Essence!!!”

The sect leader’s shout echoed through the hall, and all six of them spat out a mouthful of blood, their faces pale and showing signs of exhaustion as they struggled to bear the influx of fragmented characters.

Ge Yuntao sighed and thought to himself, “Spirit Motion, Gather Spirit, Condense Essence—these are the first three realms of cultivation. The scripture hall contains numerous texts and talisman methods amassed over thousands of years, which are beyond the comprehension of their meager realms.”

“Command!” the sect leader waved casually, and golden lights shot from his wide sleeves.

Ge Yuntao gasped, “Golden Threshold Thirty-Six Symbols? Brother, weren’t you planning to use the Golden Silkworm Poison to forcibly enhance the strength of the candidates and engrave our Jade Symbol Sect’s texts? Why the sudden change…?”

“Golden Silkworm Poison?” The sect leader sneered, “The Poison Sect has been colluding with the Three Sects and Four Sects behind our backs. How could I safely use that? After confirming they haven’t meddled with it, I will grant it to our true disciples as a protective measure. During critical moments, it can increase their physical potential. As for these six outer disciples, they must use the Golden Threshold Thirty-Six Symbols to seal their acupoints; otherwise, nothing will be accomplished today!”

As he spoke, a loud “bang” echoed out, and thirty-six golden talismans appeared around Mo Xinghe, bursting forth with golden flames floating in the air, aimed at his thirty-six acupoints.

When Ge Yuntao looked over, his eyes gleamed with hidden brilliance as he pondered whether his sect leader had planned this in advance by avoiding the Golden Silkworm Poison to raise the cultivation of the six or had changed to the Golden Threshold Thirty-Six Symbols at the last moment. His true intention might be to prevent his junior brother from making any subtle moves.

Another loud “bang” sounded, and thirty-six golden talismans also materialized around Bai Yulian.

The symbols sparked with purple light, as if trying to break free from the talisman paper but were firmly restrained within a limited space. Although each talisman was only the size of a baby’s palm, they exuded an overwhelming aura, as if each one contained a sky, their combined presence threatening to cover the heavens.

As an elder, Ge Yuntao understood that the Golden Threshold Thirty-Six Symbols were akin to a Celestial Demon disintegration, which strained one’s lifespan. Usually, only elders like him would use them in critical situations.

However, crafting talismans was not easy; over many years, he managed to gather only a partial set. He never expected his sect leader to produce six complete sets in one go to be used on these outer disciples.

“Ha ha ha!” Sect Leader Cui laughed heartily, a fierce expression illuminating his face as he shouted, “Three Sects and Four Sects! Flying Kite Sect, Sword Bell Sect, Iron Zither Sect, Cold Lake Sect, Hidden Sky Sect, Ten Thousand Gorge Sect, Purple Gray Sect, I will have you draw water with a bamboo basket! Even if you find these six outer disciples, it will be an empty joy.”

Subsequently, the master of the Jade Symbol Sect waved his sleeve rapidly, releasing dozens of purple lights that bounded toward the six disciples, resembling tiny swords or jade worms, accompanied by a strange buzzing sound.

“This is… the Myriad Form Purple Absolute God Symbol?” Ge Yuntao gasped in shock. If his sect leader had resorted to using the Golden Threshold Thirty-Six Symbols, he could have accepted it calmly, but upon seeing those purple lights, his composure vanished, and a tidal wave of emotion surged within him.

Cui Yunpeng, indifferent to his junior brother’s astonishment, sat cross-legged and shouted at the hundreds of thousands of ancient texts, “Bosa!”

“Bosa” represented the fourth realm of cultivation, surpassing “Condense Essence.” It was said to be unpredictable, and besides related cultivation methods, the scripture hall held a myriad of talisman methods intricately connected to the Bosa realm.

Stimulated by the golden symbols, the six drawn by Li Hui unleashed their hidden potentials to expand their minds, showing slight improvement in their complexion as they gradually absorbed the ethereal symbols, effectively “devouring” a large number of ancient texts.

“Manifest!” A deep roar resonated through the hall, Sect Leader Cui’s face turning pale as he raised his hands, his fingers sparkling brilliantly. Countless tiny talismans surrounding his fingers ignited.

The “Manifest” realm lay above the Bosa realm, and the descriptions concerning it in the texts were scarce. However, extracting these characters and imprinting them into the minds of the six would be exceedingly challenging, with the difficulty increasing hundreds of times.

It was difficult—too difficult!

Cui Yunpeng exerted all his strength. For Mo Xinghe, Bai Yulian, Zhang Tianhua, Lian Luosha, and Gao Yuhu, things went relatively smoothly as the ethereal characters gradually transformed into a vortex. But when it came to Li Hui, no matter how many tiny talismans his fingers ignited, they failed to take shape.

“You outrageous thing! Your cultivation is so low, and your potential is even worse. Even using the Golden Threshold Thirty-Six Symbols to forcibly create an ethereal realm, you cannot touch even a fragment of the Manifest realm.”

The characters of the Manifest realm were utterly unreachable for Li Hui, infuriating Sect Leader Cui to the point where he had to gesture towards the other five, offloading the pressure, his pent-up anger exploding forth.

“Hmph, since you cannot imprint the methods of the Manifest realm, you will not waste the Golden Threshold Thirty-Six Symbols. Even if you are useless, you will be used as a resource in my sect!” Under the pressure of imminent disaster, the proud sect leader would do anything. He waved his sleeve forcefully, causing the records of talisman theories, travel journals, miscellaneous accounts, and rumors to shatter with a bang.

A massive outpouring of characters erupted, like ink spilling over, quickly converging into a vast ocean, engulfing Li Hui in moments.

Sect Leader Cui paid special attention to the other five and no longer cared to spare even a glance at Li Hui.

Ge Yuntao felt his face tighten, realizing the little ghost he painstakingly selected was quite lacking. He wondered how this child became an inner disciple. Thankfully, the other five were noteworthy and among the top tier, already having digested more than half of the characters of the Manifest realm, their expressions slightly easing.

Unbeknownst to the two elders, within that vast ocean of ink-like characters, an ancient travelogue was drifting, splashing out thin strands of silver light, dim yet steadily floating toward Li Hui’s forehead, ignoring the Golden Threshold Thirty-Six Symbols hovering outside and the strong purple light that had already imprinted on the nine major acupoints, settling in moments.

Li Hui found himself in a dream where someone pushed him to read. Fortunately, he was only reading the miscellaneous texts he usually enjoyed, far more captivating than the obscure and tiresome symbols of the sect.

Just as he was getting into it, a silver dragon flew towards him, opening its mouth to swallow him. He exclaimed, his heart racing, suddenly waking up.
