Chapter 151: "Died" and Returned
After the fierce battle, the forest lay in ruins.
Out of the eighteen mid-Gather Spirit demon cultivators, twelve had perished, while the remaining six fled a hundred zhang away, using their Slave Seals. Li Hui did not stop them, allowing their escape to prevent them from fighting back out of desperation, which might hurt the morale of his forces.
This group of cultivators could only thrive in favorable conditions, but once faced with setbacks, they immediately fell apart; their level of cohesion couldn’t withstand any tests.
“Clean up the battlefield,” Li Hui instructed as he headed toward the red land. Yin-Yang Nine Heads noticed something in the center of the red land. The Hongmo Sect’s push for the Wan Nest Island trial was to unlock the restrictions and formations in order to gather Heavenly Treasures and Earthly Treasures. The restrictions and formations they had previously encountered had clearly been emptied out, and only once the Mystical Yellow Path Talisman redirected the power of the red land did they uncover the first item.
“Five mid-Gather Spirit demon cultivators and eighteen mid-Gather Spirit demon cultivators—what were they protecting that caused such devastation?”
Soon, Chef Zhao, following Li Hui’s orders, cautiously dug into the ground and unearthed an ancient, beautifully crafted large cauldron.
This cauldron was over a person’s height, and it took twenty Concentrating Spirit stage cultivators working together to drag it out from the earth.
It lacked the unique patterns typical of magical items, and there were no air holes like those seen in most medicinal cauldrons; the surface was bare and showed no decorations. It was made of wind-milled copper, frost silver, and dragon scale gold combined together.
To many, this item resembled a water jug more than a cauldron, yet it was indeed quite valuable, containing tens of thousands of pounds of wind-milled copper, thousands of pounds of frost silver, and hundreds of pounds of dragon scale gold, which could serve as a treasure in a small bank.
“Xiuhuan, can you see what’s inside?” Li Hui thoughtfully asked. He found it strange that Xiuhuan had not been boastful about its ability to see through things, which was unlike it.
“I can’t tell!” Xiuhuan replied gloomily. “The creation of wind-milled copper, frost silver, and dragon scale gold in a specific ratio can block external detection. If this wasn’t the case, the disciples of the Hongmo Sect would have long since found a way to excavate this cauldron.”
“Oh? So the mixture of these three metals has such effects?” Li Hui was intrigued. Many occurrences recorded in the Jade Symbol Sect’s scripture hall were varied, but not all could be addressed.
“Don’t get your hopes up! First, the quantities of these three metals must be sufficient, and there can’t be even a trace of impurities. Plus, the techniques required to combine them are extremely advanced,” Xiuhuan suddenly shouted, “Quick! Send someone! The master of the Flying Sky Yasha and another demon cultivator fought to mutual destruction. That’s the true power of the Mystical Demon Talisman!”
Li Hui quickly sent someone to take advantage of the situation while instructing to capture Flying Kite Sect disciples. Huo Qiniang and Chef Zhao moved separately, each returning full of spoils by early evening.
Island Master Ju Liu had descended into madness, desperately taking down a man wearing wolf-tooth earrings and another demon cultivator with heavy makeup. According to the disciples of the Flying Kite Sect, these three were the masterminds behind the coordinated attack by the demon cultivators, having died in a state of sheer confusion, reflecting the peculiarity of the Mystical Demon Talisman.
“Ha ha ha! Your level is too low to perceive the aura of the treasure talisman,” Xiuhuan smirked, mimicking Li Hui’s voice while guiding Chef Zhao and Huo Qiniang in gathering the spoils.
Li Hui felt utterly astonished. He hadn’t even seen the enemies’ faces, yet he had wiped out the masterminds. Wasn’t this like a dream?
After a while, he recovered his senses, attributing it to Xiuhuan’s credit.
Such occurrences fell under the category of surprises, and surprises upon surprises, with nothing particularly commendable. The key now was to discover what was within the cauldron, as it might reveal the mysteries of Wan Nest Island.
The disciples of the Flying Kite Sect found themselves in a place where they could act.
Li Hui led his team out of the area, trying to get as far away as possible. The mechanical puppets left behind by the disciples of the Flying Kite Sect slowly began to move, prying open the heavy lid of the cauldron.
Suddenly, a terrifying sight was revealed to Yin-Yang Nine Heads, prompting Li Hui to shout, “Everyone, down! Quickly!”
“Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh…”
A blazing torrent of light swept outward with a loud whoosh, and within a five-mile radius, all the towering trees ignited, their canopies instantly carbonizing.
The horror was palpable as everyone dropped to the ground, witnessing smaller trees fall like harvested wheat, while the ground became increasingly raised and hardened. Thank goodness they were not too close, or else this single strike would have wiped out their forces completely.
Li Hui watched as his hands and feet grew clammy, still trembling with fear, finally grasping the concept of the dangers hidden within Wan Nest Island’s restrictions.
“Ugh, ugh, my mouth is full of black ashes,” Chef Zhao groaned, shaking himself as ashes rained down around him, almost burying him alive. If it was that bad for his size, how could anyone else fare any better?
The danger seemed to have passed as they crawled out of the ashes, gasping for air.
All around, the charred tree trunks remained, with cracks from the fire still visible—a scene reminiscent of the might of nature, akin to a volcanic eruption.
“There’s something at the center of the explosion; send the mechanical beasts and puppets over to see if there’s any danger,” Li Hui stood up, using Yin-Yang Nine Heads to observe the cauldron, seeing lava swirling around it. The cauldron was already collapsing and slowly cooling down.
“Yes!” The disciples of the Flying Kite Sect hadn’t recognized Li Hui and assumed he was a disciple of the Hongmo Sect. Naturally, striking down Island Master Ju Liu and three others would make him seem like a terrifying figure; who would dare to resist?
Once the mechanical beasts carried the puppets over, shortly afterward, with a loud “boom,” an explosion erupted. Although it wasn’t as terrifying as the first explosion, it was still quite significant, turning large areas of earth into lava.
Li Hui took a deep breath, reflecting, “This object is far too dangerous. Earlier, being able to easily dissolve the restrictions and formations was because the Hongmo Sect had cleared them out long before, removing the hazardous elements. Otherwise, it would have been impossible to guard against; one wrong step might cost lives. Therefore, being cautious can never be overstated.”
Xiuhuan spoke again, “There’s no need for further exploration. Inside the cauldron, Miao Jade was arranged to house a bundle of Heavenly Fire, which has probably been nurtured for many years and transformed into the Impermanent Golden Flame. Only the Nine-Nine Scatter Yuan Gourd you have can collect it, but the gourd will be rendered useless afterward.”
“Ah?” Li Hui hurriedly racked his brains to search for the Impermanent Golden Flame. His eyes brightened; this was something highly coveted by experts in the Bosa realm. Yet, the Nine-Nine Scatter Yuan Gourd was also an excellent item. Choosing between them was a tough decision!
Just then, two Spirit Motion Stage cultivators cried out in panic. Before they could react, their figures faded away.
Two figures fell to the ground with a thud—Hongmo Zhengfang and Qian Qiu Yue—both in a hopeless state, drenched in blood, having activated their Slave Seals to “die” and return.
“Damn it! So you’re a woman! Why didn’t you hand it over to me?” Hongmo Zhengfang shouted angrily.
“Cough, cough, it’s not time to use them yet,” blood trickled from the corner of Qian Qiu Yue’s mouth as she coughed up a few chunks of her insides, with a bitter taste flooding her mouth. She hadn’t noticed that a large part of her shoulder was exposed.
If there were any chance, she wouldn’t let anyone die in her place.
Upon turning to see Li Hui, Qian Qiu Yue felt a wave of relief before fainting. It was hard to imagine what kind of enemy she had encountered, given her Late Condense Essence cultivation, to be injured so severely.
