Chapter 1: Jade Symbol Sect – Li Hui
In the Daling Dynasty, in Haofu, there lies Jade Spring Mountain.
The highest peak of the Jade Spring Mountain range reaches three thousand nine hundred zhang, surrounded by snow all year round. The Jade Symbol Sect, one of the sixty sects of the Daling Dynasty, is located here.
From a distance, one can see mist swirling around the snowy mountain. A green Jade Belt emerges boldly from the everlasting ice and snow, home to countless birds and beasts, thick forests, and strange peaks. Each peak is adorned with magnificent palaces, carved columns and jade balustrades that are incredibly beautiful.
As the mountain wind blows, it brings a cool breeze into the scripture hall of the Jade Symbol Sect.
The hall, the highest among all, stands atop a cliff, like a proud eagle overlooking the snow-capped mountains, casting a faint green light that envelops the entire snowy Jade Belt, keeping the wind and snow at bay.
Feeling the cold wind, Elder Ge Yuntao of the Jade Symbol Sect shuddered.
He suddenly turned around to see an unknown figure had appeared in the hall at some point. The sharp features of the face were filled with anger, and crystal-like hands gripped tightly, making a cracking sound, yet they forcibly suppressed their rage, the gaze as tangible as a physical object.
“Senior brother…” Ge Yuntao called softly but fell silent afterward. He truly couldn’t remember how many years it had been since the sect leader of the Jade Symbol Sect displayed such anger. This calamity for the sect…
“Junior brother, have you selected the six disciples I asked you to prepare?” A voice like thunder rang out. Strangely, only the two of them heard it, not a single word escaping to the outside.
Hearing this, Ge Yuntao looked pained and asked, “Has it really come to this?”
“Yuntao, this time it’s not just one sect bullying our Jade Symbol, but three sects joining forces to encircle us. Those old fellows fear for their lives and do not wish to get involved in this mess. They may not even wait for that pen to awaken!” The sect leader, Cui Yunpeng, showed a fierce expression, clenching his fists, making a cracking sound, and coldly laughed, “Hmph, even if our Jade Symbol has no chance of winning, we must at least break their teeth from the Three Sects!”
“Have we truly reached this stage?” Elder Ge’s lips trembled as he shut his eyes in despair. How could such a vast foundation be discarded so easily?
“Quickly bring the people here; arrangements must be made early, intertwining the light and dark, fusing the real and the fake…” Even the proud sect leader of the Jade Symbol Sect didn’t want to think too long at this moment. While he had strategies planned, he could only take one step at a time.
“Understood!” Ge Yuntao walked heavily out of the hall, and after about a stick of incense, he brought in six figures.
These six individuals were four men and two women, all outer disciples of the Jade Symbol Sect. Sect Leader Cui stood with his hands clasped behind his back, his sharp gaze piercing through the six, strong spiritual sense flowing over like waves, secretly approving of Ge’s careful handling. However, when his spiritual sense swept over the last handsome young man, he slightly furrowed his brows.
“Junior brother, tell me about the backgrounds of these six people!”
“In response to senior brother, the first person is named Mo Xinghe. He has reached Great Perfection at the Spirit Motion stage and is about to integrate his Spirit Motion marks to enter the Concentrating Spirit stage. Among the six, he has the highest cultivation and is not inferior to the Inner Sect Disciples. But this little fellow has had good fortune and used strange methods to forcibly suppress his cultivation back to the beginning of the Spirit Motion stage, breaking and rebuilding to condense the Dragon Scale pattern. Now, he has re-cultivated to the sixth mark of Spirit Motion!”
“Dragon Scale pattern?” Even as the leader of a sect, when Cui Yunpeng heard this, he fell silent for a moment. Looking at Mo Xinghe again, he hesitated slightly.
“Senior brother, those who accomplish great things do not sweat the small details. No matter how fortunate this child is, how does that compare to the continuity of the sect?”
“Indeed, our true disciples are the ones who are truly exceptional,” the sect leader nodded, his gaze becoming exceptionally sharp, cutting off all regrets in his mind as he turned to the girl standing next to Mo Xinghe.
This girl was elegant; even though she had fallen under Ge’s spell and her eyes bore no trace of spirit, she still seemed like a jade lotus, only to be admired from afar. Her clear and otherworldly presence was rare, and her slender waist made most men wish to cherish her.
Elder Ge said, “This girl’s name is Bai Yulian. True to her name, she has a cool and indifferent nature, and her talisman-making skills are profound. Because she doesn’t care for external fame and fortune, few know of her abilities.”
“Indifferent nature?” Sect Leader Cui shook his head, “In the early stages of talisman drawing, it may increase the success rate, but later, it becomes difficult. Without emotional fluctuations, how can one draw beautiful designs? It’s not a loss to destroy!”
Even though Bai Yulian was pitiful, how could the two elders of the Jade Symbol be easily swayed? Without a second glance, he turned to the third person with a pair of sideburns.
“Hmph, this third person is named Zhang Tianhua. If it weren’t for the sect leader asking me to choose people, I wouldn’t have known there was a famous flower thief hidden among the outer disciples.”
Hearing his junior brother say this, Sect Leader Cui suddenly reached out, patting Zhang Tianhua, a hint of strange expression on his face. After a moment, he said, “This root bone is rare and can be used.”
Elder Ge nodded, clearly having understood Zhang Tianhua’s potential long ago.
Then came the fourth person, an enchanting woman with a naturally charming demeanor. Even when standing in a daze, she effortlessly showcased her most beautiful form. This girl was named Lian Luosha.
The fifth person was unremarkable in appearance, looking like an honest farmer. He rolled up his trouser legs, stood barefoot, and wore a dark, honest face that made people instinctively relax their vigilance.
Elder Ge pointed at the dark-faced man and said, “To speak of survival ability, it’s not the highest Mo Xinghe, nor the skilled flower thief Zhang Tianhua, nor the enticing Lian Luosha, but this Gao Yuhu.”
“Oh? What special qualities does he have aside from reaching the sixth mark of Spirit Motion?” Sect Leader Cui looked at him repeatedly, finding him rather ordinary.
“This Gao Yuhu is an artful recruit; he has previously been involved with six major sects, and the Jade Symbol Sect is the seventh. Although he appears strong and honest, in reality, he is an assassin-type character. He entered the Jade Symbol Sect likely because of Zhang Tianhua.”
“Oh? Interesting!”
Finally, Sect Leader Cui looked towards the sixth person and saw a young man of fine stature, tall and slender, with bright eyes and an extraordinary presence, looking quite impressive at first glance. However, upon scanning with his spiritual sense, he found that he didn’t even have a single mark of Spirit Motion and was so low in cultivation it was infuriating, making him look like nothing but a useless person among the six.
“Junior brother has always handled matters carefully; how could he choose this child?” Sect Leader Cui couldn’t help but frown.
“This boy is named Li Hui, who claims to be Li Yingjun. Senior brother asked me to choose not based on cultivation level but on whether he can survive. Among the three thousand six hundred outer disciples, I carefully considered and selected this seemingly useless fellow, as his presence to us cultivators is minimal. Perhaps when others cannot escape a net, he may turn out to be the fish that slipped through.”
“Fish that slipped through? Hmph, with three sects and four sects working together to encircle us, where could there be a fish that slips through?” Sect Leader Cui could no longer suppress his emotions, showing a hint of sadness on his face. With a wave of his large sleeves, the atmosphere shifted. Suddenly, the scripture hall was filled with hundreds of thousands of ancient texts—jade tablets, bamboo scrolls, secret rolls, and shells, all creating the sounds of cascading waterfalls as they rushed toward the six.
