Chapter 88: Palace of Stars
Compared to the heavily altered exterior of the Palace, the interior remained mostly unchanged.
Exquisite courtyards and towers dotted the area, adorned with vibrant flowers and greenery. Intricate artworks lined the mystical, flower-crowned corridors. Artificial lakes linked to underground water veins shimmered under sunlight.
Were it not for bloodstains, blade marks, and the lifeless bodies of Elves staring blankly in death, this could have been paradise.
Yet even the Palace’s secure heart couldn’t escape Skyfire’s devastation.
When cracks split the protective formations, relentless high-level elemental spirits poured through. The young and female Elves sheltering inside stood no chance against them.
Midi pictured the slaughter clearly.
After a silent moment of mourning, he stepped over corpses without hesitation, focused on his goal.
Now, he found everything straightforward.
No restrictions, traps, mechanisms, or enemies—even helpful signposts guided the way. A map at the central fountain plaza marked every key building.
This made sense.
The Elven Kingdom wasn’t a trial ground but a home for Elves, including royalty. Combat facilities had no place here; comfort and convenience mattered more.
The full moon bathed the night in silvery light. Lush branches wore a delicate glow.
A tiny stream wound through rock gardens, its surface glittering like diamonds.
A hidden nightingale sang, its melody pure as bells.
Midi wandered the Palace as if on a stroll, not an adventure.
Soon, a majestic structure loomed ahead.
Its doors stood open, welcoming a new master.
This was the Palace of Stars—the Elves’ combined treasury and library. Wealth and knowledge: if these weren’t heritage, what was?
Yet as Midi faced this legacy, his calm mask hid turmoil.
In his past life, the Palace had been looted empty. He, Fina, and Alice scraped funds by exploring Forest of Gran’s outskirts.
Now, he’d outpaced empires, duchies, adventurers, and elite mercenary corps. His power dwarfed his past self: fused with a demon god, transcended through transmutation, and mastering Ultimate Intent, he ranked among Arad’s greatest Demon Swordman.
Backed by two count’s territories, his status in the duchy unshakable, he could claim this wealth without fear—using it to fuel unstoppable growth.
The contrast with his past was staggering.
Midi steadied himself and entered.
Moonlight rippled above; starlight draped the opulent halls in dreamlike radiance.
The front hall stunned him.
Neat piles of rare materials filled the space: void iron, star steel, hardened gold, magic secret silver, heavenly stones, earthly stones, diamonds, bloodstones, aquamarines, obsidians, agates in purple and red, pale pearls—more than he could name.
Midi calculated: the cheapest obsidian heap could buy a Baron-sized estate in Belmar Duchy, securing a noble title and legacy. The rarer items? Beyond price.
“The Elven Kingdom thrived for millennia as a regional power. These materials are expected. Gather all from the Satellite Cities, and they’d multiply tenfold.”
Midi was slightly shocked but quickly calmed himself. His vision now encompassed the entire continent of Arad. Though he needed to advance step by step, this didn’t stop him from envisioning a grand plan. These materials were merely the foundation.
He passed through the front hall into the central chamber.
The middle hall held towering bookshelves stretching to the ceiling, flanking dozens of massive jade tables. Each table displayed an item spaced ten paces apart.
Midi scanned them. Some tables held potions, others skill books and ancient texts, while some bore exquisitely crafted weapons. These thirty tables carried rare treasures that could spark fierce battles if ever revealed to the world.
The most valuable items lay on three tables at the deepest end.
One held a staff pulsing with a Tide of Magic, its tip embedded with a rare dragon’s eye.
Another displayed a nameless black tome radiating ancient mystery.
The last table bore a thick book containing the Elves’ millennium-old alchemy secrets, level-up techniques, and even locations of century-old hidden treasures.
These three treasures, combined with the front hall’s rare materials, represented wealth, knowledge, and power—everything people coveted.
In his past life, the Morning Star Mercenary Corps rose rapidly after obtaining this heritage. The half-Elf sisters wielding dual pistols and Butterfly Dual Pistols became top adventurers through astonishing growth, which once puzzled Midi.
Now, having witnessed the heritage’s true scale, he understood their success was inevitable.
With this inheritance, he could build Fina’s ideal Hawk Brigade.
The challenge lay in transporting these riches from the Palace. Previously, the Morning Star Corps suffered repeated attacks after claiming the heritage, forcing Odel to abandon most treasures—especially bulk materials—keeping only vital texts and equipment.
But Midi had prepared.
He removed a pendant from his neck and chanted a brief spell.
A colossal Summoned Beast materialized—a giant silkworm-like creature resembling floating white clouds. Despite its size, the gentle Star Cocoon moved without disturbing anything.
Just as Fina gifted him the Black Sky Sword, Alice had given him this creature. Though lacking battle strength, its spatial storage capacity proved invaluable.
As the Star Cocoon glowed, every treasure, material, and restricted tome from both halls floated orderly into its body. Within moments, the Palace of Stars stood empty, the Cocoon vanishing back into its pendant.
With his goal achieved, Midi could leave.
Yet he stayed.
A burning question remained—why had that dark elf roaming gunslinger, rivaling the Hand of Nightmare in power, come here?
Given her Palace knowledge and ability to outpace him through magic veins, finding this place should’ve been simple. Midi had prepared for confrontation, even feigning distraction to lure her out.
But she never appeared.
Puzzled, Midi ventured to the rear hall.
Instead of treasures, he found a serene garden.
Here, magic flowed unnaturally—a directed current like water downhill. Tracing it led him to a statue hiding an underground passage.
This discovery hadn’t existed in his past life.
A warm breeze carrying vibrant life energy brushed his face, springlike and comforting.
“This…!”
Midi’s pupils contracted. Scenes from his Palace exploration flashed through his mind, forming a complete picture.
He finally understood the dark elf’s purpose.
If correct, the Star Palace’s treasures were mere decoys.
Worse—they were worthless.
