Chapter 132: Destroyer Cavalry
Though Midi was tasked with "defense," he never planned to rely on fortifications.
A single glance told him the unidentified cavalry before him averaged a terrifying level 26. Each rider emitted faint magic waves, resembling an entire army of adventurers!
Facing such foes, Midi knew the only viable defense was to abandon all caution and attack relentlessly. To charge without restraint!
At his command, all four southern gates of the Golden Branch Legion’s camp burst open. Six thousand Light Cavalry and one thousand Heavy Knights poured out like floodwaters through broken dams, their ranks stacking and surging forward.
Having anticipated attacks from multiple fronts, Midi had built four gates for rapid deployment. Now, the Golden Branch cavalry assembled outside four times faster than normal.
Defying conventional tactics, the cavalry scattered immediately upon exiting the camp, battle cries shaking the earth. Most Light Cavalry instinctively fanned out to the flanks, while the Heavy Knights—veterans of the brutal clash with the Sais family’s Azure Flame Iron Cavalry—spearheaded the center. At their forefront rode a black-haired boy astride a Blood Fang Panther, bearing a massive greatsword.
Midi Asreks!
“Hmph. Midi Asreks… You think this rabble can stop my destroyer cavalry?” Domingo, hidden among his central forces, glared coldly at the advancing figure.
As the “top expert in strategy,” Domingo refused to risk himself on the frontlines. He knew he couldn’t match even Martin in combat, let alone Midi, who’d defeated Martin in his frenzy. Yet precisely because of this, the sight of Midi leading the charge ignited Domingo’s desire to crush him utterly—to destroy not just the boy, but everything he believed in and protected.
Domingo wasn’t being arrogant. Midi’s Light Cavalry stood no chance against Heavy Knights, much less the superior destroyer cavalry. A head-on clash would annihilate Midi’s forces. If Midi tried harassing the flanks instead, Domingo planned to ignore him entirely. His unstoppable cavalry would trample the Golden Branch camp, then crush their main army from behind. Either way, Domingo held the Undefeated Position. In fact, this certainty was why he’d chosen to strike now.
As a reincarnator with decades of command experience, Midi understood the enemy’s plans perfectly. Yet he charged forward regardless, his thousand Heavy Knights a steel-tipped arrow aimed at the heart of the destroyer cavalry.
When the forces were mere hundreds of meters apart, the air temperature plummeted.
Frost whitened the grassy Graka Plains. Then, without warning, three colossal ice walls—each a kilometer long—erupted from the ground.
A basic Elementalist skill: Ice Wall. But wielded by the famously powerful Queen of Magic, Fina Hamilton, it became the “Ten-Mile Ice Wall.”
The plains now bore three jagged white scars. Though barely a meter tall—too low to block vision—the walls’ placement was masterful.
The charging destroyer cavalry couldn’t evade. Those in the rear managed to clear the first wall only to lose momentum for the second. Even the few surpassing the second wall exhausted themselves at the third.
Countless riders smashed into the ice. The walls exploded into glittering shards under the impact—a deadly blizzard of glass-like ice, blinding and slicing.
In moments, the iron tide’s momentum died. The destroyer cavalry’s fearsome aura vanished, thwarted by three simple ice walls that would’ve been harmless under normal circumstances.
Midi glanced back at the beautiful red-haired figure atop the distant tower, his lips curling into a tender, understanding smile.
His gaze hardened in the next heartbeat as the massive greatsword appeared in his grip.
"Follow my blade!" he roared, becoming a black whirlwind alongside his charging steed.
The thousand Heavy Knights behind him surged forward like a honed spearpoint, driving deep into the stalled enemy forces.
The Heavy Knights’ greatest strength came from their speed. Once halted, rebuilding momentum became nearly impossible—and Midi, ever the cunning commander, exploited every advantage ruthlessly. While the destroyer cavalry faltered, his Golden Branch Heavy Knights carved through their ranks like hot blades through wax, crushing all resistance.
On the flanks, six thousand Light Cavalry unleashed their arrows. Though some specialized with longbows while others had shorter range, all rained death upon the immobilized destroyer cavalry. Even level 26 troops couldn’t endure this relentless assault.
Caught between Midi’s piercing charge and the Storm of Arrows from both sides, the ten thousand destroyer cavalry moved like a mud-clogged giant—wounded, sluggish, leaving bloody trails across the plains. Their advance toward the Golden Branch Legion’s camp had stalled completely.
"Damnation!" Domingo’s face twisted as he observed the deadlock. Beyond the plains, ominous clouds swirled above the City of Rainbow Light despite the morning sun. The magic veins beneath Graka Plain throbbed violently, signaling the climax of the Sais family’s battle against Hamilton. Fina’s full-powered assault was warping reality itself.
If his destroyer cavalry remained trapped here until that distant conflict resolved…
"Full assault!" Domingo bellowed through magical communications.
The elite troops shuddered as blood-red energy erupted around them.
Berserker skill: Blood Awakening!
Midi’s sword arm tensed. Enemies he’d cut down effortlessly moments ago now required multiple strikes. The very air thickened with malice, transforming the battlefield into a monster’s lair.
"Break through!" he commanded. Heavy Knights couldn’t retreat—they had to charge. His thousand knights arced toward the enemy’s weak point…
Only to meet destroyer cavalry radiating crimson energy. Spears were ripped from Golden Branch riders’ hands by bare fists. Armored knights flew through the air like straw dolls. Momentum faltered—and without speed, death followed.
Then damp winds rose.
White fog swallowed the battlefield.
A crow landed on Midi’s shoulder, speaking with Mist Sorceress Alice’s voice:
"The Hawk Brigade is here. Give your orders."
