Chapter 90: I’m Here
When Zhang Yang returned, carrying Yang Xiuning’s lifeless body, the atmosphere in the courtyard shifted instantly.
Jia Tianhe and the other six lowered themselves respectfully to the side as they watched him walk into the room. In that moment, Jia Tianhe felt an eerie illusion—as if this man was walking through a sea of corpses and rivers of blood. A chilling fear crept into his heart.
He glanced at the others. Tianhao and the rest were looking back at him with the same frightened expressions. This realization left Jia Tianhe stunned.
Could it be that this man was truly about to make the heavens bleed?
Inside the room, Xue Feishuang was still studying the beast scale when the scent of blood reached her nose. She looked up, and dizziness washed over her, as if the world were spinning. Her mind went blank, and tears streamed down her face. She could barely choke out her words.
Yuluan screamed, “Senior Sister!”
She, too, had grown up in the Green Sparrow Palace and shared a close bond with Yang Xiuning.
Both girls burst into tears as they rushed forward.
Zhang Yang closed his eyes, unable to bear the sight. He whispered, “It’s all my fault. I was careless. I forgot that anyone associated with the Demon Slayer Team is a mad dog.”
“Who killed Senior Sister?” Xue Feishuang asked.
“Mo Chi’er,” Zhang Yang replied.
“A member of the Mo family,” Xue Feishuang hissed through clenched teeth.
Yuluan, trembling with rage, shouted, “Let me go kill her!”
Zhang Yang reached out and grabbed her.
“Let go of me!” Yuluan yelled.
“Killing her is easy,” Zhang Yang said calmly, though the killing intent radiating from him made the room feel as cold as winter. “But to kill her just like that? That would be far too merciful.”
He glanced at the others, his voice low and steady. “The Mo family is one of the roots of the Demon Slayer Team. Both the Demon Slayer Team and the Mo family are mad dogs. And since they’re all mad dogs… why kill only one?”
Xue Feishuang’s eyes brimmed with tears as she asked, “What are you going to do?”
“Senior Sister, help me write a message to the Mo family,” Zhang Yang said.
Yang Xiuning’s death did not cause much of a stir in Mo City. It only led to small-scale unrest.
In response, the Mo family openly mocked the Liu family.
“Just a friend of a dog from the Liu family—so what? What can the Liu family do?”
“Our Mo family has decided: from now on, we’ll kill all friends of that dog. What can the Liu family do about it? What can that dog do?”
“Mo City belongs to our Mo family. We kill whoever we want.”
Their words were a clear provocation—a direct response to Liu Feijue’s earlier humiliation with the Golden Dragon Shield.
As for Zhang Yang?
They had never cared about his feelings.
The Mo family was just that arrogant.
This incident made it clear that the conflict between the Liu family and the Mo family had reached a boiling point. If neither side held back, a direct confrontation would soon follow.
Some people worried, while others waited eagerly for the chaos.
But then, something happened that no one had expected.
Messages appeared on the walls of the Mo family estate.
On the left side, three bold characters: “I’m here!”
On the right side, six chilling words: “Within ten days, destroy the Mo family!”
These nine characters were impossible to ignore.
With many people passing by the Mo family estate, the message was quickly discovered.
Compared to Yang Xiuning’s death, these nine characters spread like a thunderous firecracker, instantly sweeping through the entirety of Mo City.
Mo City belonged to the Mo family; this was well-known.
However, the Mo family’s strength extended far beyond Mo City. They held two double-title holders in the Daxia Imperial Capital, with two martial arts marquises establishing their own marquis houses and gathering countless talents. Moreover, with the current emperor’s concubine, Mo Fei, supporting them, they were connected to the imperial family of Great Xia and held significant authority and positions within the empire. Rumors even claimed that a martial arts marquis from the Mo family was merely waiting for an opportunity to ascend to the title of duke when a vacancy opened among the nine martial arts dukes—further evidence of their formidable power.
For such an influential family, one of the top clans in the Great Xia Empire and a renowned name in the Southern Region, someone leaving a public message declaring they would destroy them within ten days was nothing short of shocking.
"Who dares to boldly claim they will destroy the Mo family within ten days?"
"It’s unimaginable! Who in the Southern Region would dare say such a thing? Even setting aside the Mo family’s own strength, just their connections to the imperial family and the many holy lands make them untouchable. Who would dare attack them? This has to be some kind of prank."
"I think so too. The situation in the Southern Region has been stable for a long time. Destroying the Mo family would mean challenging the Great Xia Empire itself. Disrupting the established order would never be tolerated by the other top powers."
"Maybe the Mo family provoked someone again. When people are too afraid to face them directly, this is how they vent their frustration."
"That’s probably true. The Mo family has always been ruthless and overbearing, killing without a second thought. I remember not long ago when someone casually insulted them, only to have their entire family wiped out."
For a while, the entire city buzzed with speculation.
The Mo family quickly issued a statement, declaring they would capture whoever dared to defy them, no matter who it was, and execute them publicly at the entrance to their estate. Anyone who provoked the Mo family would die!
At the same time, they slaughtered all the guards on duty at the estate, blaming them for their negligence. This was both a punishment and a display of the Mo family’s attitude.
The entire city was thrown into an uproar.
Even though the Mo family was arrogant, powerful, ruthless, and nearly untouchable, there were still those who resented them.
"The Mo family shouldn’t be so arrogant. They’re not invincible. The Demon Slayer Team was built on the foundation of the Mo family, and they were wiped out."
That statement seemed to stir up a hornet’s nest.
Mo City, which had only just begun to calm down, boiled over once again. People suddenly thought of one person:
Cang Mang—Zhang Yang!
Before the battle in the Vast Forest, no one would have believed such words could be spoken. No one dared to provoke the Mo family. Even the Liu family, regarded as the leading family in the Southern Region and one of the five great families of the Five Elements Commerce Association, had never openly confronted the Mo family—that alone was proof of their power.
However, the massacre of one hundred thousand members of the Demon Slayer Team in the Vast Forest had changed people’s perceptions, though the full weight of that realization had yet to sink in.
"I’m here? I’m here? Who else would dare say that? Only Cang Mang Zhang Yang!"
"Could it really be him? If you think about it carefully, he might truly be here to destroy the Mo family."
"His enemy is the Demon Slayer Team, and the Mo family is part of that. On top of that, the Mo family is the maternal family of the Seventh Prince and one of the pillars of the Demon Slayer Team. It makes perfect sense."
"At this point, aside from Cang Mang Zhang Yang, I can’t imagine anyone else daring to say they will destroy the Mo family."
Many people in Mo City began leaving for the Vast Forest, hoping to see signs of a large army approaching.
In response, the Mo family quickly declared:
"Cang Mang Zhang Yang, you brat! If you dare set even half a foot into Mo City, you will die!"
In any case, Mo City had fallen into chaos.
Realizing that Zhang Yang was likely behind it all, Liu Feijue revealed a playful smile. “If you can really pull this off, I, the Young Master, will be impressed.”
Not long after, someone invited Liu Feijue to a banquet at the Baoyue Building that evening. After thinking it over, he sent word to Zhang Yang, inviting him to join.
Zhang Yang’s reply was simple: “I have urgent business. I’ll come a bit later.”
After sending the messenger away, Zhang Yang gathered with Jia Tianhe and the other six in the room.
“You all know the situation,” Zhang Yang said. “I want to avenge Senior Sister and make the entire Mo family pay. Are you willing to join me in this battle?”
