Chapter 88: The Mystery of the Beast Scale
Jia Tianhe stayed behind at Zhang Yang’s request, without needing to follow him around.
The other six, eager to explore after having been confined for so long, didn’t hold back and gladly accepted the ten million spirit stones.
Jia Tianhe nodded and said, “I understand. You want to trick people, and my presence would only get in the way.”
Zhang Yang twitched his mouth. He felt his reputation was about to take a hit. This was all Liu Feijue’s fault. If not for his lousy attitude provoking him, Zhang Yang wouldn’t have gone so far as to ruin his own name in retaliation. He decided he needed to “buy” something to feel better.
He went to visit Lou Pingfan, but the door was tightly shut, and no one answered. Clearly, someone inside was pretending not to be home.
Zhang Yang had no choice but to give up. After all, he couldn’t force someone with “face” to sell him anything.
As dusk approached, the setting sun cast a faint yellow glow across the sky.
After a bustling day, Mo City returned to silence.
Liu Feijue’s wild laughter shattered the peace as he finally gained complete control of the Golden Dragon Shield.
Mastering a quasi-holy weapon so easily, thanks to external forces, demonstrated the advantages of a great power.
Liu Feijue didn’t bother seeking out Zhang Yang. Instead, he went directly to the Mo family, considering Zhang Yang unworthy of his attention. In his eyes, the Mo family was a far more suitable target for ridicule and provocation.
Zhang Yang, however, remained calm and indifferent. He wasn’t in any hurry.
Others might have been second- or third-generation rich; he aspired to be the first generation of true wealth.
When night fell, the six members of the Golden Armored Giant Clan returned.
Jia Tianhe immediately noticed something strange about their expressions and eyes.
“Tianhao, you speak,” he instructed.
The six gathered around the most eloquent among them, Jia Tianhao.
Jia Tianhao smacked his lips and said, “At first, I didn’t believe it. So I spent the entire day asking around. After gathering the information, I discovered it’s all true.”
“What didn’t you believe? What’s true?” Jia Tianhe asked.
Jia Tianhao pointed toward the room and said, “That man… he actually has even more enemies than our Golden Armored Giant Clan, and by a large margin.”
He accurately reported all the information he had gathered—without exaggeration or omission—revealing the full situation.
Jia Tianhe stood there in shock for a long time, completely stunned.
The seven fell into silence.
They had thought that being enemies with the Great Xia Empire and the Ghostly Divine Platform was already unthinkable. Who in the Southern Region would dare to oppose two holy-grade powers at the same time?
Yet, Zhang Yang had nearly made enemies of all the holy-grade forces in the Southern Region.
Creak~~ The door opened, and Zhang Yang waved them inside.
The seven entered the room.
After closing the door, Zhang Yang smiled and asked, “How was your day?”
The six remained silent.
Zhang Yang looked at Jia Tianhe, who was still processing everything, and said, “Old Jia, are you scared to stay with me?”
“I, Jia Tianhe of the Golden Armored Giant Clan, am never afraid,” Jia Tianhe replied. “I’m just… a bit surprised.”
Zhang Yang smiled without saying anything.
After a moment of silence, Jia Tianhe added, “You’ve certainly caught me off guard.”
Zhang Yang chuckled. “This is only the first of ten days. There are more surprises ahead.”
Jia Tianhe remarked, “I really can’t understand how someone bold enough to challenge the rules of the Southern Region can also be such a fool.”
Zhang Yang remained silent.
After such an eventful day, the seven needed time to process everything.
For them, after being bound for so long, standing tall against the Great Xia Empire and the Ghostly Divine Platform had been a source of pride—holding their heads high, even in the face of death.
And yet, someone they had barely noticed had suddenly appeared, and his actions genuinely shocked them.
After sending them off to rest, Zhang Yang resumed his quiet meditation, focusing on solidifying his martial foundation.
In the early morning hours, Xue Feishuang excitedly woke him up.
They were in the same suite, which contained several inner and outer rooms.
“Junior Brother, I’ve figured out what this beast scale is!” she said, her charming face glowing with excitement.
Yuluan leaned in and asked, “What is it?”
Zhang Yang took the beast scale and examined it closely, but he couldn’t make sense of it.
Xue Feishuang took a deep breath and exclaimed, “It’s an ancient teleportation array!”
Zhang Yang and Yuluan both cried out in surprise, “Really?!”
Ancient teleportation arrays had been common in the vast world before the Eternal Night, but since then, they had become rare relics. No one could create them anymore, and only a few ancient treasures remained. Most were consumable and steadily dwindling in number.
“Can we use this to go anywhere we want?” Zhang Yang asked.
“Theoretically, yes,” Xue Feishuang explained, “but for very distant locations, we would need spatial coordinates. However, I believe someone in the Ice and Snow Divine Palace might know about this and could provide us with the necessary coordinates. If we have enough spirit stones to activate it, we could teleport wherever we wish.”
Yuluan murmured, “We have many treasures, but we lack spirit stones.”
Zhang Yang replied confidently, “Old Lou must have some. I’ll go buy some from him tomorrow.”
Xue Feishuang and Yuluan exchanged glances and smiled.
That night, beneath the calm twilight, a major conflict nearly erupted.
It came from Liu Feijue’s provocation at the Mo family.
Whether he was reveling in his acquisition of the Golden Dragon Shield or venting his anger over the countless treasures and people Zhang Yang had taken from him—as well as the blow to his reputation—he stirred up trouble at the Mo family, nearly pushing some of them into taking action against him.
In the end, the elder members of the Mo family forced Liu Feijue out, and he left while laughing maniacally.
However, the undercurrents within Mo City only grew more intense as a result.
As the sun rose, the chilly morning breeze swept away the fallen petals and leaves.
Mo City, quiet through the night, buzzed with life once more.
Zhang Yang set off early, heading out alone to find Lou Pingfan.
Xue Feishuang remained behind, continuing her research on the beast scale.
Yuluan stayed with Jia Tianhe and the others, thoroughly answering their questions about the Demon Slayer Team’s experiences.
Although Yuluan was not particularly eloquent, her passionate storytelling allowed everyone to feel the emotion behind each moment.
Jia Tianhe and the others listened with great interest.
Meanwhile, Lou Pingfan’s door was tightly shut.
Zhang Yang heard the news as soon as he stepped outside.
Upon arriving, he knocked on the door and called out, “Old Lou, I know you’re in there. Hurry up and come out; I have a deal to discuss with you.”
Inside, silence reigned.
Even a servant came out to inform him that Lou Pingfan had unexpectedly left Mo City.
Zhang Yang exclaimed with delight, “Really? That’s great! I’ll go move some things.”
The mention of “moving” made Lou Pingfan unable to hold back any longer. He rushed out.
“Hey! Old Lou, you’re quick! As soon as you heard I was moving things, you came right back,” Zhang Yang said.
Lou Pingfan waved his hand, sending the servant away, and asked, “What do you really want?”
Zhang Yang replied, “Oh, nothing much. I just want to buy some spirit stones. Listen carefully; I said buy.”
Lou Pingfan felt his nose twitch in irritation. Did Zhang Yang even understand the meaning of the word “buy”?
“None,” Lou Pingfan replied curtly.
“Are you sure?” Zhang Yang asked. “If you really don’t have any, I’ll just go buy some from the Mo family. I’m sure they’ll sell to me since I’m a Gold Medallion Appraiser.”
Lou Pingfan felt his frustration mount. Was this fool deliberately making things difficult for him?
Given their current relationship with the Mo family, buying from them would be a direct slap in the face! And the key issue was that Zhang Yang really was a Gold Medallion Appraiser.
“I just remembered—I should have a few left,” Lou Pingfan gritted his teeth, searching for a way out.
Zhang Yang smiled. “Now that’s more like it. How many do you have? I’ll take them all.”
Lou Pingfan’s mouth twitched several times. “No need to buy. I’ll give them to you—as long as you don’t come looking for me for the next month.”
Zhang Yang replied seriously, “How could that be? I still want to have tea with you a few more times.”
Lou Pingfan wanted to curse. This fool really knew how to take advantage!
