Chapter 55: Looking Back

Zhang Yang still trusted the Night Stalker. He was the first person Zhang Yang had saved, and this man was certainly not greedy. Even when given the chance to comprehend the footprints of the saint, he had unhesitatingly given it up, proving his integrity.

“The whole team will need your guidance and training. It won’t be easy,” Zhang Yang said.

The Night Stalker patted his chest and promised, “Don’t worry. I won’t disappoint you.”

Yuluan added, “Brother Ye, make sure to secure the loyalty of your members.”

“I understand,” the Night Stalker replied, his excitement evident as he hurried off to get started.

Everyone else began to clean the battlefield, preparing for a celebration.

Zhang Yang personally escorted Ding Yunpeng to the prison.

The prison had been specially prepared.

At present, it held only two people: Jin Yuguan and Yun Luofeng.

Ding Yunpeng became the third.

“Zhang Yang, what do you want?” Yun Luofeng’s voice was sharp; he had already been castrated.

Jin Yuguan also stared coldly at him.

Zhang Yang smiled and said, “No need to rush. Lu Fang has already lost, and your Seventh Prince should be arriving soon. When that time comes, your lives will be in his hands.”

Jin Yuguan shouted, “You want to use us to threaten the prince? Impossible!”

“Hah, you’re overthinking it,” Zhang Yang replied. “I just want to see how inhumane that mad dog, the Seventh Prince, really is.”

“Impudent! How dare you insult the prince!” Jin Yuguan roared in anger.

But Zhang Yang didn’t bother getting angry. He simply laughed and said, “He’s not just a mad dog; his Demon Slayer Team is a pack of mad dogs as well. I believe that in the future, everyone in the Southern Region will come to recognize this.”

He couldn’t be bothered to argue with them any further. After finishing his words, he turned and left.

Once outside, he rounded two corners and leaped onto a rooftop in a secluded area, where he lay down to observe the prison from afar.

Before long, a figure dressed in black silently approached the prison and quickly slipped inside.

A cold smile appeared at the corner of Zhang Yang’s mouth. Even though the man in black used secret techniques to suppress his presence and sound, Zhang Yang could still vaguely sense him. By circulating his energy to enhance his hearing, he could even pick up faint heartbeats, the flow of blood, and other subtle movements.

He didn’t bother watching—he simply listened.

Before long, the figure in black entered the prison.

The three prisoners wisely remained silent, observing him.

The man in black lowered the cloth covering his face, revealing his true identity—a middle-aged man.

“Lord Yun!”

“Uncle!”

Jin Yuguan immediately recognized him. He was Yun Dongli, ranked fourth among the seventy-one lords of the Great Xia Empire and Yun Luofeng’s uncle.

“Uncle, I’m finished,” Yun Luofeng cried out upon finally seeing a family member.

Yun Dongli replied coldly, “Why are you crying? As long as you cultivate properly and reach the Immeasurable Stage, you can learn rebirth techniques and regain what you’ve lost.”

“Really?” Yun Luofeng exclaimed, his face lighting up with hope.

“Hmph! Do you think I would deceive you?” Yun Dongli’s expression remained grim.

Both of his beloved sons had died.

He had cherished Yun Liuhuo and Yun Dongji deeply, even naming them after himself.

Now, with their deaths, the entire new generation of the Yun family had only one remaining member with true potential—Yun Luofeng. For this reason, he had been willing to take the risk to come here.

“Uncle, please help me get out of here. Once I return, I promise I’ll devote myself to training,” Yun Luofeng pleaded.

Jin Yuguan and Ding Yunpeng also looked at Yun Dongli with hope in their eyes.

Yun Dongli responded coldly, “The Howling Wolf Palace is incredibly powerful now. My arrival here was already a great risk. If I tried to take you with me, we wouldn’t be able to escape. But don’t worry. Before I came, the Seventh Prince told me that within a month, he would personally lead an army here. When that time comes, I will coordinate the rescue, and together we will eliminate them.”

“Excellent!” Jin Yuguan said excitedly. “If the Seventh Prince comes, he’ll definitely be able to defeat that monster Zhang Yang.”

Yun Dongli took out three healing pills and handed them to the three prisoners. He gave them final instructions: “These pills won’t just help you recover instantly; they can also unleash your full power. You’ll feel weak for a few days afterward, but they will be enough to get you through a critical moment. Remember, do not use them lightly. Wait until I come to rescue you. These are your lifelines.”

The three of them nodded.

Yun Dongli soon departed.

Naturally, he had no idea that Zhang Yang had been secretly observing the entire exchange.

After Yun Dongli left, Zhang Yang muttered to himself, “A month? What is that mad dog, the Seventh Prince, planning? Even if he left Green Sparrow Palace right now, without pushing his army to the limit, he could arrive here in half a month. So why wait a full month? Secluded training? No way. What is he scheming?”

After the battlefield was cleaned up and a few minor matters were handled, Li Kunhai hosted a celebratory banquet.

This time, even Li Kunhai couldn’t hide his excitement over the outcome of the battle.

The reckless assaults and repeated attacks from the Demon Slayer Team had cost them very few losses and provided excellent tempering for everyone, greatly improving their strength.

Zhang Yang also attended the banquet.

Except for the Snow Guards, who remained behind to protect Xue Feishuang, everyone else came.

That night, the entire group celebrated joyfully, no longer feeling any fear of being ambushed by the Demon Slayer Team. For the first time, they felt completely at ease.

The truth was, the Demon Slayer Team didn’t have the courage to launch another attack.

With Zhang Yang present, they wouldn’t dare—not anymore. At least, that’s what everyone believed.

The only thing that troubled Zhang Yang was the alcohol.

Others, even those at the Immeasurable Stage, could drink and remain comfortably tipsy without much effort.

But not Zhang Yang. No matter how much he drank, he felt nothing—always perfectly sober.

A tipsy Yuluan found him and leaned in close to whisper in his ear, “Little monster, don’t think you can take advantage and get away with it.”

“What does Sister Yu want?” Zhang Yang asked.

Yuluan’s beautiful face flushed slightly, her drunken charm showing as she said, “Of course, I want to take a look.”

Zhang Yang blinked and said, “How about we take a look right now?”

He grabbed Yuluan’s hand and started to walk.

Yuluan immediately blushed, broke free, and spat, “I didn’t notice it before, but you’re just a little pervert.”

“Oh, Sister Yu has discovered me,” Zhang Yang said with a grin, his gaze sweeping over her as if seeing right through her. This made Yuluan furious, and she chased after him, trying to hit him.

The night passed in joy and laughter.

Over the next five days, Zhang Yang focused on his training.

After mastering wind and thunder, he moved on to light.

The so-called light referred to sunlight.

Without the appropriate treasures, he could only absorb sunlight during the day to cultivate. Although the effects were somewhat limited, it still allowed for steady progress.

However, it was the rainy season, and clear skies were rare.

When it rained, he spent his time watching battles.

A fierce rivalry had broken out between the Ironback Blue Bull and the Purple-Eyed Thunder Bird.

Both were Zhang Yang’s beast pets, bound to him through the Blood Contract, and both desired to become the leader.

The Ironback Blue Bull took pride in having been the first to follow Zhang Yang and had served him loyally for a long time.

The Purple-Eyed Thunder Bird, however, was immensely powerful and commanded an entire bird army.

As a result, for five consecutive days, the bull and the bird fought relentlessly.

Despite the Purple-Eyed Thunder Bird’s astonishing transformations and high level, it still couldn’t gain the upper hand within the constraints of the Vast Forest.

One had to admit that the Ironback Blue Bull, usually so quiet, was truly formidable in battle.

Thanks to the Blood Contract, the ancient giant elephant bloodline, and the nourishment of Blood Spirit Flowers, it had long since become something extraordinary.

On the sixth day, the Golden Ape King emerged from his seclusion once again.

This time, his return was different. He had undergone yet another transformation, and his strength had increased once more. He even gave himself a new name—Yuan Tong.

In addition, he informed Zhang Yang that during his seclusion, the Small Tree King had briefly awakened and revealed the location of a place of great fortune.
