Chapter 5: The Two Divine Powers
As the bull ran, Zhang Yang examined the giant elephant token.
He turned it over in his hands more than ten times, but he couldn’t find anything particularly special about it. The only notable detail was the intricate carving of a giant elephant, so lifelike that it seemed as if it might step out of the token at any moment. It gave him the vague impression that something was hidden within.
While he pondered its secrets, the Ironback Blue Bull suddenly stopped running. Tilting its head, it squinted at him.
“Brother Bull, why do I feel like you’re looking down on me?” Zhang Yang asked, sensing the bull’s emotions clearly through their Blood Contract.
The bull nodded.
The corner of Zhang Yang’s mouth twitched—he was actually being looked down upon by a bull.
Without warning, the bull shook violently, tossing Zhang Yang off its back. It then raised its left foreleg, lowered its head, and bit into itself, letting its blood drip onto the giant elephant token.
Both Zhang Yang and the bull stared intently.
Moments passed, but the token remained unchanged.
“Brother Bull, you sure have a wealth of experience,” Zhang Yang said, laughing heartily.
Suddenly—
The bull bit Zhang Yang’s hand.
He cried out in pain as the bull grabbed his sleeve and forcefully pulled his hand toward the token, making his blood drip onto it.
The moment his blood touched the token, a deep, ancient roar echoed as if from a distant era.
A streak of blue light erupted from the carving of the elephant, surging straight into Zhang Yang’s body.
In that instant, his blood seemed to boil, rushing through his veins like the mighty Yangtze River. A faint sound of thunder rumbled in the depths of his mind.
He thought he was about to receive a great fortune, but then—
A terrified scream shattered the moment.
The streak of blue light abruptly shot out of his body and plunged into the Ironback Blue Bull instead.
Almost immediately, a chaotic surge of energy erupted from within the bull. It let out a pained roar before bolting forward at full speed.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Trees and rocks ahead were obliterated on impact.
In the blink of an eye, the bull vanished from sight.
Yet through the Blood Contract, Zhang Yang could still feel its pain—alongside an overwhelming sense of ecstasy.
The bull was evolving.
According to Xue Feishuang, the Blood Contract formed through Zhang Yang’s blood was the foundation of the bull’s growth. Now, the power within the giant elephant token was strengthening its bloodline even further.
But what puzzled Zhang Yang was why the blue light had fled from him in terror.
“Is there something hidden within me?”
“Why would it be afraid?”
A sense of confusion washed over him.
His thoughts drifted to the crimson lightning that had pursued him relentlessly, trying to strike him down.
Reflecting on these strange occurrences, he felt an urgent need to uncover the truth behind the crimson lightning and what it had done to him.
Yet, no matter how much he pondered, he found no answers.
Realizing he couldn’t share this with anyone just yet, he decided to figure it out on his own.
His thoughts were interrupted by a joyful roar in the distance.
The Ironback Blue Bull had returned.
Zhang Yang examined it closely.
The bull had undergone subtle yet noticeable changes—its eyes gleamed with newfound depth, its exposed teeth had become incredibly sharp, resembling inverted swords, and faint patterns now traced the skin beneath its fur.
The most striking change, however, was its sheer strength—it now crushed everything in its path with ease.
Sensing the bull’s overwhelming joy, Zhang Yang couldn’t help but smile. He climbed onto its back and said, “Slow down. Let’s wait for Sister Yu. You should get used to your changes, too.”
The bull let out a deep “moo.”
Zhang Yang listened carefully and, to his amazement, thought he heard it say “good.”
His suspicions deepened—this giant elephant token’s power was truly extraordinary. But if it was so powerful, why did it fear his bloodline so much?
He couldn’t figure it out.
Deciding to stop overthinking, he let the Ironback Blue Bull move at a slow jog, taking in the scenery around him.
Before long, a sharp whistling sound cut through the air. Someone was approaching at high speed.
Following the sound, Zhang Yang spotted two figures rushing toward him.
They were among the group that had been fighting over the giant elephant token earlier.
Moving with astonishing speed, they arrived in the blink of an eye.
The first man sneered, “You’re the first to ever dare deceive Su Shentong!”
The second man, who introduced himself as Liu Changfeng, spoke coldly, “I’m curious—who gave you the courage to fool me?”
Liu Changfeng swiftly spun around and positioned himself in front of the Ironback Blue Bull, blocking its path.
Su Shentong followed closely behind, his voice icy as he said, “Hand over the giant elephant token.”
Zhang Yang wasn’t naive—he knew their swift pursuit meant they were formidable opponents. The pressure was immense, and since the giant elephant token was of no further use to him, he decided not to take any risks.
“Alright.”
He immediately took out the giant elephant token, preparing to toss it to Su Shentong.
“That’s mine!” Liu Changfeng suddenly shouted.
Zhang Yang glanced between Liu Changfeng and Su Shentong, feeling caught in an awkward situation. “There’s only one token. Who should I give it to?”
Su Shentong and Liu Changfeng exchanged a sharp look before speaking in unison.
“Give it to me!”
Both surged forward at the same time.
Zhang Yang blinked and then grinned. “How about this—whoever gives me a martial arts technique first, I’ll hand it over to them?”
Whoosh!
Su Shentong reacted instantly, pulling a book from his storage pouch and tossing it to Zhang Yang.
Delighted, Zhang Yang caught it in his left hand, ready to throw the token.
Liu Changfeng, not to be outdone, quickly threw a book as well.
Now holding both martial arts manuals, Zhang Yang scratched his head before casually tossing the giant elephant token. It spun through the air and lodged into a nearby tree.
“I’m not getting involved.”
Without another word, he squeezed his legs, urging the Ironback Blue Bull into a sprint.
This time, Su Shentong and Liu Changfeng confirmed that the token was indeed genuine, allowing them to momentarily relax.
Liu Changfeng smirked. “Brother Su, aren’t you going to chase after your martial arts manual?”
Su Shentong chuckled. “The technique I gave was the Giant Elephant Power. Without the ancient giant elephant bloodline from the token, it can’t be cultivated. If I retrieve the token and gain that bloodline, I’ll be able to practice it. I had that planned from the start. But Brother Liu, why aren’t you chasing after your technique? Surely, you wouldn’t just give it up for the token.”
Liu Changfeng laughed. “I gave the Demon Elephant Power, which also requires the ancient giant elephant bloodline. That fool thinks he’s gained something valuable—it’s truly laughable.”
Su Shentong’s expression turned amused. “It seems we’re of the same mind, Brother Liu.” He glanced at the token embedded in the tree before suggesting, “Let’s settle this fairly. The winner takes the token. What do you say?”
Liu Changfeng burst into laughter. “We’ve sparred many times before but always held back. Today, let’s go all out and see who’s stronger. Once we settle this, we can help Yun Liuhuo hunt the Night Stalker and claim our rewards.”
Their gazes locked for a moment before they lunged at each other.
The battle erupted, but their conversation hadn’t escaped Zhang Yang’s ears.
His hearing was sharp—it was impossible for him not to overhear.
Flipping through the two books, he quickly skimmed their contents. They detailed the Giant Elephant Power and Demon Elephant Power in great detail.
After a brief moment of contemplation, he suddenly clenched his fist and swung it at a nearby rock.
Boom!
The rock shattered into countless fragments.
Grabbing a fist-sized piece of rubble in his right hand, he squeezed—turning it to dust with ease.
He chuckled. “The Giant Elephant Power and Demon Elephant Power are surprisingly easy to learn. Who needs an ancient giant elephant bloodline?”
Then, an idea struck him.
“Wait… the ancient giant elephant bloodline? The Bull must have it. I wonder if it can learn martial arts techniques.”
Reaching out through the Blood Contract, he communicated his thoughts to the Ironback Blue Bull.
In response, the bull simply gave him a look of utter disdain.
