Chapter 35: The Item in the Flower Pot

It did not budge!

For Zhang Yang, this was simply unfathomable.

If he were outside the Vast Forest, encountering such things might not be surprising, given the level of power involved.

But here, in the Vast Forest, with his strength, he couldn’t even move it slightly. It was incomprehensible.

Shang Zhu regarded him with a clearly puzzled expression.

The two elders exchanged skeptical glances, openly doubting Zhang Yang’s claim of being able to destroy a sect single-handedly.

Zhang Yang felt helpless.

He had truly used his full strength.

He greatly desired the rewards from the Divine Forbidden Gate, but this situation left him somewhat frustrated.

“Something feels off,” Tang Zhuo muttered, his brow furrowed. “I have witnessed the Wolf King’s power. I’m certain he didn’t use even a tenth of his strength against Chen Mo, yet he effortlessly shattered Five Elements Control the Universe. It might be true that he couldn’t break this seal, but it’s impossible for there to be no reaction at all.”

Cang Wolf Power was the weakest power Zhang Yang possessed, accounting for far less than one-tenth of his full strength. However, he saw no reason to explain—it would be pointless.

Upon hearing Tang Zhuo’s reasoning, Shang Zhu and the three elders became less skeptical.

“If we join forces and the Wolf King strikes with all his might, yet there is no reaction at all,” Tang Zhuo continued, “Gate Master, could it be that we have misjudged this from the beginning? Could it be an Underworld Spirit Seal, and the extreme heat is merely a facade?”

At this, Shang Zhu quickly formed nineteen complex hand seals, casting a peculiar forbidden law and sending it into the flower pot.

Immediately, a booming sound echoed from within.

Layers of flames erupted outward, resembling a volcanic explosion.

Then, after a while, everything fell silent.

The pot now exuded an eerie, bone-chilling cold.

“Indeed, it is an Underworld Spirit Seal,” Tang Zhuo murmured.

Shang Zhu’s frown deepened.

After examining it further, the elders were unable to determine the exact nature of the seal. Finally, Tang Zhuo asked, “Gate Master, what kind of seal is this?”

“It’s an Underworld Spirit Forbidden Law,” Shang Zhu replied grimly.

The three elders shook their heads and sighed.

They had given up.

“An Underworld Spirit Forbidden Law? Is it related to souls?” Zhang Yang pondered, recalling his Soul Binding Power.

Tang Zhuo nodded. “Yes. This type of forbidden law is extremely rare. In the Divine Forbidden Gate, only the head of our main branch has the ability to break it; even some senior elders cannot.”

Seeing their expressions, Zhang Yang realized that they were deeply convinced that this type of forbidden law was insurmountable. They didn’t even consider trying.

Not just the elders, but even Gate Master Shang Zhu seemed resigned to its impossibility.

Shang Zhu waved his hand, signaling for the flower pot to be taken away. He then turned to Zhang Yang and said, “I apologize for the wasted trip, Wolf King. This was our oversight.”

His words made Zhang Yang reflect. Indeed, matters concerning the soul were the most difficult to resolve.

The soul was intangible and formless—something one could neither touch nor see, yet it undeniably existed.

He had just attacked with all his strength, yet it had been completely ineffective.

However, recalling his Soul Binding Power, he still wanted to give it another try.

“Gate Master, I would like to attempt it once more,” he said.

Shang Zhu raised an eyebrow. “Hasn’t the Wolf King already tried? Souls are immune to brute force.”

He considered for a moment before adding, “If breaking it required sheer strength, only a sage could accomplish such a feat. And even then, it would depend on the level of the one who used their life as the cost to cast the forbidden law. If it came from a Boundless Level cultivator, that would be an entirely different matter.”

He thought these words would dispel Zhang Yang’s intentions.

But Zhang Yang was not someone who gave up easily. He said, “I still want to try.”

Shang Zhu frowned slightly.

Tang Zhuo and the other two elders displayed impatience, even a hint of disdain. To them, it felt somewhat insulting that after they had already given up, Zhang Yang still insisted on proceeding.

“Are you a sage?” One elder could no longer contain himself. “Young man, don’t think that just because you became the Wolf King at a young age, you’re something special. Even in this Vast Forest, where all things are restricted, only a sage might have the strength to break it.”

Zhang Yang did not argue. Instead, he simply looked at Shang Zhu and Tang Zhuo, smiling silently.

Shang Zhu had nothing more to say.

Tang Zhuo, however, contemplated for a moment before saying, “Since the Wolf King knows it’s related to souls and still wants to try, he must have an unconventional method.”

Shang Zhu studied Zhang Yang once more and said, “Perhaps the Wolf King does have a special technique. In that case, the Underworld Spirit Forbidden Law is unlike any other. If the Wolf King can break it, the reward will be doubled. We won’t be able to offer another type of divine power, but how about three extra True Spirits of Wind?”

“Alright, let’s go with what the Gate Master decided.” Zhang Yang did not have complete confidence.

According to his Soul Binding Power, he was indeed exceptionally skilled in soul-related abilities.

Whether that held true could now be tested.

He took a deep breath, clenched his fists, and fully activated his Soul Binding Power, leaving not even the slightest trace behind. Then, he struck a heavy punch directly at the Underworld Spirit Forbidden Law above the pot.

Crack!

A crisp, pleasant sound echoed.

The Underworld Spirit Forbidden Law offered no resistance against Zhang Yang’s Soul Binding Power—it shattered instantly.

The crowd’s reactions ranged from wild joy to utter shock, but their voices were soon drowned out by an indescribable surge of life essence.

This far exceeded the effect of a single drop of sacred life water.

The rich essence spread instantly, filling the small palace with a thick, white mist. Even Ling Yue and Xu Li, the Snow Guards standing by the door without stepping inside, were enveloped by it.

As the life essence seeped into their bodies, it became a baptism of life—a complete transformation.

Shang Zhu, Tang Zhuo, the two elders, Ling Yue, and Xu Li all experienced an overwhelming sensation, as if they had just taken a refreshing cold bath, their bodies drenched in sweat. The feeling was beyond words.

Only Zhang Yang… felt nothing.

At that moment, his storage bag trembled violently.

Chi Zhenyi?

Without needing to open it, Zhang Yang could sense the Chi Zhenyi spirit within the Skyfire Pill Furnace absorbing the life essence at an astonishing rate. In an instant, half of it was drawn away, further unlocking the furnace’s mysteries.

Even so, the others continued to emit popping sounds throughout their bodies, like beans bursting in rapid succession.

It was a transformation of a major level—inside and out.

Watching them celebrate with unrestrained joy, Zhang Yang felt speechless. He had absorbed a portion, yet aside from a comfortable sensation, there was no other change at all.

It was just like when he consumed over a hundred Blood Spirit Flowers—exactly the same.

All he could do was wait, silently observing their excitement while also turning his attention to the flower pot’s contents.

The soil inside was light red—clearly something extraordinary.

At the center lay a thumb-sized seed, radiating a soft glow.

All the life essence had been released from this seed.

Zhang Yang examined it closely, noticing that its surface displayed the rotation of the sun, moon, and stars, as if it contained profound celestial principles.

Even with his extraordinary insight, he could not see through its mysteries.

At that moment, Shang Zhu let out a satisfied groan, his body twisting slightly. Then, with a loud crack, he opened his eyes, now gleaming with brilliance. Instantly alert, he pressed his right hand forward.

Beams of light surged from his palm, enveloping the flower pot to prevent any more life essence from escaping.

“Wolf King, feel free to use this. It doesn’t count as part of your reward,” Shang Zhu said.

Zhang Yang shrugged and replied, “It’s useless to me.”

Shang Zhu smiled, unconvinced. He assumed Zhang Yang had absorbed enough and completed his transformation. After all, in his eyes, Zhang Yang’s level was still low—he wouldn’t have been able to absorb much more.
