Chapter 33: Astonishing! Astonishing!
When Zhang Yang took out the items he had seized from the Nine Yin Sect, the Howling Wolf Palace fell into complete silence.
The Nine Yin Sect had been so wealthy that even the Howling Wolf Palace—one of the dominant forces in the Vast Forest—was amazed.
Eventually, Li Kunhai sighed. “The overall strength of the Nine Yin Sect isn’t impressive outside, but here in the Vast Forest, no one dares to provoke them. They are treacherous and often raid treasure seekers. I never expected that, in just ten years, they had accumulated such an astonishing fortune.”
“Wolf King, how should we distribute it?”
Zhang Yang glanced at Li Kunhai, then at Yuluan, before saying, “You two can discuss the distribution.”
Yuluan understood that Zhang Yang wasn’t interested in such matters, so she took charge and began discussing with Li Kunhai.
After careful deliberation, they decided to distribute the loot based on each person’s contributions.
Since everyone had played a role in this venture, fair rewards were necessary.
Additionally, the Blood Spirit Flowers were reserved for the Snow Guards and the Wolf King Guard Squad.
Some members of the Wolf King Guard Squad had previously traded with Zhang Yang for sacred life water but hadn’t received enough. Now, they were given more to further enhance their strength.
Finally, Yuluan and Li Kunhai agreed to set aside certain items specifically for Zhang Yang, enriching his storage bag for future needs.
Among them were three full bottles of sacred life water from Cang Wolf Palace, each containing over a hundred drops.
Zhang Yang’s Interest in the Guardian Pillar
Once the distribution was settled, Zhang Yang turned his focus to the Guardian Pillar.
His battles against the ancient hundred-meter-tall phoenix trees and the ten-meter-tall stone tablets had completely transformed his understanding of combat.
What spiritual weapon? What boundless artifact?
They were all secondary.
What truly mattered were big, heavy weapons—only then did fighting feel satisfying and exhilarating!
Li Kunhai noticed his interest and asked, “Wolf King, are you interested in the Guardian Pillar?”
Zhang Yang nodded. “During this battle, I gained significant insights. Bigger and heavier weapons suit me better. The Wolf King Spear is too light—it’s not interesting. This Guardian Pillar is somewhat average in size and weight. Is there something better?”
Li Kunhai pondered for a moment before replying, “There actually is one.”
Zhang Yang’s eyes lit up. “Oh?”
“Wolf King, follow me.”
The Thousand Wolves Pillar
Li Kunhai led Zhang Yang deeper into Cang Wolf Palace as they chatted along the way.
Eventually, they arrived at the largest and most secluded palace within the grounds.
This palace appeared rarely visited, its surroundings eerily deserted.
Li Kunhai pushed open the heavy doors.
Inside, various items were scattered in disarray.
At the far end, buried beneath layers of dust, stood an enormous cylindrical stone pillar—ten meters long and one meter in diameter.
Li Kunhai waved his hand, sending a gust of wind that cleared away the dust, revealing its true form.
It was a white stone pillar, intricately carved with the image of a howling divine wolf.
Zhang Yang’s sharp gaze immediately noticed the details—every inch of the massive wolf carving was composed of thousands of smaller wolves, each sculpted with exquisite craftsmanship.
“There must be over a thousand miniature wolves forming the larger divine wolf,” he mused.
The divine wolf looked incredibly lifelike.
Its eyes, teeth, claws, and fur were meticulously detailed, flawless in every aspect.
Li Kunhai explained, “This is the Thousand Wolves Pillar. It is indeed formed from the imagery of thousands of wolves and weighs fifty thousand pounds. Its secrets are unknown, as the specifics have been lost to time. The first three generations of palace masters attempted to unlock its mysteries but gained nothing, so it was left here.”
Zhang Yang stepped forward and firmly grasped the Thousand Wolves Pillar.
Activating his six divine powers, he lifted the massive pillar out of the palace and hoisted it overhead with ease.
The weight felt perfect.
This was exactly the kind of weapon he needed.
He immediately began swinging it around, feeling exhilarated.
Li Kunhai stared in amazement. Such a combat weapon was probably only favored by this new Wolf King.
He had never heard of anyone other than the giant tribes enjoying battle with such massive weapons.
An 1.8-meter-tall man wielding a stone pillar nearly four stories high—just imagining it was enough to make one feel that this person was a madman!
“Ahem, the Wolf King swinging the pillar, a thousand wolves howling at the sky—stunning! Astonishing!” Li Kunhai shouted, though his tone shifted midway.
Snowfall Palace
This was the palace where Xue Feishuang resided, now renamed.
Inside, Yuluan faced Xue Feishuang with a troubled expression.
“Do you really think you can hide your thoughts from me?” Xue Feishuang asked with a smile. “Luan’er, don’t try to fool me. Just because my junior brother fears you like a mouse fears a cat doesn’t mean you can lie to me.”
Yuluan sighed. “How about we stop being assassins?”
Xue Feishuang replied lightly, “Do you think I’m just some decorative vase, content to sit back and reap the rewards?”
Yuluan shook her head.
She knew very well how determined this former general was. Although Xue Feishuang appeared gentle on the surface, she possessed an extreme drive to prove herself—to show that women could stand alongside men as equals.
Now, due to the Green Sparrow Palace, she couldn’t act directly, but it was impossible for her to simply sit idly by.
“My life was saved by my junior brother. I have no other thoughts now except to stand by his side, in life or death. If he dies, I die; if he lives, I live,” Xue Feishuang said, warmth in her eyes. “Since we cannot walk in the light together, I will be his shadow.”
Yuluan pouted. “If you miss a man, just say so. Why phrase it in such a dramatic way?”
Xue Feishuang’s face immediately flushed. She glared. “Are you looking for a fight?”
Yuluan yelped and quickly darted to the side.
The way Zhang Yang feared Yuluan like a mouse feared a cat was exactly how Yuluan feared Xue Feishuang.
“Here, this is a remarkable assassination technique that your junior brother found after wiping out the Nine Yin Sect. He retrieved it from their martial arts pavilion—the Boundless Shadow Technique,” Yuluan said, finally taking out a slightly tattered book with yellowed pages.
Xue Feishuang’s eyes lit up as she reached for the book. Flipping through it quickly, she exclaimed with delight, “The Boundless Shadow Technique! This is one of the top three assassination techniques of Hell, the strongest killer organization in the Southern Region!”
Yuluan pouted. “Someone of high status from Hell must have come to the Vast Forest and ended up being killed by the ruthless Nine Yin Sect—only for the Nine Yin Sect to be wiped out by even greater monsters.”
“I want to train,” Xue Feishuang said resolutely.
“Sister, General, this training is worse than death! Just look at the torment described inside!” Yuluan exclaimed.
Xue Feishuang replied firmly, “I can either be a vase or be his shadow. I choose the latter.” She added, “By the way, you mustn’t tell him. Just you knowing is enough.”
Yuluan sighed. “Such love madness.”
Days of Growth
In the following days, everyone in Howling Wolf Palace, including the beasts, entered a state of intense cultivation and growth.
Everyone gained something, which significantly contributed to their improvement.
During this time, Zhang Yang tried to find Xue Feishuang but was rudely interrupted by Yuluan. He felt puzzled but truly feared this fierce “mother tiger.”
“Your sister is in seclusion. She hasn’t called for you, so don’t disturb her. Understood?” Yuluan said angrily, hands on her hips. “You heartless man, only thinking about your sister and not caring about me at all.”
Zhang Yang retorted, “Caring about you? You just hit me!”
“Are you asking for another beating?” Yuluan threatened playfully.
Zhang Yang immediately slipped away.
Yuluan couldn’t help but smile. She knew Zhang Yang wasn’t truly afraid of her—it was a different kind of “fear.”
For three consecutive days, Zhang Yang practiced, absorbing the wind, but the results were minimal.
The dense forest made it difficult for the wind to pass through.
Then, one day, someone came seeking his help.
The visitor introduced himself as Tang Zhuo from the Divine Forbidden Gate of the Vast Forest.
Tang Zhuo’s words piqued Zhang Yang’s interest. He said, “If the Wolf King can help us break a restriction, we are willing to offer powerful martial arts techniques and a True Spirit of Wind as thanks.”
