Chapter 30: Fierce

Now that Zhang Yang had reached the fifth level of the Returning to Origin realm, combined with six bursts of divine power, the strength he wielded was immense.

Even though the Wolf King Spear had fallen from the rank of a holy weapon to that of a spiritual weapon, it was still known as the strongest among spiritual weapons.

Its sharpness remained unparalleled.

As Zhang Yang, consumed by rage, hurled the spear, it tore through the void, its tip slicing the air as if cutting through silk.

Jin Yuguan had long been aware of Zhang Yang’s monstrous battle prowess and was prepared. With a swift motion, he summoned a massive shield, over a meter tall, to block the attack.

The shield was half a meter thick and a high-grade spiritual weapon.

Empowered by his strength, it glowed with a green light, radiating an astonishing level of defense.

Bang!

Slash!

The two sounds rang out almost simultaneously.

The giant shield, which Jin Yuguan had placed great faith in, was pierced clean through by the Wolf King Spear. The cold, gleaming spear tip shot forward, aiming straight for Jin Yuguan’s face.

Startled, he instinctively gripped the shield tighter, but the force behind the spear was terrifying. It was a power far beyond anything Jin Yuguan had ever encountered in the Returning to Origin realm—perhaps even a warrior at the Touching Heaven realm would struggle to exert such might.

The sheer impact sent him flying off his golden warhorse, crashing into the soldiers behind him. He was hurled over thirty meters before finally slamming into the ground.

In the process, he lost his grip on the shield. The giant shield, still impaled by the Wolf King Spear, soared through the air before landing with a heavy thud.

He could only be thankful that the giant shield still held, at least preventing the Wolf King Spear from advancing any further.

“Kill!”

Zhang Yang had gone mad. He abandoned the Ironback Blue Bull entirely and stepped forward.

One Step of Mountains and Rivers!

In a single step, he crossed over the Demon Slayer Team members and charged straight toward Jin Yuguan.

“Kill! Slaughter them all to avenge my fallen brothers!” Yuluan’s eyes turned red with fury.

The seventy-one Snow Guards went berserk.

Three hundred golden apes!

Five hundred wolf cavalry from the Wolf King Guard Squad!

Along with the Night Stalkers and the Ironback Blue Bull, they surged forward in a frenzy.

When men are driven to madness, their killing power knows no limits—especially after witnessing their commander being slain. Chaos erupted instantly.

Zhang Yang ignored the surrounding bloodshed. He had only one goal: to kill Jin Yuguan.

Jin Yuguan scrambled to his feet and ran.

After taking that devastating hit, he abandoned all thoughts of fighting Zhang Yang.

He ran as fast as he could.

Zhang Yang grabbed the Wolf King Spear, completely unfazed by the massive shield still attached to it. To him, it was as light as a feather. It made no difference. He continued his relentless pursuit of Jin Yuguan.

Jin Yuguan was fast. As the supreme leader of the Golden Guards, his strength was significant. Bai Teng, whom Zhang Yang had killed before, had merely been his deputy. Jin Yuguan was on a different level—strong, skilled, and highly adept at movement techniques. But compared to Zhang Yang’s One Step of Mountains and Rivers, it was like a mere flicker of light against the blazing sun.

In just two or three steps, Zhang Yang caught up to him.

He raised the Wolf King Spear, preparing to smash Jin Yuguan with the giant shield.

But suddenly, a loud explosion erupted from the ground.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Four beams of golden light streaked through the air.

Four golden ropes shot out, unexpectedly binding Zhang Yang’s hands and feet.

Jin Yuguan seized the opportunity and charged forward, shouting frantically, “Shoot! Shoot! Shoot! Shoot!”

His commands came in a frenzy.

Archers poured in from all directions, their bows drawn, all aiming at Zhang Yang.

The sound of arrows slicing through the air filled the battlefield.

The twang of bowstrings echoed in unison.

But four sounds were even louder.

Zhang Yang, having discarded the Wolf King Spear, dashed forward.

Snap! Snap! Snap! Snap!

The four golden ropes shattered instantly.

Zhang Yang was now at the fifth level of the Returning to Origin realm, possessing six divine powers.

The last time he had been restrained, he had only been at Level Three, with five divine powers.

There was no comparison.

With a single step, he vanished.

A torrential rain of arrows descended, covering the area, yet not a single one struck him.

Some expert archers locked onto Zhang Yang’s movement and immediately loosed their arrows.

The rest of the archers quickly followed suit.

Seeing countless arrows flying toward him, Zhang Yang grew furious. Even though One Step of Mountains and Rivers was fast, he still found it too slow.

Spotting a massive ancient phoenix tree, its trunk over a meter thick, he grabbed it with both hands and yanked it from the ground.

Boom!

The hundred-meter-high ancient tree was uprooted with sheer brute force.

He swung it like a weapon, unleashing a devastating strike.

The tree was immensely sturdy, its branches thick and lush. Under the power of Zhang Yang’s six divine bursts, its range of destruction was immense.

It didn’t matter if there were other ancient phoenix trees nearby—they were snapped in half as well.

The archers could no longer even see Zhang Yang.

What followed were screams of horror.

It was impossible to count how many people had been swept away.

With Zhang Yang’s overwhelming strength and the sheer fury behind his attack, no one could escape.

In an instant, three to five hundred soldiers collapsed to the ground.

Zhang Yang roared in exhilaration, wielding the hundred-meter ancient tree, creating a scene of utter devastation.

Of course, many experts in the Demon Slayer Team desperately tried to cut off branches and hack away at the ancient tree, but they paid a steep price for their efforts. Those who were struck faced the deadly fate of being crushed to death.

By the time the hundred-meter tree had been reduced to about ten meters, Yuluan, the Night Stalker, Lang Xiaotian, Li Yuheng, and others had arrived.

Zhang Yang tossed aside the ancient tree, seized the Wolf King Spear, and resumed his pursuit of Jin Yuguan.

From start to finish, his eyes remained locked on his target.

Jin Yuguan hid in the shadows, hoping to launch a surprise attack, but he never found the right opportunity.

The moment Zhang Yang released his grip on the tree, Jin Yuguan turned and ran, lacking the courage to gather his strength for a counterattack. To him, Zhang Yang was less like a man and more like an unstoppable force. He knew that, against Zhang Yang, he would be nothing more than a helpless lamb, easily crushed with a single strike.

“Run? Do you really think you can escape?” Zhang Yang growled, his hostility erupting once more.

Jin Yuguan gritted his teeth and sprinted in a desperate bid for survival.

If he could just escape the Vast Forest, he would have the chance to regroup and defeat Zhang Yang.

But Zhang Yang had no intention of giving him that chance.

Originally planning to throw his spear again, Zhang Yang caught sight of the giant shield embedded in the ground. Without hesitation, he swung the Wolf King Spear, launching the shield directly at Jin Yuguan.

Hearing the rushing sound behind him, Jin Yuguan glanced back and quickly dodged in fright.

Crash! Crash!

The giant shield tore through two ancient phoenix trees in succession.

Though it missed Jin Yuguan, one of the falling trees struck him, sending him sprawling to the ground, blood spewing from his mouth.

Zhang Yang lunged forward, Wolf King Spear in hand, ready to finish him off.

Just then, two figures appeared out of nowhere. One of them grabbed Jin Yuguan by the arm and sprinted deeper into the forest.

Zhang Yang’s fury soared.

The two figures wore strange white garments resembling mourning robes, and their running posture was unnatural, as if their legs couldn’t bend.

“Leave him behind, or don’t blame me for being merciless!” Zhang Yang roared.

The pair ignored him and continued dragging Jin Yuguan away at full speed.

Zhang Yang’s rage boiled over. He fully activated One Step of Mountains and Rivers.

Jin Yuguan had orchestrated the massacre of twenty-nine Snow Guards and their families—over a hundred lives lost in cold blood. That debt had to be repaid in full.

Just as Zhang Yang reached the spot where Jin Yuguan had fallen, a sword shot out from behind one of the toppled ancient phoenix trees like a streak of lightning.

The attacker looked identical to the person who had just rescued Jin Yuguan.

The strike was impossibly fast, and the sword radiated an eerie, sinister aura—it was a calculated ambush.

In that split second, the swordsman locked eyes with Zhang Yang, his gaze cold and emotionless.

A sharp pain exploded in the swordsman’s chest.

Looking down, he saw the Wolf King Spear piercing through his heart, driven clean through his body.

When he lifted his gaze once more, Zhang Yang had already vanished, continuing his pursuit of Jin Yuguan.

As darkness consumed him and his body crumpled to the ground, the swordsman’s final thought was one of pure terror.

“Oh no… we’ve provoked a monster.”
