Chapter 25: Wolf God Mountain, Spiritual Weapon Cave
Sometimes, when people make a choice, they may initially do so just to escape their current difficulties, but they soon find themselves unable to turn back—just like the Night Stalker.
He never imagined that offending Sheni, the tenth-ranked Martial Lord among the seventy-two lords, would lead him into a battle for the title. And so, he walked the path that brought him to this moment.
"Do you regret it?" Zhang Yang asked.
The Night Stalker felt a hundred emotions welling up inside him, but in the end, he only sighed. "Life is always so unpredictable, isn’t it?"
"Yes, unpredictable," Zhang Yang murmured, recalling his own experiences. If not for that flash of crimson lightning, how could he have obtained such an extraordinary fate? Perhaps he would have lived an ordinary, uneventful life.
He buried the bodies of Yun Liuhuo, Chu Yuming, and the others, taking their storage bags. Some items were distributed to the Night Stalker, Ironback Blue Bull, Golden Ape King, and the others.
As for their journey to Howling Wolf Palace, Zhang Yang had spoken to Ironback Blue Bull, who had then translated for the Golden Ape King.
The Golden Ape King grinned broadly and nodded repeatedly. He didn’t fully understand the details of the imperial sacred lands beyond the Vast Forest; all he knew was that following Zhang Yang meant good food and drink.
First, there were the Blood Spirit Flowers, and then the treasures from the storage bags—everything was incredible.
And so, the entire group, along with their beasts, made their way toward Howling Wolf Palace.
When Li Kunhai, the Palace Master of Howling Wolf Palace, learned of everything that had transpired, he personally arranged a separate courtyard for the Golden Ape King, allowing them to settle in as they pleased.
However, when he heard that Zhang Yang had shattered the Great Xia Martial Lord Seal, both he and Xue Feishuang were utterly stunned.
They knew all too well what the destruction of the Great Xia Martial Lord Seal meant.
"In the coming days, there will undoubtedly be fierce battles," Li Kunhai said, deep in thought. "We must strengthen our forces. The Grand Respected should have weapons—ones powerful enough that, even without divine powers, sheer force alone could rival them."
Zhang Yang nodded in agreement.
Li Kunhai then added, "Wolf God Mountain has a spiritual weapon cave containing many such weapons. The Grand Respected can select those that suit him best."
"Wolf God Mountain?" Xue Feishuang asked, puzzled. "Isn’t Wolf God Mountain the most mysterious place in Howling Wolf Palace? Wasn’t it originally in the southwest of the Southern Region, where the palace once stood?"
Li Kunhai replied, "Years ago, to align with the Cangmang Sacred Land, the previous palace master used supreme divine powers to move Wolf God Mountain here. The one left outside is merely a fake."
Zhang Yang raised an eyebrow at this revelation.
So it was true—when martial arts reached a certain level, moving mountains and filling seas was not just legend but reality.
And if Howling Wolf Palace had never produced a sage, just how powerful could a true sage be?
What about an immortal—one who had never appeared before?
Zhang Yang’s thirst for martial arts grew stronger.
He wanted to become a sage.
He wanted to achieve immortality.
Li Kunhai personally led everyone toward Wolf God Mountain.
Xue Feishuang, however, chose not to go. She deliberately avoided appearing in public, hoping to keep her survival a secret and prevent the Demon Slayer Team from targeting Green Sparrow Palace again.
During the journey, Zhang Yang noticed a group of five hundred wolf cavalry following closely behind.
"This is the Grand Respected Guard Squad," Li Kunhai explained. "After discussions with the four elders, we established this unit. All five hundred members are in the Touching Heaven realm. The strongest among them are the squad leader, Lang Xiaotian, and the deputy leader, Li Yuheng. Both are at Level Nine of the Touching Heaven realm, with formidable combat strength."
Lang Xiaotian and Li Yuheng led the five hundred men in a formal salute to Zhang Yang.
"Greetings, Grand Respected!"
Zhang Yang did not refuse their salute.
In the battles within the Vast Forest, he had no intention of allowing those above the Ascending to Heaven realm to participate. Losing experts of such high caliber would be too great a loss.
The Vast Forest suppressed all high-level cultivators to the Returning to Origin realm, meaning even those near the sage level—such as Great Boundless-ranked experts—were no exception. Losing them would be a devastating waste.
Therefore, he intended to organize a force primarily composed of warriors in the Touching Heaven realm. This way, they could operate at the full power of Level Six in the Returning to Origin realm, fully prepared for the imminent battle against the Demon Slayer Team.
As they traveled, Zhang Yang engaged in deep discussions with Lang Xiaotian and Li Yuheng. Through their conversations, he discovered that Li Yuheng was the son of Palace Master Li Kunhai, while Lang Xiaotian was the son of the Grand Elder Lang Yaozu.
Further discussions revealed something even more significant—Lang Xiaotian’s great-grandfather was none other than the palace master who had once aspired to greatness alongside the Cangmang Sacred Land. He had been the most powerful expert in the history of Howling Wolf Palace, nearly reaching the sage level within the Great Boundless ranks.
Young warriors found it easy to connect with one another. There was nothing they couldn’t talk about, and their conversation grew lively and engaging.
Meanwhile, Ironback Blue Bull let out low growls, seemingly communicating with a group of wolves. Though their discussion remained unclear, they appeared to understand one another.
Before long, they arrived at the foot of a towering mountain.
The peak stretched high into the clouds.
According to Li Kunhai, in order to avoid detection, Wolf God Mountain had been cut in half, with only the top portion moved here.
There were no guards stationed at this place because the entire mountain was protected by powerful prohibitions. Even Li Kunhai, a formidable expert of the Great Boundless rank, was unable to ascend the mountain.
Upon reaching the foot of the mountain, Li Kunhai performed a unique secret technique of the Howling Wolf Palace, opening a hidden cave.
The cave was dark and unremarkable, showing no signs of anything special.
Li Kunhai introduced it, saying, "This is the Spiritual Weapon Cave. It holds dozens of spiritual weapons, all of exceptional quality, each with the potential to evolve into a boundless artifact. However, the cave is protected by prohibitions that exert pressure based on a person’s realm. Due to the Vast Forest’s suppressive effect, if I were to enter, I would experience pressure at the level of a Rank Six Returning to Origin cultivator."
"Moreover, retrieving a spiritual weapon from within triggers an additional tenfold increase in pressure due to the prohibitions, making it extremely difficult to take even a single weapon."
He then looked at Zhang Yang and said, "The Grand Respected practices martial arts techniques related to divine power, so he should be capable of retrieving a spiritual weapon."
The Grand Elder nodded in agreement.
Li Kunhai smiled and continued, "Back when I competed with the Grand Elder for the position of palace master, the outcome was uncertain. In the end, the newly appointed palace master allowed us both to enter the Spiritual Weapon Cave to select weapons. Whoever emerged faster would become the palace master. I was just a bit quicker than the Grand Elder."
Grand Elder Lang Yaozu waved his hand dismissively. "In truth, if not for the palace master’s assistance, I would have struggled to retrieve a spiritual weapon. My approach was too light, lacking the necessary resistance. When I competed with the palace master, it was merely a friendly contest. Honestly, I wasn’t as capable as he was."
This only reinforced how challenging the Spiritual Weapon Cave truly was.
Zhang Yang dared not be careless.
"I’ll give it a try," he said.
Taking a deep breath, he stepped into the cave.
As Zhang Yang’s figure gradually disappeared into the darkness, Li Kunhai murmured, "With the Grand Respected’s combat strength, retrieving a spiritual weapon shouldn’t be too difficult."
Lang Yaozu added, "I hope he can bring out several."
Li Kunhai shook his head. "That would be far too difficult."
Lang Yaozu sighed, fully aware of the immense challenge ahead.
Behind them, the five hundred members of the Grand Respected Guard Squad watched eagerly.
As disciples of the Howling Wolf Palace—especially Lang Xiaotian and Li Yuheng, who were considered top candidates for the next palace master and Grand Elder—they had all attempted to enter the Spiritual Weapon Cave before. However, every one of them had failed.
Outside, anticipation and concern filled the air.
Inside the cave, Zhang Yang felt a slight sense of unease. As he moved forward, he immediately noticed the immense pressure. It felt like a small mountain pressing down on him, yet it was not overwhelming enough to force him to use divine power to resist.
As he progressed, he quickened his pace. First, he began jogging, then sprinting, and finally, he dashed at full speed toward the depths of the Spiritual Weapon Cave.
