Chapter 21: Resurrection
Everyone at the Howling Wolf Palace was well aware of the significance of the Guardian Pillar. Thus, seeing Zhang Yang treat it like a mere toy, using it so freely, deeply shocked them.
Even Li Kunhai stared in disbelief for a while before regaining his composure as Zhang Yang carried Xue Feishuang over. He looked at Zhang Yang with a somewhat peculiar gaze but chose not to comment.
"Little brother, follow me," he said.
Li Kunhai’s attitude had subtly shifted.
Zhang Yang’s mind was solely focused on saving Xue Feishuang, never once considering any potential dangers.
Of course, in the face of his fists, what could possibly be considered dangerous?
Li Kunhai led him to a small palace and instructed him to wait. After a short while, he returned with a small porcelain vial containing a single drop of sacred life water.
Though Zhang Yang didn’t recognize it, the rich life aura emanating from it allowed him to make an informed judgment.
"Thank you, Palace Master. Please accept these," he said, offering all the Blood Spirit Flowers.
Li Kunhai hesitated before responding, "Actually, you don’t need to give so much."
Zhang Yang insisted, "No, to me, anything that can save my sister is priceless!"
Li Kunhai nodded, said nothing more, accepted the Blood Spirit Flowers, and left the room.
With the palace doors now shut, Zhang Yang finally had the space he needed to save Xue Feishuang.
He carefully laid her down, ensuring she was positioned properly.
Taking out the Skyfire Pill Furnace, he had Chi Zhenyi’s soul verify the sacred life water. Once confirmed, he administered it to Xue Feishuang.
Then, he waited anxiously.
In Zhang Yang’s memory, this was possibly the most nerve-wracking moment of his life.
He felt restless, unable to sit or stand still. He even worried that his hearing or vision might fail him, leading to a misjudgment.
All of this seemed amusing to Chi Zhenyi, who believed Zhang Yang’s concern had clouded his usual composure.
This boy, usually so indifferent to himself, was now so deeply worried about this woman.
Shaking his head with a smile, Chi Zhenyi returned to the Skyfire Pill Furnace.
A quarter of an hour later, Zhang Yang heard Xue Feishuang’s heartbeat growing stronger, noticeably regaining its rhythm.
He placed his fingers on her pulse and discovered that the residual pill energy, combined with the sacred life water, had successfully restored it.
At last, he was certain—Xue Feishuang was going to be fine. She would fully recover.
Excitement surged through him as he gently lifted Xue Feishuang in his arms, his gaze fixed solely on her, undistracted.
After an unknown amount of time, Xue Feishuang’s eyelids fluttered before she slowly opened her eyes.
"Am I dead?" she asked softly.
"Sister," Zhang Yang choked out.
As her vision cleared and she took in the face before her, sorrow suddenly overwhelmed her. "Junior Brother, have you also been killed by them?"
Zhang Yang’s eyes reddened as he forced a smile. "I couldn’t bear to leave my sister all alone underground, so I came to keep you company."
Tears immediately welled up in Xue Feishuang’s eyes. But then, a sudden realization struck her.
"Silly Junior Brother, you… huh? If I’m dead, how can I still cry?"
She abruptly sat up, her eyes wide with confusion.
Zhang Yang looked at her with a smile.
In that moment, Xue Feishuang understood. With a mix of relief and exasperation, she lightly punched Zhang Yang’s chest.
"You little rascal, how dare you trick me!"
"Sister!" Zhang Yang called out as he pulled her into a tight embrace.
Xue Feishuang hugged him back with all her strength.
They laughed and cried together.
Just then, the palace doors opened.
Zhang Yang and Xue Feishuang stepped out, hand in hand, their faces still marked by tears.
Outside, the Palace Master of the Howling Wolf Palace, Li Kunhai, had arrived after receiving reports and came to meet them.
Xue Feishuang was the first to offer her gratitude.
Li Kunhai simply smiled and waved a hand dismissively. "No need."
Then, he turned to Zhang Yang. "What are your plans next, little brother?"
He had already arranged for someone to investigate their earlier experiences.
"Revenge," Zhang Yang declared, his expression fierce.
He wanted to kill every single member of the Demon Slayer Team.
Yun Liuhuo—he wanted him dead.
And the Seventh Prince, Mu Shaoyang—he wanted him dead even more.
As thoughts of these people filled his mind, he realized his strength was still lacking. The Seventh Prince commanded the vast influence of Green Sparrow Palace, and Zhang Yang knew he couldn’t afford to be reckless. Even if he had to fight alone, he would confront them to the end. However, he first needed to raise his strength to the highest level allowed within the Vast Forest to stand a chance.
"Do you know where I can find fire, Palace Master? I’d like to break through a minor realm before taking action," Zhang Yang asked, uncertain whether a large number of Demon Slayer Team members were already on their way. Strengthening himself was crucial.
Li Kunhai looked at him in confusion. "Fire? Breakthrough? Aren’t you already at Level Six of the Returning to Origin Realm?"
Zhang Yang shook his head. "No, I’m currently only at Level Three of the Returning to Origin Realm."
Li Kunhai’s lips twitched slightly. "Our Howling Wolf Palace has a Pill Hall, a place specifically for alchemists to refine pills. We draw fire from underground—it will be more than sufficient. Follow me."
He led them to the Pill Hall.
Inside, a dozen alchemists worked around several pill furnaces, with underground flames roaring beneath them.
At Li Kunhai’s signal, the alchemists promptly left the room.
"Thank you, Palace Master," Zhang Yang said as he stepped into the Pill Hall to begin his cultivation.
Xue Feishuang remained outside to stand guard for him.
Li Kunhai personally closed the doors, which made the alchemists anxious, as their healing pills were still inside.
"Go and summon all four elders," Li Kunhai ordered.
One of the alchemists quickly ran off to deliver the message.
Before long, the four elders of the Howling Wolf Palace arrived, and Li Kunhai gathered with them, speaking in hushed tones.
Meanwhile, inside the Pill Hall, Zhang Yang had already entered a deep state of cultivation.
He had a strong premonition that the number of enemies arriving in the Vast Forest would be greater, and their strength far more formidable. He had to seize every opportunity to grow stronger.
With that in mind, he immersed himself fully in training.
The intense fire energy within the hall surged toward Zhang Yang, as if seeking an escape. It flowed through his pores and into his body, gathering in his dantian and merging with his vital energy.
His vital energy began to boil violently.
As more fire energy poured in, his vital energy erupted, infused with the intense characteristics of fire. Flames crackled within him, accompanied by faint thunderous roars.
This was the process of breaking through.
After a series of thunderous booms, Zhang Yang opened his eyes.
He had finally made progress.
He had reached Level Four of the Returning to Origin Realm!
With this breakthrough, his power had doubled. He could feel the difference clearly.
If he encountered those golden ropes again, he was certain he could break them effortlessly.
"Phew…"
"The feeling of a breakthrough is truly wonderful."
As Zhang Yang stretched, his gaze fell on Xue Feishuang’s lovely face. She looked both angry and joyful at the same time.
Since her revival, her expressions toward Zhang Yang had softened. She no longer carried the icy demeanor of a battlefield-hardened general.
She pulled him to his feet, and together, they walked out of the Pill Hall.
Outside, Li Kunhai and the four elders stood waiting with smiles.
"You broke through?" Li Kunhai asked.
Zhang Yang nodded. "Yes. I also want to thank the Palace Master for providing this place for cultivation."
Li Kunhai chuckled. "Of course. It was only right. Just now, I discussed with the four elders, and we unanimously agreed that anyone capable of retrieving the Guardian Pillar—outsider or not—deserves to be a respected member of the Howling Wolf Palace."
The four elders nodded in agreement.
Zhang Yang hesitated. Hadn’t they previously said that outsiders were unsuitable?
Xue Feishuang smiled knowingly. She understood that Zhang Yang’s overwhelming strength and unique talent had moved the Howling Wolf Palace enough to break their tradition.
