Chapter 70: Sugar-Coated Extras (3): Title
During a girls’ dinner gathering, Wei Yao mentioned Pei Hao with starry-eyed delight:
"Yutian, Pei Hao told me he liked me even before his debut! He’s rewatched all my works multiple times."
Returning home, Song Yutian asked Zhong Yueli, "Yueli, when did you first feel drawn to me?"
Zhong Yueli chuckled softly. "After all this time together, you’re only asking now?"
Song Yutian arched a brow. "What? If I ask late, does that mean you won’t tell me?"
He shook his head with a faint smile. "I’ll tell you."
"Much better," she replied, satisfied.
"Do you remember the childhood memories episode we filmed?" Zhong Yueli asked. "The segment where we guessed each other’s childhood photos?"
Song Yutian’s eyes widened slightly. "Don’t tell me it was when Gong Yu said you looked too delicate — like a girl, and I defended you? That’s when you felt something?"
Zhong Yueli met her gaze. "Is that unacceptable?"
"It’s acceptable, but…" She frowned. "Seems too simplistic. Are you lying?"
"Of course not," he insisted.
At her skeptical expression, he relented. "Fine. The moment itself is true, but there’s more to it."
Song Yutian gave him a knowing look.
"Promise not to laugh," he warned after a pause.
Her curiosity deepened. Raising two fingers solemnly, she vowed, "I won’t."
Zhong Yueli spoke slowly. "Before my birth, my mother was certain she’d have a daughter. She’d already chosen the name Zhong Yueli—‘Yue’ for moon, ‘Li’ for glaze, her two favorite things."
"When I was born… the complications left her unable to bear more children. She kept the name’s pronunciation but changed the characters. Yet she still dressed me as a girl throughout childhood."
"Kindergarten was tolerable. But in early elementary school, my appearance and clothes made me a target. No one ever defended me."
His voice softened. "When you stood up for me without hesitation that day, it felt like… something struck my heart. That’s when I first recognized this feeling."
After this conversation, Zhong Yueli noticed that Song Yutian had begun pronouncing his name with a peculiar melodic emphasis. Though she’d always called him "Yueli," now the syllables danced teasingly from her lips.
"Yueli" floated her sing-song call from the bedroom.
This time, he resolved not to indulge her antics.
