Chapter 3 I Can’t Help You
The students in the class followed Tang Xiaorou’s gaze and looked towards the corner where Fang Yu was sitting.
Their eyes naturally fell on He Donglin, who was sitting in the front row.
He Donglin was the heartthrob of Class 2 in the third year of high school, handsome and from a wealthy family, making him the object of many girls’ secret crushes.
Could it be that Tang Xiaorou transferred to this class for He Donglin!?
“Dong, Donglin, it seems like the young lady from the Tang family is here for you,” said his deskmate, Hu Tao, nudging He Donglin with his elbow.
He Donglin was also a bit confused.
Back in the first year, he had pursued Tang Xiaorou, but before he could even say a word, someone sent by the Tang family had warned him.
From that moment on, He Donglin knew that Tang Xiaorou was not someone he could provoke.
But now, they were already in their third year, about to graduate, so why was Tang Xiaorou coming to him?
Could it be that Tang Xiaorou had secretly liked him for a long time?
Thinking this, He Donglin straightened his back, casually adjusted his bangs, feeling incredibly excited, though he maintained a calm exterior.
The students in the class focused their attention on Tang Xiaorou and He Donglin.
As for Fang Yu and the chubby guy, they had long been ignored.
One was a couch potato, and the other had a reclusive personality; how could they possibly attract the attention of the goddess Tang Xiaorou?
“Damn it, another flower is going to be wasted on He Donglin!”
“Sigh, if only I were as rich and handsome as He Donglin.”
“Tang Xiaorou is my goddess… how could she like someone else?”
The boys in the class felt a mix of envy and jealousy, their emotions complicated.
The homeroom teacher, Huang Hai, looked kindly at Tang Xiaorou and asked, “Tang Xiaorou, do you want to sit with He Donglin?”
Tang Xiaorou didn’t respond; she simply walked down from the podium and headed towards Fang Yu’s seat.
He Donglin felt nervous, his heart racing as he thought about what to say first.
As Tang Xiaorou got closer, He Donglin’s lips curled into a slight smile, ready to speak.
But unexpectedly, Tang Xiaorou didn’t stop beside him; instead, she walked right past him.
“Teacher, I want to sit with Fang Yu,” Tang Xiaorou said, looking at Fang Yu with bright eyes.
……
The classroom fell silent, and the students stared wide-eyed at each other.
What was going on? Tang Xiaorou actually wanted to sit with the inconspicuous Fang Yu? Not with the heartthrob He Donglin?
“Classmate, would you be willing to give up this seat for me?” Tang Xiaorou asked the stunned Liu Pangzi, her tone gentle and her voice melodious.
As a couch potato, this was the first time Liu Pangzi faced such a beautiful girl at such close range; his face turned bright red, and he opened his mouth but couldn’t say a word.
“I don’t want to sit with you,” Fang Yu interjected before Liu Pangzi could respond.
“Wow…”
Some boys couldn’t hold back and erupted in exclamations.
Tang Xiaorou wanting to sit with Fang Yu was shocking enough.
But they never expected Fang Yu would actually refuse to sit with Tang Xiaorou?
Did he know what he was rejecting?
It was the dream of every boy in the school!
“Damn it, if you don’t want to, I do!”
All the boys in the class were shouting in their hearts.
Tang Xiaorou didn’t care about Fang Yu’s refusal; she turned to Huang Hai.
Feeling Tang Xiaorou’s gaze, Huang Hai tensed up.
With Tang Xiaorou’s status, even the principal would have to show respect in front of her. Now that she made a small request, Huang Hai naturally had to comply.
So, Huang Hai looked at Fang Yu and said sternly, “Fang Yu, you need to be more respectful! Tang Xiaorou just joined our class; how can you speak to her like that?”
“You and Liu Dong often whisper to each other in class; I’ve wanted to separate you two for a long time!”
“Perfect, let Tang Xiaorou sit with you, and Liu Dong can move to the back of the second group and sit alone! Move now!”
With the homeroom teacher’s order, Fang Yu had no choice but to comply.
A few minutes later, Tang Xiaorou happily became Fang Yu’s deskmate, while Liu Pangzi sat alone at the back of the second group.
“Tang Xiaorou is an outstanding student from the key class; everyone should learn from her!” Huang Hai praised.
For Fang Yu, sitting with Tang Xiaorou was undoubtedly a terrible thing.
He had kept a low profile in this high school for two whole years, to the point where most of the students in the class couldn’t even remember his name. But all of that was ruined by Tang Xiaorou.
Even now, although class was still in session, Fang Yu could feel many gazes locked onto him.
“Sigh.” Fang Yu sighed and rubbed his temples.
After class, under the watchful eyes of all his classmates, Fang Yu and Tang Xiaorou left the classroom one after the other and went to the rooftop of the teaching building.
“I know why you came to find me, but I can tell you that I can’t help you,” Fang Yu said straightforwardly.
Tang Xiaorou bit her lip and said, “You are the disciple of the Medicine God; you can definitely save my grandfather.”
“I’ve said it before, I’m not a disciple of Xia Xiuzhi; I’m his friend,” Fang Yu shook his head.
“Don’t lie to me; you can tell at a glance that my grandfather is in the late stage of lung cancer and has less than three months to live. Who else but the disciple of the Medicine God could do that?” Tang Xiaorou said firmly.
Fang Yu regretted saying that earlier.
“So what? Just because you can see it doesn’t mean anything. In the late stages of cancer, I doubt anyone in the world can cure it,” Fang Yu raised an eyebrow.
“I—I’m not asking you to cure him; I just hope… you can extend my grandfather’s life, let him live a few more years… please, we really have no other way…” Tang Xiaorou’s beautiful eyes turned red as she choked out.
Over the past year, the Tang family had spent a lot of money hiring many well-known experts from both domestic and abroad to diagnose Old Master Tang, and the conclusions were all the same: Old Master Tang’s illness was incurable.
After that, they went through great difficulties to find the Medicine God Xia Xiuzhi’s residence, only to find out that the Medicine God had already passed away.
Now, Fang Yu, who appeared at the Medicine God’s residence and could see Old Master Tang’s condition at a glance, was their last hope.
With a beauty like Tang Xiaorou looking pitiful and on the verge of tears, any normal man would find it hard to resist.
However, Fang Yu was not a normal man; he was a creature who had lived for nearly five thousand years.
“Sorry, I can’t do that either,” Fang Yu said.
There are so many people in the world facing misfortune; Fang Yu couldn’t save everyone, nor was he obligated to save everyone.
Fang Yu just wanted to live a simple life, hoping to break through the Qi Refining stage one day.
He was not a hero and didn’t want to be one.
“No matter how much reward you want, we can afford it!” Tang Xiaorou said again.
“I really can’t help you; I don’t need money,” Fang Yu replied indifferently, turning to leave.
After taking a couple of steps, he turned back and said, “By the way, I hope you can move away; I don’t want to sit with you. I really… dislike trouble.”
Seeing Fang Yu leave without looking back, Tang Xiaorou’s face turned pale with anger.
As the young lady of the Tang family, she had never tried to plead so humbly, even shedding tears.
But this Fang Yu was completely unyielding, maintaining a calm demeanor.
“Dislike trouble? Then I’ll just have to create trouble for you!” Tang Xiaorou gritted her teeth.
The two returned to the classroom, and in the following classes, there was no communication between them.
Until the last class of the morning ended, Fang Yu was still resting his head on the desk, while Tang Xiaorou organized her books and poked Fang Yu’s shoulder with her slender fingers.
“Fang Yu, let’s go have lunch together,” Tang Xiaorou said in a sweet voice.
Fang Yu raised his head and looked at the smiling Tang Xiaorou, feeling uneasy.
“Forget it, you were too tired last night; just keep sleeping. I’ll bring you lunch later, so just wait obediently,” Tang Xiaorou said, a hint of mischief flashing in her beautiful eyes as she left the classroom.
In the classroom, the students who heard Tang Xiaorou’s words went wild.
The implications of those words were too significant!
What did “too tired last night” mean? What about the shyness and blush on Tang Xiaorou’s face when she said that!?
Could it be that Tang Xiaorou had already…
Facing the envious gazes of the boys in the class, Fang Yu remained calm.
It seemed that Tang Xiaorou was genuinely trying to create trouble for him.
However, for Tang Xiaorou to tarnish her own reputation just to create misunderstandings showed she was quite ruthless.
But Fang Yu didn’t care at all.
His dislike for trouble didn’t mean he was afraid of it.
Wasn’t it just becoming famous in school and being envied by a bunch of kids who hadn’t even grown up yet?
What was the big deal?
For someone who had cultivated for nearly five thousand years, if he couldn’t handle a teenage girl’s little tricks, he might as well just end it all.
Fang Yu stood up, intending to find Liu Pangzi to go to the cafeteria for lunch, but he was called back.
“Hey, Fang Yu, I want to discuss something with you; can we talk in the hallway?” The speaker was none other than He Donglin from the front row.
