Chapter 25: Fang Yu Cheated!
Fang Yu paid no attention to the gazes around him. Together with Tang Si, he went to the front desk, handed over two million, took the fifth-tier demonic beast inner core, and left the auction house.
Wu Xiong snorted coldly and followed them out.
“Let’s go watch the show!” Quite a few spectators who enjoyed seeing a spectacle also trailed behind Wu Xiong.
Following Fang Yu outside, Tang Si started to sweat on his forehead. After a moment’s thought, he took out his phone, intending to call Tang Mingde.
“No need to call,” Fang Yu stopped him.
Tang Si’s expression flickered for a bit, but he finally put his phone away.
By this time, the two of them had reached the open parking area.
“You two, stop right there!” A deep, resonant voice from behind rang out—it was Wu Xiong.
Fang Yu halted, turned around, and looked at Wu Xiong with a smile. “Something you need?”
Wu Xiong wore a vicious grin. “Kid, you sure have guts. I’ll give you two choices, seeing as you’re still so young.
“First: give me two million, and I’ll let you walk away.
“Second: I cripple you and take the demonic beast inner core for myself.”
Fang Yu shook his head. “You’re basically robbing me. I’m not choosing either one.”
“So you want to die!” Wu Xiong glared, eyes bulging with rage.
“Brother Wu, I’m Tang Si from the Tang Family in Jiangnan. This here is a friend of mine. Please—” Tang Si started to plead.
“The Tang Family of Jiangnan?” Wu Xiong froze for a moment, then his eyes lit up. “The Tang Family? Then you should have plenty of money. This friend of yours has provoked me. Unless you offer a price that satisfies me, I won’t let him off so easily,” Wu Xiong said.
“I’m willing to pay two—” Tang Si was about to speak.
Fang Yu took a step forward. “Don’t give him a single cent.”
Wu Xiong threw his head back and let out a long, loud laugh, glaring at Fang Yu with eyes blazing red. “If I let a little bastard like you off today, I’ll read ‘Wu the Tiger’ backward!”
“This kid really wants to die! Does he know who Wu Xiong is? How dare he provoke him like that!” whispered onlookers who had come to watch the commotion.
Tang Si’s face went pale, drenched in cold sweat. He was starting to regret bringing Fang Yu to that auction house. He never expected the normally mature Fang Yu to act so brashly. He had reminded Fang Yu not to cross Wu Xiong, yet Fang Yu deliberately provoked him. Now Wu Xiong was completely enraged.
“Hold on to the demonic beast inner core for me.” Fang Yu handed the box containing the inner core to Tang Si.
By this time, Wu Xiong was already on the move. He charged at Fang Yu with explosive speed, his entire body tense with muscle.
Fang Yu took a step forward, standing still to await Wu Xiong’s attack.
“Die!” Wu Xiong raised his fist and threw a punch at Fang Yu. This was the full-force blow of Wu Xiong, a tenth-level Innate Stage martial artist—the power needed no explanation.
Not a few people closed their eyes, unwilling to watch the scene of Fang Yu’s head being blown apart by a single punch.
Boom!
A loud crash rang out as dust billowed around where Fang Yu stood. The fierce punch wind forced Tang Si—who was closest to Fang Yu—to stagger back several steps. Just one punch had such power. Wu Xiong was terrifying.
Tang Si went pale, too afraid to imagine what had happened to Fang Yu after taking that punch head-on.
When the dust cleared, gasps arose from onlookers.
Focusing his gaze, Tang Si realized Fang Yu was still there, perfectly fine. He had blocked Wu Xiong’s punch with just one palm.
Veins popped on Wu Xiong’s forehead as he swung his left fist. Fang Yu raised his other palm, effortlessly stopping that punch as well. Throughout it all, Fang Yu hadn’t budged an inch.
“That’s all you’ve got? Then I’m afraid it’s my turn.” Fang Yu smirked and seized Wu Xiong’s fists, twisting them hard.
Crack! The sound of bones shattering echoed from both of Wu Xiong’s wrists at once.
Wu Xiong howled in pain, his entire body flipping in midair before crashing to the ground.
Fang Yu stepped forward and stomped on Wu Xiong’s chest.
“Pffft!”
Wu Xiong spat out a large mouthful of blood, face now ashen.
Spectators stared wide-eyed in disbelief. Was this really the once overbearing Wu Xiong? How could he be defeated so easily?
Wu Xiong looked at Fang Yu in horror. “That’s impossible! You clearly only have the strength of a fifth-level Innate… Pffft!”
Fang Yu pressed his foot down, making Wu Xiong cough up more blood. “You only think I’m a fifth-level Innate because I wanted you to think that.” Fang Yu’s tone was calm.
With that, he lifted his foot again and slammed it down onto Wu Xiong’s dantian.
“No…” Wu Xiong cried out desperately.
Boom!
Fang Yu’s foot struck hard at Wu Xiong’s dantian. Wu Xiong spat out another mouthful of blood, his face growing lifeless. His dantian was shattered, and decades of cultivation were wasted in an instant. From this day on, he was nothing but a cripple.
How ruthless!
The crowd felt a chill creep over them. Wu Xiong had really kicked a steel plate this time.
“Who is this young man? Wu the Tiger couldn’t even fight back.”
“Oh my goodness, I think he’s even more terrifying than that monstrous genius surnamed Yang who’s been famous in Jiangnan lately.”
“You mean Yang Jian from the Yang Family? I still think Yang Jian might be stronger—he’s already half a step into the Grandmaster Realm!”
Onlookers chattered excitedly among themselves, while Fang Yu and Tang Si returned to the car.
“Mr. Fang,” Tang Si said hesitantly, looking at Fang Yu’s calm expression. “Forgive my asking…”
“Yes?” Fang Yu turned to him.
“Your current strength… at which Innate level are you exactly?” Tang Si wiped his forehead again, moist with sweat.
Fang Yu thought for a moment, then gave an honest answer: “I’m currently at the nine-thousand-eight-hundred-thirty-fourth layer of the Innate Stage, and I’ll probably break through to the nine-thousand-eight-hundred-thirty-sixth layer soon.”
Tang Si just sat there, stunned.
…
Upon returning home, Fang Yu wasted no time taking out the demonic beast inner core. It was so large that he had to divide it into four portions before swallowing it all.
A surge of pure spiritual energy flowed into his dantian, resulting in a wonderful sense of comfort. That rush of energy instantly propelled him through two more levels, reaching the 9,836th layer of the Qi Refinement Stage.
“If I can find another hundred of these high-level demonic beast inner cores, breaking through ten thousand layers might happen in no time!” A flash of hope flickered in Fang Yu’s eyes.
…
Early the next morning, the moment Fang Yu entered the classroom, he noticed Tang Xiaorou staring at him with a somewhat sinister grin.
“If you’re not feeling well, you can just take a day off. Why bother me?” Fang Yu said.
“I’m not sick! I just can’t hold back a laugh when I imagine you later becoming my errand boy, all submissive and deferential,” Tang Xiaorou replied.
The results of the mock exam would be announced soon, likely that afternoon.
Fang Yu did not bother trading further barbs with Tang Xiaorou. They could settle everything once the results were out.
Afternoon arrived quickly, and the first class belonged to their homeroom teacher, Huang Hai. As expected, he would be the one to announce the results.
Tang Xiaorou wore a triumphant expression, as if she had already won.
When the bell rang, Huang Hai walked in holding the score sheet. He glanced meaningfully at Fang Yu as soon as he entered.
“Class, the results of yesterday’s mock exam are out. I’ll discuss them now,” Huang Hai began. He proceeded to share various data: how many had passed the basic passing line, how many had reached key scores, and so on…
Finally, he reached the top ten scorers—exactly what Tang Xiaorou cared about most.
“Tenth place, He Dongrong, total of 623 points—an improvement, keep it up,” Huang Hai said.
“Ninth place…”
“Eighth place…”
…
“Third place, Xu Xiaona, total of 649 points. You’ve maintained a decent score, but there’s still room for improvement,” Huang Hai commented.
Xu Xiaona looked displeased. She was almost always first in class, rarely losing her top spot. Although her total score this time was close to her usual, she had dropped to third place. The class buzzed with mild surprise, then remembered Tang Xiaorou had joined Class Two. It made sense that Tang Xiaorou’s results could surpass Xu Xiaona’s.
“Second place is Tang Xiaorou with 707 points, ranking fourth in the entire grade. A truly outstanding score…” Huang Hai praised.
But everyone in class froze when they heard “707.” If Tang Xiaorou was only in second place, that meant her 707 points weren’t the highest in the class. Did Huang Hai mix up the sheets?
Tang Xiaorou bit her lip, furrowing her brows. She never imagined that even with such a high score, she wouldn’t rank first in class. Could it be…
She suddenly thought of Fang Yu and glanced over, only to see him absorbed in reading a novel.
“It can’t be him…” she told herself.
“I know you’re all curious who got first place this time and how anyone could outdo Tang Xiaorou’s 707 points,” Huang Hai continued. “I was also quite surprised when I saw this student’s results. I initially thought there must have been an error, so I asked every subject teacher to verify each score.
“In the end, there was no mistake.” With that, his eyes fell on Fang Yu.
All at once, the rest of the class turned to stare at Fang Yu.
“First place goes to Fang Yu, with a total of 723 points. That’s not only first in our class, but first in the entire grade!” Huang Hai announced.
“Wow…”
A stir spread through the classroom. No one had expected Fang Yu to claim first place, let alone with such a high score—enough to rank top of the grade.
Tang Xiaorou looked at Fang Yu’s calm demeanor, on the verge of tears. She had studied so hard, but ended up 16 points behind someone who barely seemed to pay attention in class. Who was Fang Yu, really? How could he be so good at everything?
Tang Xiaorou felt a tangle of emotions. Part of her was fiercely unwilling to accept it, while another part admitted she was totally convinced of Fang Yu’s ability now.
“Starting tomorrow, remember to bring me breakfast. And make sure it’s something different every day,” Fang Yu reminded her by patting her shoulder.
“Got it…” Tang Xiaorou sounded completely deflated, her voice as soft as a mosquito’s hum.
“Teacher! Fang Yu must have cheated!” Suddenly, Xu Xiaona rose from her seat and shouted.
