Chapter 2: Trouble Arrives
Jiangnan region, Jianghai City.
As Fang Yu stepped out of the train station, it was just evening. Passing by the vegetable market, he bought a pre-slaughtered chicken and two cans of beer, then slowly walked home.
His home was in a dilapidated urban village, a two-story house with a small courtyard. Fang Yu lived on the second floor, while a mother and daughter lived on the first floor.
The rent here was very cheap, only five hundred yuan a month.
Upon returning home, Fang Yu set up a grill in the courtyard and placed the chicken on it to roast.
Just as he was brushing sauce on the chicken, a girl with a backpack jogged into the courtyard.
“It smells so good, Brother Fang Yu! I could smell it from far away,” the girl said as she approached him, her big eyes sparkling at the sight of the roasting chicken.
“Don’t worry, there will definitely be some for you,” Fang Yu replied.
“You’re the best to me, Brother Fang Yu,” the girl said happily before walking into her home.
This girl was the tenant on the first floor, Yu Yueyue, who was currently in her first year of high school.
A moment later, Yu Yueyue came out again, carrying a small stool and sitting down next to Fang Yu.
“Brother Fang Yu, where have you been these past few days? My mom went back to her hometown recently, and I’ve been living here alone. It’s so boring,” Yu Yueyue said, resting her chin on her hands.
“An old friend passed away, and I went to see him,” Fang Yu answered truthfully.
“…I’m sorry. My condolences,” Yu Yueyue said softly, as if she had done something wrong.
Fang Yu’s friend must have been around his age and very close to him; it was tragic to die so young.
However, Yu Yueyue noticed that there was no sadness on Fang Yu’s face; he was just staring at the greasy roasted chicken, swallowing his saliva.
“All done!”
After a few minutes, Fang Yu picked up the roasted chicken, holding it in his hand as if he wasn’t afraid of the heat at all.
He tore off a chicken leg and handed it to Yu Yueyue, then began to gnaw on the remaining roasted chicken.
So delicious!
Speaking of which, a person who had cultivated for nearly five thousand years still couldn’t achieve the state of forgoing food and had to rely on grains to fill his stomach; it was truly absurd.
But Fang Yu had no choice. He could choose not to eat, but he would feel hungry.
Long ago, there was a time when he was extremely disillusioned with life and wanted to starve himself to death.
As a result, after not eating or drinking for two months, he was still alive and well. However, although his bodily functions were fine, he felt an overwhelming hunger and thirst.
As long as that feeling of hunger and thirst existed, Fang Yu had to eat and drink; otherwise, he would feel very uncomfortable.
That night, Fang Yu sat on his bed, flipping through the prescriptions that Xia Xiuzhi had spent nearly twenty years writing.
These prescriptions were the culmination of Xia Xiuzhi’s life’s research, his life’s work.
Any single prescription was a priceless treasure; if leaked, it would undoubtedly cause a stir in the medical community.
“This kid even researched prescriptions for enhancing vitality and kidney tonics; he truly is a prodigy,” Fang Yu muttered to himself.
“Bang bang bang…”
Just as Fang Yu was looking at the prescriptions, a loud knocking sound came from downstairs.
“Yu old dog, come out! You still owe us fifty thousand in gambling debts. Do you think hiding will let you off the hook?” a rough voice shouted.
With Fang Yu’s hearing, he could hear Yu Yueyue’s cries from the first floor.
This girl seemed to have mentioned that her mother had gone back to her hometown, leaving her alone at home these days.
“Hurry up and open the door! If you don’t, we’ll break down your door! If I catch you later, I’ll crush your eggs!” another voice yelled.
“Bang!”
While speaking, they had already started to slam against the door.
“Y-Yu Chengye has divorced my mom; he has nothing to do with us, and he isn’t here…” Yu Yueyue said, her voice trembling with tears.
“You say he isn’t here, so he isn’t? You’re his daughter; will you just watch him die?” the two men continued to slam the door.
“If you keep banging, I-I’ll call the police!” Yu Yueyue cried out.
“You dare to call the police? If I break down the door, I’ll deal with you first!” one of the men threatened.
“Bang, bang, bang!”
The door was smashed open.
Two fierce-looking men barged into the house and saw Yu Yueyue sitting on the floor, her legs weak from fear.
The two men looked around and found that there was no one else in the house, only Yu Yueyue.
“Wow, this Yu old dog can still have such a beautiful daughter?” one man said, his eyes burning as he looked at the trembling Yu Yueyue.
“Then I have an idea; since we can’t find Yu old dog, let’s take her and sell her. The money will be used to pay off Yu old dog’s debts,” the other man said.
“Don’t rush; before that, we can first… heh heh.” The man squatted down, looking at the shaking Yu Yueyue with a wicked grin as he reached out.
But before his hand could touch Yu Yueyue, he felt a tremendous force lift him off the ground.
“Who are you!?” the other man shouted, trying to attack Fang Yu.
“Bang!”
In the next second, the man let out a scream as Fang Yu kicked him out, and he fell into the courtyard.
The man Fang Yu had lifted had no chance to speak; Fang Yu slapped him several times in quick succession before throwing him into the courtyard.
“Who owes you money, go find them. Three seconds, get out of here immediately,” Fang Yu said calmly.
The two men were quickly beaten to the point of dizziness, realizing Fang Yu’s terrifying strength, and naturally dared not linger. They didn’t even dare to utter threats as they fled in panic.
Looking at the still trembling and crying Yu Yueyue on the ground, Fang Yu squatted down and said, “It’s okay now; I’ve chased them away.”
Yu Yueyue hugged Fang Yu and cried even louder.
After comforting Yu Yueyue for a while and fixing her door, Fang Yu returned to the second floor.
To be honest, having lived for nearly five thousand years, Fang Yu had seen too much and had become quite indifferent.
For many people’s misfortunes, like Old Master Tang’s, he would choose to watch coldly from the sidelines.
He would only selectively help those he had a connection with or found interesting.
As night deepened, Fang Yu lay on his bed, closed his eyes, and was about to sleep.
Just like not eating food, Fang Yu wouldn’t die from not sleeping, but he would feel tired.
So, he still needed to sleep.
However, he had barely closed his eyes for two minutes when he heard a knock on the door.
He went to open it and found Yu Yueyue standing there in a thin nightgown.
“Brother Fang Yu, I-I’m scared to sleep alone at home… can I sleep at your place?” Yu Yueyue’s beautiful big eyes were red and swollen from crying, and her delicate nose was also red, looking pitiful.
Aside from her mother, Fang Yu was the person she trusted the most.
Fang Yu was taken aback; there was only one bed in his home.
But seeing that Yu Yueyue was still trembling, he didn’t refuse and agreed to her request.
“You can sleep in my bed tonight,” Fang Yu said.
“I-I can sleep on the floor; you take the bed,” Yu Yueyue replied.
“That’s fine; I slept a lot on the train today, so I’m not tired,” Fang Yu said.
Yu Yueyue stopped talking and carefully climbed onto Fang Yu’s bed.
This was Brother Fang Yu’s bed; it still had warmth; he must have just been lying here…
Lying on the bed, watching Fang Yu at the desk looking at a large stack of prescriptions, Yu Yueyue felt her face flush.
I can’t believe I’m really lying on Brother Fang Yu’s bed…
What is Brother Fang Yu looking at?
How can Brother Fang Yu be so strong? Those two men were so fierce, yet Brother Fang Yu threw them out in just a few moves… so cool.
Yu Yueyue, filled with youthful infatuation, let her thoughts wander, and soon the feeling of sleepiness overtook her, and she fell asleep.
The next day, Fang Yu arrived at Jianghai High School.
In fact, over the thousands of years, he had attended school many times.
But there was no way around it; since he had to live, he had to live like a normal person.
Having tried countless professions, Fang Yu still found school the most interesting and the easiest.
Returning to Class 2 of the third year, Fang Yu sat in a corner of the classroom.
In class, he was just a reclusive and low-key student, with no friends and hardly noticeable.
He could guarantee that at least half of the class didn’t even know his name.
“I heard that the school beauty from the key class, Tang Xiaorou, is transferring to our class. Is that true?”
“Yeah, the class monitor overheard Tang Xiaorou talking to our homeroom teacher, and she requested to transfer to our class.”
“No way, what’s going on? She’s a goddess! Why does she want to transfer to our class? Does she have her eye on some guy here?”
Fang Yu could hear their discussions, but he found them noisy.
“Hey, Fang Yu, Tang Xiaorou is transferring to our class; why aren’t you excited at all?” his chubby deskmate Liu Dong poked Fang Yu’s arm and asked.
“I don’t even know who she is; why should I be excited?” Fang Yu retorted.
“Come on, you haven’t heard of Tang Xiaorou? She’s the daughter of the Tang family in Jiangnan, a prominent family, and she has a face as beautiful as an angel. She’s undoubtedly the school beauty of Jianghai High School, a goddess-level figure!” Liu Dong said excitedly.
The Tang family in Jiangnan? That name sounded familiar.
But Fang Yu just said “oh” and lay down on the desk to rest his eyes.
He hadn’t slept all night and felt a bit tired.
Seeing that Fang Yu had no interest, Liu Dong stopped chatting with him.
When the class bell rang, everyone returned to their seats, sitting up straight, waiting for the school beauty’s arrival.
Sure enough, the homeroom teacher, Huang Hai, led a girl into the classroom.
The girl was wearing a school uniform, with a single ponytail, and her face was free of makeup, yet her skin was still as white as snow, smooth and radiant.
Her features were exquisite, with star-like sparkling eyes, a delicate nose, and rosy lips.
Though she wore a school uniform, the girl exuded an ethereal beauty.
This was the school beauty, this was the goddess.
Almost simultaneously, both boys and girls in the class sighed in admiration.
“From today on, classmate Tang Xiaorou will be transferring to our Class 2 and studying with us. Let’s warmly welcome classmate Tang Xiaorou!” the homeroom teacher Huang Hai said respectfully.
The students in the class applauded, waking Fang Yu from his dozing.
As he lifted his head, Fang Yu saw Tang Xiaorou standing at the podium.
Huh? It’s actually her?
Fang Yu immediately understood why Tang Xiaorou wanted to transfer to this class.
Damn! Trouble has come.
Tang Xiaorou was also looking for Fang Yu in the class, and when she spotted him in the corner, her beautiful eyes lit up.
Fang Yu, you really are here!
“Teacher, I want to sit next to him,” Tang Xiaorou said, her gaze fixed on Fang Yu’s spot.
