Chapter 12: Fang Yu’s Predicament
If someone were to witness the scene at the front of the truck, they would surely be shocked into silence.
There stood a boy in a school uniform, extending his right palm, single-handedly pressing against the front of the truck.
The dent in the truck’s front revealed just how immense the force of the collision had been.
Fang Yu’s expression was calm as he glanced down at his shoes.
After sliding along the ground for over ten meters, the soles of the canvas shoes he was wearing had completely worn away.
However, if Fang Yu had not been wearing shoes, what had just happened would not have been a collision, but an explosion.
Fang Yu had trained his body for a full fifteen hundred years, and his physical form had long reached an indestructible state. A truck colliding with him was essentially no different from crashing into a mountain.
He had already sensed the truck’s presence and recognized the driver as Da Biao, whom he had encountered the day before.
Fang Yu had intentionally allowed himself to be hit.
Because this way, he had a reason to retaliate in self-defense.
“Boom!”
With a push of his right hand, the ten-ton truck was sent sliding backward several meters.
Fang Yu walked over to the driver’s side door and pulled it open.
“Crack!”
The driver’s door was forcibly opened by Fang Yu.
Da Biao was still frantically twisting the steering wheel and pressing the gas pedal.
But the truck’s power system had already failed.
“How is this possible!?” Seeing Fang Yu appear before him, Da Biao’s mind went blank.
What had happened in that minute had exceeded his comprehension.
A person being hit by a speeding heavy truck, yet remaining unscathed and able to stop the truck with sheer strength?
Was this human?
Wasn’t this something that only happened in movies or novels?
“The truck is broken.”
Fang Yu’s voice pulled Da Biao back to reality.
“You, you want to… ah!” Before Da Biao could finish his sentence, Fang Yu pressed his head down and slammed it against the steering wheel.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
The dull thuds were accompanied by Da Biao’s screams.
Fang Yu noticed the intercom on the passenger seat, picked it up, and pressed the call button.
Three seconds later, He Wencheng’s voice came through: “Da Biao, is everything settled? I’ve arranged for the brothers to pick you up…”
Fang Yu remained silent, continuing to slam Da Biao’s head down.
Da Biao’s screams echoed through the intercom to the other side.
He Wencheng paused for a moment before shouting, “What’s going on? Da Biao! What happened?”
Da Biao’s face was bloodied, and his screams grew weaker until he fainted.
Fang Yu picked up the intercom, and He Wencheng was still shouting on the other end.
“Get here within twenty minutes, or your subordinate is done for. Otherwise, prepare to collect his body.” Fang Yu said flatly before turning off the intercom.
Fang Yu looked at the bloodied Da Biao, his eyes showing no signs of emotion.
After dealing with Da Biao, Fang Yu jumped down from the truck and immediately spotted a beautiful teacher in a daze behind him.
He recognized this beauty.
She was Ding Ran, the English teacher from the neighboring key class.
Due to her outstanding looks, Ding Ran was quite famous at Jianghai High School and was considered the perfect goddess by many boys.
Fang Yu had seen Ding Ran several times in the hallway and had heard countless stories about her from the boys in his class.
What was she doing here? Had she seen everything that just happened?
Fang Yu frowned slightly and walked over.
“Are you… okay?” Ding Ran asked, her cherry lips parted, her bright eyes filled with disbelief.
“Teacher Ding, I apologize.” Fang Yu extended a finger and tapped it on Ding Ran’s forehead.
Ding Ran’s body trembled, and her expression turned vacant.
“Go home, you’ll feel better after a nap.” Fang Yu said.
Go… home?
Ding Ran stared blankly at Fang Yu, and two seconds later, she stepped forward and walked across the crosswalk.
Fang Yu had used a simple spell on Ding Ran.
This spell was very straightforward and was effective mainly on ordinary people.
If all went well, after returning home, Ding Ran would take a nap and forget everything that had just happened. Even if she retained some memories, she would only think of them as a dream.
After Ding Ran left, Fang Yu looked around and noticed two surveillance cameras near the intersection.
Everything that had just happened had been recorded by the cameras.
After a moment’s thought, Fang Yu took out his phone and dialed a number.
“Hello, Xiao Jiang, it’s me. I need a favor…”
…
Fang Yu returned to the courtyard and was about to head upstairs when Yu Yueyue ran out from her house and grabbed his hand.
“Brother Fang Yu, my mom came back this morning. I told her about what happened a couple of days ago, and she wants to thank you. You should come over for dinner tonight.”
“Sure, I haven’t tasted Aunt Wang’s cooking in a long time.” Fang Yu readily agreed.
He would never refuse food, no matter the time.
Yu Yueyue’s mother, Wang Yan, was a skilled cook and a beautiful woman.
When Yu Yueyue was just ten years old, Wang Yan divorced Yu Chengye, who had a gambling addiction, and took on the responsibility of raising Yu Yueyue alone.
“Xiao Yu, sit for a bit. I’ll have the food ready soon.” Wang Yan said, tying on an apron as she peeked out from the kitchen, smiling at Fang Yu.
“It’s fine, no rush. I’m the one imposing on you again, Aunt Wang.” Fang Yu replied.
“Not at all! I’ve heard from Yueyue that if you hadn’t helped that night…” At this point, Wang Yan’s expression turned a bit grim, and she bit her lip, not continuing.
“I’ll start cooking now; you can have some tea.” Wang Yan said.
“Hey? Brother Fang Yu, why aren’t you wearing shoes?” Yu Yueyue suddenly noticed Fang Yu was barefoot and curiously asked.
“I stepped on a rock and tore the soles of my shoes, so I just threw them away.” Fang Yu explained.
“Did you step on both feet?” Yu Yueyue asked, her eyes wide.
“Yeah, my luck hasn’t been great lately; I keep running into misfortunes.” Fang Yu sighed lightly, speaking sincerely.
“Let me touch your head; I’ll give you some luck.” Yu Yueyue reached out her small hand and gently patted Fang Yu’s head.
A few minutes later, Wang Yan brought the dishes to the table, a total of four dishes and a soup.
Wang Yan’s cooking needed no further praise; Fang Yu always believed her culinary skills rivaled those of many hotel chefs.
During dinner, although Wang Yan chatted and laughed, Fang Yu noticed a hint of sorrow hidden in her eyes.
Considering that Wang Yan was treating him to dinner, Fang Yu was more than willing to help her, but since she didn’t voice her troubles, he wouldn’t pry.
After dinner, Fang Yu returned to the second floor.
Besides a small living room, his home had two rooms: one was a bedroom, and the other was a storage room.
As he passed by the storage room, Fang Yu caught a whiff of medicinal herbs and suddenly remembered the question Tang Xiaorou had asked earlier.
Inside the storage room were the medicinal herbs brought back from the northwest, which Xia Xiu had planted outside the grass hut.
These herbs were all extremely rare varieties, many of which had disappeared from the market.
One could say these herbs were truly worth their weight in gold.
Yet Fang Yu had carelessly tossed them in the storage room like garbage. If Xia Xiu knew how Fang Yu treated his hard work, he would probably be furious.
“Surely the herbs missing from that prescription must be here?” Fang Yu thought as he looked at the herbs in the storage room.
Forget it, help others to the end, especially since the Tang family even offered a reward.
“I’ll have that girl come by tomorrow to pick them up.”
Late at night, Fang Yu lay in bed, eyes wide open, contemplating various issues.
At his level of cultivation, advancing further was quite difficult. Although he was still in the Qi Refining stage, he was already at the 9,832nd layer.
As early as two thousand years ago, Fang Yu could no longer rely solely on cultivation techniques to absorb the spiritual energy of heaven and earth to enhance his abilities.
To break through the layers, he had to rely on other methods. Over the past two thousand years, the most efficient method Fang Yu had used was to swallow the inner cores of demon beasts.
With this method, he had progressed from the 5,000th layer of the Qi Refining stage to over 9,000 layers.
However, now, with the decline of spiritual energy on Earth, the number of surviving demon beasts was dwindling. In the past hundred years, Fang Yu had found only a handful.
Currently, his cultivation had completely stagnated, stuck at the 9,832nd layer for a long time.
Fang Yu believed that as long as he could break through to the 9,999th layer of the Qi Refining stage and reach the 10,000th layer, he would naturally enter the Foundation Establishment stage.
At that time… his ultimate dream of thousands of years of cultivation would finally be realized.
But unexpectedly, just as he was nearing the 10,000th layer, the demon beasts on Earth were almost extinct…
Now, he had to either find other efficient cultivation methods or search the world for the few remaining demon beasts.
“Forget it, no need to think about it. I have plenty of time; I’ll take it slow.” Fang Yu thought to himself.
Fang Yu closed his eyes, preparing to sleep.
But at that moment, he heard a muffled sobbing sound coming from downstairs.
