Volume 5 Chapter 56: Huang Xie
Huang Xie was the representative of Eight Wilderness Hall who participated in the Newcomer Competition with Xu Qingfan years ago. His terrifying roar and gloomy demeanor left a deep impression on Xu Qingfan. In recent years, Huang Xie’s fame has grown immensely, with rumors suggesting he is the top expert of the younger generation in the cultivation world.
However, for some reason, "Eight Wilderness Hall" hasn’t included him in any activities lately.
Hearing Man Di’s words, Man Tian frowned slightly and slowly asked, "Has that lad caused trouble again? Did he kill a disciple? Or injure a Flying General?"
Man Di shook his head and replied slowly, "This time it’s not Huang Xie’s fault. Two Flying Generals led some disciples to provoke him purposely. Now these people, like Huang Xie, possess the powers of the Shura Clan and have begun to retaliate against him. In fact, it’s partly Huang Xie’s fault. Although he has made considerable contributions over the years, his arrogance and disregard for other hall masters have made him enemies. Whenever tasks didn’t go his way, he would easily lash out at other disciples. Now that others are taking revenge, he has brought this upon himself."
Man Di’s words clearly leaned toward the Flying Generals who provoked Huang Xie.
Man Tian was well aware of how Man Di and the entire "Eight Wilderness Hall" viewed Huang Xie. To be honest, he valued Huang Xie, but Huang Xie’s reckless actions in recent years had angered many, and at this moment, Man Tian had no choice but to sacrifice Huang Xie.
With a slight sigh, Man Tian said slowly, "After all, Huang Xie is a person of merit, though he has his faults. I understand the disciples’ feelings, but don’t oppress him too much."
The phrase "don’t oppress too much" was cleverly used. Man Tian’s words indirectly permitted the provocation by "Eight Wilderness Hall" against Huang Xie, and this statement alone changed Huang Xie’s fate forever.
On the other side, Man Di nodded quietly and said nothing more, following Man Tian silently as they flew towards the base of the "Eight Wilderness Hall."
…
At this point, it’s important to mention the role of the "Statue of Shura" and the origins of Huang Xie.
Tens of thousands of years ago, humans were merely insignificant in the Shenzhou Continent, while the main characters were the immensely powerful demon beasts and the ancient races with vast strength.
Especially those ancient races, each born with inherent strength and lifespans of thousands or even tens of thousands of years, became incredibly powerful with cultivation, fully growing to rival the masters of today’s Mahayana Stage in the cultivation world.
Due to their warlike and bloodthirsty nature, these ancient races, though different, were collectively called the "Shura Clan" by humans.
However, these races, despite their power, had very low reproductive abilities. Combined with constant battles among themselves, their numbers kept dwindling.
During this time, the strongest branch of the Shura Clan, the "Ming tribe," suddenly discovered that humans, once deemed insignificant and viewed as food by the ancient races, actually possessed a strong ability to merge within their bloodline. The "Ming tribe," being the strongest, had become the primary target in the Shura wars, suffering great losses over the years, threatening their existence on the Shenzhou Continent in a few more millennia.
Then, the leader of the Ming tribe made an astonishing decision: to transform humans, who shared similarities in form and appearance with the "Ming," into true members of the Ming tribe to maintain their population. They dedicated efforts to researching transformation methods, eventually joined by other Shura races in this endeavor.
After countless years of research, these races finally created a Sacred Tool called the "Statue of Shura." This tool was designed specifically for humans. By sprinkling the essence of a creature on the Statue and using its power to transform humans, they would gain the abilities and traits of that creature. The Ming tribe wanted to use this Sacred Tool to transform many humans into members of the Ming tribe.
However, things didn’t go as planned, or rather, as the Ming tribe had hoped. The Sacred Tool proved capable of transforming humans, and indeed, it did endow them with many Ming tribe characteristics and abilities. Yet, most of the transformed humans retained their human traits. It could be said that instead of turning into the Ming tribe, they were more like humans with some Ming tribe features and powers.
Eventually, the Ming tribe abandoned the plan, and the "Statue of Shura" vanished without a trace. Over time, humans replaced the Shura Clan as the new main focus of the Shenzhou Continent, and the story of the Statue faded from memory.
Lastly, for reasons unknown, the "Statue of Shura" ended up in the hands of the two elders, Tian and "Di."
Man Tian originally didn’t know about these events, but when the elders "Tian" and "Di" gave him the "Statue of Shura," they revealed the story to him. Along with the Statue, they also gifted him some essence from the various Shura tribes. Man Tian used the "Statue of Shura" and the essence of the Shura tribes to transform himself and the disciples of his "Eight Wilderness Hall."
As a result, every disciple of the Eight Wilderness Hall gained some of the powers and abilities of the ancient Shura tribes, boosting their strength dramatically. This gave Man Tian the confidence to aim for supremacy in the cultivation world.
Huang Xie was the first Eight Wilderness Hall disciple to be transformed by the "Statue of Shura." Xu Qingfan was right in saying that Huang Xie had the bloodline of the ancient Shura Clan. Initially, Man Tian didn’t trust the elders’ account of the Statue, so he randomly chose a disciple to test it on, and that disciple was Huang Xie.
This allowed Man Tian time to let the two elders, "Tian" and "Di," use a large amount of essence and grievances to fully activate the "Statue of Shura." At the same time, he quietly observed "Huang Xie," wanting to see if there would be any abnormalities after his transformation. After a hundred years, aside from gaining some powers and traits of the ancient Shura Clan, Huang Xie remained the same, which finally eased Man Tian’s worries, and he began the large-scale transformation of the disciples of the "Eight Wilderness Hall."
Unexpectedly for Man Tian, the seemingly dull Huang Xie possessed remarkable hidden potential, which hadn’t been apparent simply due to lack of opportunity. Despite his significant power—thanks to the Shura traits gained—Huang Xie became the first among the Hall’s disciples to reach the Condensed Core Stage. Furthermore, every task Man Tian assigned him was completed diligently and ruthlessly. Although quiet, Huang Xie was seen by Man Tian as a rare talent.
However, because Huang Xie was too proud and ruthless, he punished any member of the "Eight Wilderness Hall" who failed to meet his standards severely. As a result, while the disciples respected him, they also harbored deep resentment. The leaders, including the "Evil Immortal Flying General," also held a poor impression of him due to his pride but refrained from offending him because of his formidable abilities.
Now, every disciple of the "Eight Wilderness Hall" had been transformed by the "Statue of Shura," gaining abilities that were once Huang Xie’s unique powers. His once terrifying might was now common, and his formidable roar was no longer outstanding. Thus, their previous fears disappeared, and their accumulated grievances and dissatisfaction erupted.
As Man Di had mentioned before, disciples of the "Eight Wilderness Hall" began frequently provoking Huang Xie. Although Huang Xie had killed one and severely injured two others—one being a Flying General—he had also suffered significant injuries and was now healing back at the "Eight Wilderness Hall" base.
Everyone knew that the conflicts between Huang Xie and the other disciples of the "Eight Wilderness Hall" were just beginning.
As the sect leader of the "Eight Wilderness Hall," facing such a situation, especially when the sect itself seemed impressive but was actually in great danger, the leader had no choice but to abandon Huang Xie for the sake of stability, despite considering him a talent.
Whether this decision was right or wrong could only be proven by time.
…
Meanwhile, in the bustling central Middle-earth, the Righteous Alliance was in chaos. Many major sects from the western part of Middle-earth, carrying their elite members and treasures, sought refuge with the Righteous Alliance but did not entirely give up their sect’s estates in the west. They left some less valued disciples to guard them and maintained contact frequently.
However, over the past two months, cultivators from these western sects were alarmed to find they had lost contact with the disciples left behind. If it were one or two sects, it might be explained, but the entire western sects facing the same issue seemed highly suspicious.
Has the catastrophe already begun in the prosperous West of Middle-earth?
Just as the Righteous Alliance was preparing to send their elite forces to explore the prosperous West of Middle-earth, the previously quiet "Eight Wilderness Hall" suddenly sent a messenger.
