Volume 4 Chapter 91: Fierce Battle (Part 1)
With Master Guanghui’s help, Xu Qingfan finally woke up. As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw mountains full of zombies!
Seeing these zombies with numb faces, bluish skin, and stiff bodies approaching him, the sunlight made their faces even more terrifying. Even Xu Qingfan who was used to battles and bloodshed couldn’t help but feel alarmed.
The main issue was, if these were ordinary zombies, it wouldn’t be much trouble—just tougher than ordinary humans. But these zombies gave off a subtle oppressive feeling that made one stay alert.
Seeing Ninglingzi and the others guarding him, Xu Qingfan felt a bit more at ease. Just as he was about to ask what happened while he was unconscious, he suddenly felt a pair of hands quietly supporting two points on his back, which began to tremble.
Puzzled, Xu Qingfan turned his head and was surprised. It wasn’t because Little Black had woken up and was perched on his shoulder as usual. He saw Master Guanghui from "Mercy Cloud Temple" sitting cross-legged behind him, hands hovering over his back as if healing him, but his face was pale and he was trembling. Seeing Xu Qingfan’s gaze, Master Guanghui forced a smile but couldn’t stand up, his Spirit Qi as exhausted as Xu Qingfan’s had been.
Xu Qingfan was slightly startled, recalling how after fainting, he felt someone continuously feeding him spirit pills and infusing Spirit Qi to help him recover. During the fight with Number One, his reserves of "Flourish Qi" and "Withered qi," used to balance life and death energies, and "Formless Spirit Qi" and "Phoenix Spirit Qi" used to dispel evil, were utterly depleted.
Now sensing within himself, Xu Qingfan discovered the enormously thick "Withered qi" circulating more powerfully than ever, while the other three Spirit Qis had barely recovered a tenth.
In an instant, Xu Qingfan understood what had happened. Master Guanghui must have given him many spirit herbs and infused a lot of Spirit Qi to help him recover. But Master Guanghui hadn’t anticipated the high level of Xu Qingfan’s four Spirit Qis, nor the existence of "Withered qi," which could corrode and absorb other Spirit Qis.
Perhaps he mistook the "Withered Qi" inside Xu Qingfan for the "Tian Sha Qi" of Number One. To expel the "Withered Qi," Master Guanghui had to continuously infuse Xu Qingfan with Spirit Qi, fearing that too much would harm Xu Qingfan, and so did not dare to use his full power. He also underestimated the corrosive strength of Xu Qingfan’s "Withered Qi." Moreover, Master Guanghui had exhausted a significant amount of Spirit Qi in the battle with Number Three. By the time he realized Xu Qingfan’s "Withered Qi" was strong enough to rival his own, it was too late to stop it.
To protect Xu Qingfan and to prevent the evil qi from entering his own body through Xu Qingfan, Master Guanghui had no choice but to keep sending Spirit Qi into Xu Qingfan until all his Spirit Qi was consumed by the "Withered Qi." Meanwhile, others were focused on the sudden appearance of Number Two and did not notice the unusual situation with Master Guanghui.
As a result, in such a short time, the Spirit Qi within Master Guanghui was completely eroded away by the "Withered Qi" in Xu Qingfan!
If Xu Qingfan hadn’t awakened in time and his internal "Withered Qi" hadn’t suppressed itself, Master Guanghui might have been harmed by the backlash of the "Withered Qi."
Once he understood the situation, Xu Qingfan found it both amusing and distressing. Though Master Guanghui’s attempt to help had inadvertently caused harm, Xu Qingfan felt grateful and apologetic. Master Guanghui had unintentionally strengthened the "Withered Qi" that Xu Qingfan had struggled to control. Restoring balance was uncertain, as was the potential harm to Xu Qingfan during this time. This thought filled Xu Qingfan with helplessness.
Regardless, Master Guanghui acted with good intentions. Now, with his Spirit Qi exhausted due to Xu Qingfan’s situation, Xu Qingfan couldn’t blame him. Xu Qingfan didn’t even tell Master Guanghui how his well-meaning effort had backfired. He simply helped Master Guanghui up from the ground, silently vowing to protect him in the upcoming battle.
Seeing Xu Qingfan stand up without any signs of harm, as if his Spirit Qi had recovered, Master Guanghui was surprised. According to his judgment, Xu Qingfan’s body should be filled with "Tian Sha Qi," but seeing Xu Qingfan’s clear eyes, he didn’t appear to be under its control.
Noticing Master Guanghui’s confused look, Xu Qingfan sighed softly and whispered, "Master, thank you for your help. I’m fine. I’ll explain the reasons once this matter is over."
As he spoke, Xu Qingfan turned his gaze to the countless zombies approaching closer and closer. The distance between them and the group was less than thirty feet. Some people in the group couldn’t resist and began to attack.
Deng Tianao frowned at the sight, for he had a strong dislike for the disgusting zombies due to his clean nature. With a wave of his right hand, a golden light flashed and the zombies in front of him silently vanished.
Xu Qingfan was surprised to see Deng Tianao, and turned to look at Chou Xuan, only to find him calm and composed. With his eyes closed, it was hard to tell his true emotions, but he seemed in no hurry to confront Deng Tianao.
Xu Qingfan wore a half-mask, so Deng Tianao did not recognize him as the one he once hated deeply.
The others, relieved by Deng Tianao’s easy handling of the zombies, felt that Number Two’s abilities were not as impressive as they seemed and began to act as well.
The first to act was Xiao Bieshan of the "Tianxing Sect." With a gesture, even in daylight, a powerful blue starlight formed hundreds of "Starlight Darts" that swiftly attacked the zombies. Hu Ming’s gold-based magic and Chou Xuan’s wind magic quickly followed suit against their respective zombie groups.
Only Ninglingzi refrained from joining the attack, focusing instead on controlling the two "Golden Armored Soldier Gods," which Xu Qingfan’s efforts had gradually made controllable again.
Deng Lian, who was with Deng Tianao, also did not join the attack due to injuries he sustained earlier defending against Number One’s attack.
In the blink of an eye, amidst flying sand, stones, blue light, and golden glimmer, the attacks were launched on the surrounding zombies, but the results were unexpected.
The zombies, once attacked, burst into pieces scattering around, splattering blue liquid and releasing a gray mist. The attackers in their fervor did not notice this, mistaking it for smoke from the explosions.
Even though everyone could easily destroy a horde of zombies, it seemed as if the zombies on "Ningyun Mountain" were endless. After defeating a group of them, more would crawl up from the ground and attack again, so the group didn’t have the chance to notice this right away.
Only Deng Tianao’s "Heavenly Punishment Technique" could turn the zombies to ashes and erase them completely, avoiding the same problem. However, the technique, although powerful, could only be used after some time had passed.
As time went by, the number of zombies on "Ningyun Mountain" increased. Although thousands had already been eliminated, even more zombies kept appearing.
The endless zombies were getting closer to the group, now just a yard away. The group members were forced to stand back-to-back to fight off the attacking zombies, as they felt they could be overwhelmed at any moment. They could now clearly see the numb expressions and hatred in the zombies’ eyes.
At last, when Xu Qingfan saw the grave situation and was about to attack despite the harm "Withered Qi" would do to him, something unexpected happened.
Xiao Bieshan, who was closest to the zombies and fighting fiercely, was accidentally touched by the increasingly dense gray mist. He screamed in agony, forgetting the nearby zombies and covering his eyes, crying out continuously, "My eyes! My eyes!"
His voice was an expression of pain and fear. From his fingers, covering his eyes, gray pus flowed, corroding his hands, and his body began showing red spots and began to rot under the corrosive mist.
These gray mists, which appeared like smoke and dust, were incredibly terrifying!
Seeing Xiao Bieshan’s condition shocked everyone. They looked at the fog surrounding them and retreated in fear, while Hu Ming, who was closest to Xiao Bieshan, pulled him out of the gray mist.
Forcibly pulling Xiao Bieshan’s hands away from his eyes, the sight shocked everyone. Xiao Bieshan’s eyes had turned into black, empty sockets, and his eyeballs were nowhere to be found. Hu Ming quickly took out a variety of antidotal remedies from his pocket, either pouring them into Xiao Bieshan’s eye wounds or feeding them to him. After Xiao Bieshan fell into a deep unconsciousness, worry flickered in everyone’s eyes. The eyes are very close to the brain, and no one knew if they were in time.
As the surrounding gray mist grew thicker, Hu Ming turned his gaze to Xu Qingfan and the others and asked, "What should we do?"
"To the sky!"
Xu Qingfan and Deng Tianao both said in unison.
Meanwhile, Chou Xuan silently performed a "Tornado Spell" aimed at the dense fog around him. A small whirlwind suddenly appeared at his side, growing more violent by the second until it transformed into a massive tornado, which swiftly swept toward the mist, tossing the hidden zombies into the air and shredding them to pieces. Despite the tornado’s awesome force, there was no sign that the surrounding mist was being blown away.
Seeing that the mist couldn’t be scattered by the wind, Chou Xuan frowned slightly, nodded, and sighed, "To the sky."
At that moment, the terrifying gray mist enveloped "Ningyun Mountain" entirely, leaving no other path than upwards.
So Xu Qingfan carried Master Guanghui, Deng Tianao took Deng Lian, Chou Xuan had Ninglingzi, and Hu Ming held Xiao Bieshan. They all quickly flew towards the sky before the mist could surround them.
Only then did everyone realize that out of the eight Condensed Core Stage cultivators, only half of them still had the power to fight!
The zombies in the gray mist, filled with hatred for living beings, looked up at the people flying into the sky and roared silently in frustration.
As zombies, they were unable to fly.
Meanwhile, Number One, Number Two, and Number Three stood around the altar watching Xu Qingfan and the others fight the zombies. Seeing Xiao Bieshan poisoned by the gray mist and everyone forced to rise into the air, a mocking smile flashed across one of their faces as they turned to Number One and asked, "Number One, are these the ones who hurt you? They can’t even handle my lowest level corpse."
Number One was angry but focused all his strength on merging with his newly acquired lower body, and simply said to Number Two, "Game time is over, hurry and kill them."
Number Two nodded helplessly and said, "Alright."
With that, Number Two skillfully moved his fingers, and under his control, loud booming noises began coming from the gray mist. To Xu Qingfan and the others in the sky, it was shocking to see the zombies in the mist suddenly explode, and as they were puzzled, they were even more astonished to find the exploded flesh slowly merging together again. Soon, the endless zombies vanished, but within the gray mist, several massive dark figures with an intimidating presence appeared. At the same time, a roar similar to that of a Death God echoed from the mist.
"Corpse King!"
Hu Ming exclaimed with a slight tone of fear in his voice. The Corpse King’s power nearly matched that of the Condensed Core Stage cultivator, and there were dozens of them before him. Among their group of eight, four were unable to fight, and the other four had already expended much of their Spirit Qi in the previous battle.
Could it be that this time, they would meet their end here?
Even though they didn’t want to admit it, everyone couldn’t help but have this thought come to mind.
Deng Tianao, at this moment, also started to regret getting involved in this matter. Unfortunately, he couldn’t back out now.
When Xu Qingfan saw the Corpse King appear, he was shocked. At the same time, he felt the little creature on his shoulder, Little Black, was full of excitement. This excitement began when the other zombies appeared, and if not for Xu Qingfan’s command, Little Black would have already leapt towards the Corpse King.
Xu Qingfan’s heart stirred slightly as he thought, "There were countless zombies earlier, but they weren’t obvious. Now, with the Corpse Kings appearing, the aura of death they emit is extremely noticeable. It seems these zombies are driven by this deathly aura, which explains why Little Black is so excited."
With this thought, Xu Qingfan’s expression became more resolute, as if he’d made a decision. Suddenly, he handed Master Guanghui, who he was holding, to Chou Xuan beside him.
"Leave these Corpse Kings to me!"
As he spoke, Xu Qingfan and Little Black transformed into streaks of black and white light, darting swiftly into the gray mist, leaving everyone in the sky with expressions of shock.
