Volume 4 Chapter 90: The Attack of the Corpses
When Deng Tianao suddenly appeared, everyone was incredibly astonished. Neither Deng Tianao nor Deng Lian possessed more than a Fake Golden Core Stage cultivation level. It was unclear how the two had previously concealed themselves from everyone, including Number One’s scrutiny.
Upon learning of Deng Tianao’s identity, the crowd was even more shocked. As one of the six Holy Lands in the cultivation world, the status of the Liuhe Gate’s sect leader is extremely esteemed. It was baffling why he would appear here.
However, when Deng Tianao referred to Chou Xuan as "Junior Brother Chou," it didn’t surprise the crowd much. Earlier, when Xu Qingfan mentioned Chou Xuan had cultivated the "Great Method of Heaven and Earth," they had already suspected Chou Xuan was a cultivator from the Liuhe Gate.
It was seeing the fleeting murderous intent on Chou Xuan’s face that made everyone feel curious.
At that moment, everyone was too busy dealing with the endless blood mist surrounding them. They couldn’t spare a moment to greet Deng Tianao or ask Chou Xuan for explanations.
In fact, Deng Tianao had been using the mysteries of the "Barrier of Heaven" to observe the battle from the sidelines for quite some time. He was indecisive about intervening, as while he wanted to protect Chou Xuan, he feared potentially offending a powerful organization, which could lead to more harm than good. Both Number One and Number Three demonstrated a peak Real Golden Core Stage strength, and rash intervention could involve unnecessary risk.
However, after weighing the pros and cons, Deng Tianao decided that saving Chou Xuan was necessary. Chou Xuan’s help was crucial for Deng Tianao to regain control of the Liuhe Gate, and assisting him could also endear him to the factions of Ninglingzi and Master Guanghui, ultimately yielding more benefits than drawbacks.
Yet, as a deeply cunning person, Deng Tianao was not in a hurry to act despite his decision. He waited for the precise moment when Number One’s attention faltered after seeing Little Black, and then suddenly executed the Liuhe Gate’s secret technique, the "Heavenly Punishment Technique," launching a surprise attack that instantly turned Number One’s lower body to ash.
Actually, at that moment when Xu Qingfan was in danger, Deng Tianao could have saved him, but Deng Tianao only thought about maximizing benefits by eliminating the strongest, Number One, without considering Xu Qingfan’s life.
From this, we can see how cold Deng Tianao’s nature truly is.
Watching Chou Xuan’s murderous gaze towards him, Deng Tianao remained unbothered, simply observing with interest the battle between Chou Xuan and the blood mist formed by Number Three.
As Deng Tianao mentioned before, anyone who has experienced over a decade of being hunted becomes pragmatic. Although Chou Xuan hates Deng Tianao deeply, he knows it’s not the right time to confront him, so the murder intent on his face quickly fades, and he focuses on dealing with the surrounding blood mist.
Seeing Chou Xuan’s expression, Deng Tianao smiles slightly, feeling more confident about persuading Chou Xuan in the future.
On the other side, seeing Deng Tianao appear and pay no attention to him, only greeting the crowd, Number One’s murderous intent grew stronger. He snorted coldly and once again employed the "Dark Spirit Technique," black mist appeared around him, transforming into dozens of Dark Spirits charging towards Deng Tianao and Deng Lian.
As Number One performed the technique, possibly due to the rapid circulation of Spirit Qi in his body, the wound on his waist bled faster, but in his fury, Number One didn’t notice.
Facing the dozens of fearsome Dark Spirits lunging at him, Deng Tianao remained unperturbed. He kept Deng Lian close not just because of their blood relation.
Deng Lian is the only genius in thousands of years from "Liuhe Gate" to master the "Liuhe Shield." This technique is recognized in the cultivation world as one of the top three defensive Taoist spells.
Deng Lian’s expression was stern as he formed seals with his hands. As dozens of Dark Spirits rushed toward them, they seemed to hit an invisible wall and couldn’t move any closer. No matter how frustrated and angry these Dark Spirits became, they spun and crashed around Deng Tianao and Deng Lian but could still not threaten them.
Meanwhile, Deng Tianao appeared relaxed. Occasionally, he pointed at a Dark Spirit, and with a flash of golden light, that Dark Spirit vanished instantly. Before long, the dozens of Dark Spirits, transformed by Number One, disappeared completely in the golden glow from Deng Tianao’s fingertips.
The golden light emitted from Deng Tianao’s fingers was none other than the "Heavenly Punishment Technique" of the Liuhe’s secret arts, renowned as one of the most indefensible attacks in the cultivation world. Once touched by its golden light, anything would turn to dust.
Earlier, it was under a sneak attack by the "Heavenly Punishment Technique" that Number One lost the lower half of his body.
Watching Deng Tianao’s actions, Number One’s eyes remained filled with murderous intent. Deng Tianao’s sneak attack was a rare injury he had suffered in recent years. Having his entire lower body turned to ash nearly drove him insane, and he coldly said, "’Liuhe Gate’s’ secret arts ‘Heavenly Punishment Technique’ and ‘Liuhe Shield’? Very well, I’ve long wanted to experience them."
As he spoke, a denser mass of black fog gathered around Number One, so vast it seemed to cover half the sky. His unleashed power caused everyone present to react with changed expressions.
Even after losing his lower body due to Deng Tianao’s earlier sneak attack, which should have diminished his strength, Number One’s displayed might remained overwhelmingly powerful.
Watching the black fog gather, Deng Tianao’s expression slightly changed. He glanced at Deng Lian, whose body trembled slightly while his face appeared pale. Deng Tianao furrowed his brow, realizing how strong Number One truly was. Although Deng Lian had cultivated the "Liuhe Shield," a supreme defensive art, it was barely enough to withstand two waves of Number One’s attacks and was already nearing its limit.
Despite being surprised by Number One’s strength, Deng Tianao quickly regained his calm demeanor. He asked the attacking Number One, "I heard that demon cultivators can’t die unless their head is destroyed. But I wonder, what happens if all the blood drains from their body?"
Hearing Deng Tianao’s words, Number One was suddenly shocked and quickly calmed down from his earlier rage. Ever since half of his body was wiped out by the "Heavenly Punishment Technique", Number One’s waist had been bleeding heavily. In his anger towards Deng Tianao’s sneak attack, he paid no attention to it. But reminded by Deng Tianao, he suddenly realized the non-stop bleeding was causing his body to shrivel up and his mind to become dizzy from blood loss.
Realizing the situation, Number One immediately retracted the magic he was about to use. He could kill Deng Tianao and Deng Lian, but breaking Deng Lian’s "Liuhe Shield" would take effort, and he might die from massive blood loss to the brain by then.
Number One glared at Deng Tianao, unwilling to accept it, then suddenly shouted, "Number Three, come back."
After a pause, Number One shouted louder, "Number Two, come out quickly, stop your experiment, and find me a lower body from your materials."
At that moment, Number Three, facing the combined attack from Ninglingzi, Master Guanghui, Hu Ming, and Xiao Bieshan, was gradually showing signs of struggle. The speed at which his body, turned into a mist of blood, reformed was becoming slower.
Upon hearing Number One, the blood mist suddenly gathered and reformed into Number Three’s shape. Although he was unwilling to not have devoured a Condensed Core Stage cultivator, he quickly returned to Number One’s side. His originally dark green skin now seemed almost transparent, showing he wasn’t entirely unharmed from being dispersed multiple times.
Even though Number Three had some internal injuries, he disregarded them and looked eagerly at Number One’s bleeding waist. However, under Number One’s cold snort, he reluctantly withdrew his gaze.
Just then, a cloud of black mist rose from the ground beside Number Three, and a frail scholar-like figure appeared before everyone. It seemed to be the Number Two mentioned by Number One.
If not for the half-corpse in Number Two’s hand, his appearance among the three seemed quite normal.
Number Two glanced at Ninglingzi and the others with a puzzled expression, tossed the half corpse he held to Number One, and asked, "They don’t seem that strong. Why are you two in such a sorry state?"
Number One snorted and placed the half corpse, which was missing everything above the waist, at his own waist. Then, something astonishing happened. A black mist rose from Number One’s wounded waist, accompanied by faint wails of ghosts and roars of the Death God. When the mist cleared, Number One and the half corpse had merged seamlessly, with no trace of the previous wound. The formerly pale and slightly bluish skin on the corpse gradually gained a healthy glow.
After finishing this, Number One snorted, "I was ambushed. Number Three just faced all four of them alone and got injured. You’ll have to deal with them next."
Number Two nodded slightly, a hint of resignation on his face. Just as he was about to act, he seemed to remember something and said to Number One, "After this is settled, remember to find a half corpse of a Condensed Core Stage cultivator for me."
Number One kept his wolf-like gaze fixed on Deng Tianao, who was now with Ninglingzi and the others, and slowly said, "After you finish them off, I’ll personally go and kill ten Condensed Core Stage cultivators for your research."
Number Two nodded in satisfaction, then turned his focus to Ninglingzi and the others, suddenly shouting, "Gather the earth as spirit; corpses can become soldiers, rise!"
As soon as Number Two spoke, the ground atop Ningyun Mountain silently cracked open. In numerous fissures, countless corpses struggled to break free from the earth and gathered together, slowly advancing toward Ninglingzi and the others.
However, the dangerous aura from these corpses was unlike that of ordinary zombies.
Meanwhile, as Numbers One and Two conversed, Deng Tianao and Deng Lian had already regrouped with Ninglingzi and the others. Master Guanghui, the moment Number Three retreated, swiftly appeared before Xu Qingfan, cradling the nearly unconscious Xu Qingfan and bringing him to the group’s center. He fed Xu Qingfan several sacred pills from Mercy Cloud Temple to restore his Spirit Qi and pressed his hand against Xu Qingfan’s back to help recover his Spirit Qi.
Xu Qingfan had originally come to "Ningyun Mountain" with everyone because of him. If it hadn’t been for Xu Qingfan earlier, they might have been killed during the "Night of Nothingness." He couldn’t help but feel a sense of guilt towards Xu Qingfan, and without waiting to thank Deng Tianao and Deng Lian, he immediately began helping Xu Qingfan recover.
Ninglingzi and the others briefly thanked Deng Tianao and Deng Lian, then turned to study Number Two, who had suddenly appeared. They watched gravely as, under Number Two’s spell, the very ground beneath them started to crack open.
With Master Guanghui’s help, Xu Qingfan finally regained consciousness. As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw the mountains full of zombies!
