Volume 3 Chapter 57: The End (1)

On the southern side of Jiuhua Mountain, where Kylin Mountain lay, the middle-aged scholar stood gazing upward without the slightest change in posture after the group of monsters under his command flew towards Jiuhua Mountain. It seemed as if he could never look enough at Jiuhua Mountain, or perhaps, this was the last time he would see it in this state.

Maybe, there was still a trace of reluctance in his heart?

The dozen or so cultivators around him, some looking human, others like demons, saw his expression and knew he didn’t want to speak much. So they stood quietly, not daring to make a sound.

After a long time, the middle-aged scholar finally slowly withdrew his gaze and a faint smile appeared on his lips. In a gentle tone, he said, "I didn’t expect that after all these years, some remarkable young disciples have indeed appeared in Jiuhua Mountain. Whether it was Zhou Huahai, Zhang Hualing, or Xiao Huazhe, they were not ordinary. It’s truly a shame they died today."

This remark seemed directed at those around him, but it also seemed like he was talking to himself. His tone was full of admiration and regret, yet there was a hint of excitement.

It was unexpected that the middle-aged scholar, who seemed unremarkable in appearance, would be so confident in his words. The "Hua" generation at Jiuhua Mountain is regarded as the backbone of the Jiuhua lineage, with several waves of disciples, yet in the middle-aged scholar’s eyes, they were merely "young disciples of Jiuhua Mountain."

A demon with the appearance of a Sethrak grinned and said, "Hiss… Master, your powers are unmatched, your wisdom unparalleled in the world, hiss… no matter how impressive Zhang Hualing or Zhou Huahai were, they were easily dealt with, weren’t they?"

Hearing this obvious flattery, the middle-aged scholar’s face remained unchanged, showing neither joy nor worry. He simply said, "My people have arrived at Jiuhua Mountain, so I should join in the excitement too."

With that said, the middle-aged scholar didn’t pay attention to the others around him and started flying toward Jiuhua Mountain on his cloud.

Underneath him, his white cloud shimmered with colors, his white robe fluttered in the evening breeze, and with his handsome face and serene yet slightly lonely demeanor, he looked almost like an immortal from afar. Who would have thought he was planning to destroy a whole sect?

His cloud-riding speed seemed slow but was actually fast, appearing to move leisurely but in an instant, leaving others on Kylin Mountain far behind.

Seeing the middle-aged scholar’s actions, the others were slightly taken aback, quickly riding their clouds to follow him towards Jiuhua Mountain.

One of the Sethrak sped up to catch up with the scholar, whispering, "Hiss… Master, Number 41 still hasn’t returned. He has several tasks you personally entrusted to him, hiss… not sure if he’s completed them. Should we wait for him?"

The middle-aged scholar allowed himself a slight, icy smile, lightly tapped his right hand against his left, and said calmly, "If I’m not mistaken, he should have completed those tasks. He’s just using the opportunity to take revenge on his former senior brother, so he probably won’t be able to come back and find me anytime soon."

Although the scholar’s tone was calm, the Sethrak knew that his master was likely truly angry now. To this profound master, a servant should consider completing his tasks as life’s top priority, without any personal biases.

Number 41’s actions clearly violated the scholar’s major taboo, and the habit of the scholar tapping his right hand on his left was a sign of harboring murderous intent.

"It seems the Northern Guard of the ‘Four Snake Guard’ will need a replacement again," thought the Sethrak coldly.

Just as the Sethrak appeared lost in thought, the middle-aged scholar turned to another Sethrak, who had been silent from the beginning, and asked, "Number Seven, did you pass all the information you gathered during the Newcomer Competition to Number 41 as I instructed?"

Number Seven paused, a wave of strong fear suddenly engulfing his heart, yet he tried hard to maintain a calm face as he lowered his head and replied softly, "No."

"So, does Number 41 also not know that Xu Qingfan has already started refining the Wutong branch?"

"Yes."

Upon hearing Number Seven’s words, everyone around felt a shiver run through their bodies, looking at Number Seven as if he were already a dead man.

The middle-aged scholar, however, did not show any special reaction and instead smiled faintly, saying, "That’s good, let Xu Qingfan deal with him, it’ll save you all some trouble."

Although the middle-aged scholar’s smile remained gentle and kind, the words sent a chill through everyone’s hearts.

Ignoring everyone else’s reactions, the middle-aged scholar continued after a pause, "Among the disciples of the ‘Qing’ generation at Jiuhua Mountain, only Xu Qingfan, Jin Qinghan, Feng Qingtian, and Lv Qingshang are notable figures. Although they are not a threat now, if we let them escape this time, they will become a problem in the future. Number Seven, when you reach Jiuhua Mountain, do not concern yourself with anything else. Just join Number 4 and Number 33 to kill those four."

Number Seven’s body trembled slightly, a hint of confusion crossing his ugly, fierce face, but he lacked the courage to object and simply bowed his head in agreement, "Yes."

The other two Sethrak quickly bowed and said to the middle-aged scholar, "Master, rest assured, we will certainly accomplish it."

The middle-aged scholar nodded slightly and turned to continue flying towards Jiuhua Mountain.

Before him, the towering and steep Jiuhua Mountain was now within reach.

…

The successive roars and explosions shattered the original tranquility of the back mountains of Jiuhua, while the battle between Nangong Qingshan and Xu Qingfan continued.

Although Xu Qingfan’s Chomper didn’t cause significant harm to Nangong Qingshan, he felt a faint pain in his body, and his heart was filled with indescribable anger.

Ever since he was transformed by his master, he despised his own ugly appearance but was proud of the power he gained, brimming with confidence. So, when he sought revenge against Xu Qingfan, he came with disdainful eyes and an arrogant attitude.

Nangong Qingshan initially thought that with his current strength, killing Xu Qingfan would be just a matter of moments, but he didn’t expect Xu Qingfan not only to block his attacks continuously but also to catch him off guard, leaving him in a disgraceful state.

"Originally, I wanted to take the easy route and kill you quickly, but now it seems I should entertain you a bit before you die."

Nangong Qingshan glared at Xu Qingfan with a cold tone in his voice.

As he spoke, Nangong Qingshan strode towards Xu Qingfan, expecting Xu Qingfan to be on high alert or flee immediately. However, to his surprise, Xu Qingfan merely glanced at him with disdain, then sat cross-legged on the ground and began to meditate.

Xu Qingfan’s attitude only fueled Nangong Qingshan’s anger even more.

Once he was within thirty feet of Xu Qingfan, Nangong Qingshan said no more. His three snake-like tails lashed out, extending beyond thirty feet, and viciously struck at Xu Qingfan.
