Chapter 247: Making Use of Science
Within a few seconds, the mutated wolfhound jumped out of the newly dug hole and appeared in front of Zhang Mu and the others.
Zhang Mu casually threw a few earth-type beast cores obtained from Long Qi towards the mutated wolfhound, and with a smile, said, “What’s wrong? Suddenly decided to stop working? Hurry up and dig, there will be benefits for you too.”
Busy devouring the beast cores, the mutated wolfhound didn’t immediately respond to Zhang Mu, but instead grumbled a few times. The Obsidian Beetle then informed Zhang Mu, “The stubborn dog has finished digging the vertical passage, it’s about twelve meters deep.”
So fast, it seems I underestimated the connection between the mutated wolfhound and the earth element.
“So, should you finish digging first and then we go over, or should we go together?” Zhang Mu asked, looking at the mutated wolfhound that had finished swallowing.
“It says we don’t need to wait, we can just follow it,” Obsidian Beetle continued, still upset about getting covered in dirt from its kick earlier, “I wonder if it wants us to follow behind and eat dirt.”
Zhang Mu glanced at the mutated wolfhound, not sure how it managed it, but judging from its earlier actions, it seemed like it could come out with the lightest clothes possible.
Not aware of the conversation between Obsidian Beetle and Zhang Mu, the mutated wolfhound let out a proud growl and then leaped back into the cave, disappearing.
“What do you think?” Obsidian Beetle still felt uneasy, having just cleaned off all the dirt from itself and removed the strong earthy smell with the wind element.
Zhang Mu shrugged and said, “What else can we do? Just follow it, it seems pretty confident. We have to trust it, since it’s the easiest one for us to communicate with the earth element here. Why don’t you go instead?”
After hearing Zhang Mu’s words, Obsidian Beetle immediately shrank back to its smaller size, flew to Yuan Rui’s shoulder, and ignored Zhang Mu.
A proud wind-element mutated beast like itself, and Zhang Mu wants it to dig in the dirt? That kind of task should be left to the earth hound.
Zhang Mu carried Yuan Rui and Hao Hao on his back, then jumped down the cave with a mental shield to support their weight. He summoned Blood Lotus, which acted like an octopus, gripping the walls as they descended.
Zhang Mu was fine from the 12-meter drop, but Yuan Rui and Hao Hao couldn’t handle the impact. If Zhang Mu hadn’t taken action, they would have fallen much faster.
Despite the high efficiency of Blood Lotus, with only Zhang Mu’s weight now, it easily guided them down the cliff.
Stepping on a rock, Zhang Mu safely lowered Yuan Rui and Hao Hao from his back like two koalas onto the ground.
Looking up at the light above, Zhang Mu asked Obsidian Beetle, “Do you think mutant beasts might appear in this area? What if they follow us through this passage?”
After some thought, Obsidian Beetle replied, “I’m not sure. The scent I caught along with the hound earlier indicates a large gathering of mutant beasts within 25 miles of Luo Yang City. While the herd is likely awaiting orders and not currently moving, five miles is dangerously close. I can’t guarantee their absence.”
“Let’s seal it, just in case. Can your wind element store natural air?” Zhang Mu suddenly asked Obsidian Beetle on Yuan Rui’s shoulder.
Obsidian Beetle, looking puzzled, answered, “Of course.”
“How much can it store?” Zhang Mu inquired further.
The Obsidian Beetle replied without thinking, “There are quite a lot, but I’m not sure of the exact number. Why are you asking?”
Zhang Mu gave it a look and said, “The tunnel is sealed off, no need to breathe? It’s up to you now, go up and collect some fresh air and come back.”
Ah, so the Obsidian Beetle was being used as an oxygen tank.
The Obsidian Beetle suddenly felt its status lowered by Zhang Mu, but there was no choice. What Zhang Mu said was true. Without oxygen, the tunnel of thirty miles couldn’t be dug by the earth dog all at once.
Urged by Zhang Mu repeatedly, the Obsidian Beetle flew off Yuan Rui’s shoulder and went up the twelve-meter vertical passage again.
When the Obsidian Beetle returned from above, Zhang Mu immediately summoned the Blood Lotus and whipped the outer rock wall with vines. Stones cracked and fell from the walls on both sides, sealing off the entrance to the tunnel where Zhang Mu and the others were going to walk next.
As for the hole above, Zhang Mu couldn’t do anything about it for now.
As they moved forward, suddenly they felt a breeze blowing from behind. Their oxygen-deprived brains also woke up a bit.
It was the Obsidian Beetle releasing the fresh air it had stored just now.
A digger, an oxygen supplier, Zhang Mu felt like he had squeezed out all the functions of his two mutant beasts in a scientific way.
Zhang Mu’s evolver, who really knew how to take care of their beloved mutant beasts, wondered how Zhang Mu’s mutants felt when he commanded them like that.
Looking at the tunnel in front of him, feeling the cool breeze behind him, what Zhang Mu was thinking now was whether they could further develop the use of their earth and wind abilities.
If Obsidian Beetle or mutated wolfhound heard what he was thinking now, they would probably be very angry.
It was like being picked on, one after another!
