Chapter 92: A Delayed Response
“Alright, everyone, go and comprehend well! Also, when you test it, make sure to find an open and unpopulated place to avoid uncontrollable situations that could accidentally harm the tribe members,” Yi Chen waved his hand.
The forty-three Spirit Law Tribe Members quickly bowed and left.
They eagerly rushed back to their homes to practice the Chaos Technique or to understand sword intent and the power of the laws.
“Tribe Leader! You’ve worked hard all day. Should I arrange some food for you?” the high priest quickly approached with a flattering smile.
“I asked you to instruct the two priests to recruit disciples and send them to the four armies. Do you have a plan?” Yi Chen inquired.
“This… Is the Tribe Leader planning to proclaim the idea that the leader is a god among the four armies?” the high priest cautiously replied.
“Is there a more detailed plan?” Yi Chen did not confirm or deny.
“Uh… I have thought of a plan, but…” The high priest’s forehead began to sweat; he hesitated and stammered, unsure of how to respond.
Throughout the day, he had been pondering the deeper meaning behind Yi Chen’s request.
The reason was not hard to guess, but Yi Chen did not mention it on the way. After meeting with the Spirit Law Tribe Members, he suddenly made this decision.
The meaning behind it left the high priest feeling a chill, making him hesitant to speak freely.
“Speak!” Yi Chen said coldly.
After biting his lip, the high priest ultimately made a choice.
He felt that it was better to seem incompetent rather than falsely accuse the tribe leader. After all, even if he guessed wrong and interpreted Yi Chen’s thoughts maliciously, he would still be voicing them after receiving Yi Chen’s directive.
This is entirely different from speaking ill behind Yi Chen’s back or maliciously slandering him to others.
In his opinion, with Yi Chen’s capacity to accept people, he wouldn’t blame him for such a trivial matter.
On the other hand, lacking ability and being unable to read Yi Chen’s thoughts at all meant that there were plenty of people in the Flame Mountain Tribe who could take his place.
Carefully peeking at Yi Chen’s expression, he spoke, “I plan to have the two priests quickly select disciples. Within a month, we will send them to the four armies.”
“Then, we will promote that the tribe leader is the only true god in the world. Only with a devout heart and by drinking the divine water can one… can one…”
Seeing Yi Chen’s expression remain calm, the high priest took a leap of faith:
“Only then can they bathe in divine grace and receive the protection of the true god, ensuring their left arm does not decay or wither.”
“When it approaches three months, I will announce in my name that I have developed the divine water.”
Yi Chen patted the high priest’s shoulder and soared into the air, flying towards the stone house at the end of the valley.
Whoosh!
The high priest let out a long sigh of relief and couldn’t help but wipe the sweat from his forehead.
He had gambled correctly.
He had escaped another crisis!
Holding great power while controlling the fate of the tribe members felt like walking on thin ice, leaving him exhausted.
One wrong step could lead to having nothing at all.
Moreover, wielding power allowed him to know some hidden secrets and information that ordinary people did not.
Some secrets and information could bring enormous benefits and advantages.
However, some could pose deadly risks.
‘I hope the tribe leader doesn’t cross the bridge and destroy it because I know too much. He could easily find an excuse to eliminate me in the future.’
The high priest racked his brain, mulling over his thoughts, but found no solution. He had no choice but to place all his hopes on Yi Chen’s character.
Stepping down and letting someone else take over was out of the question.
…
In the live room, trillions of viewers watched, all with their mouths agape, staring blankly.
In their hearts, countless fierce beasts roared and charged.
The entire galaxy fell into a seemingly quiet yet tumultuous emotional state.
Bang!
Someone crashed their head hard against the wall, leaving a hole while their head bled profusely.
Yet in that moment, their mind went blank.
Someone with a strange expression asked in the live room:
“So, are we all being played by Yi Chen? Evolving into higher-level life forms with no side effects or costs? Or at least, not at this stage?”
“All right! Yi Chen just wanted to give these Spirit Law Tribe Members a warning and strengthen his control over them.”
“But in the end, we all fell into the trap, confused and unsettled.”
In the entire live room, everyone felt like crying but had no tears left.
What the hell!
This isn’t how you play with people.
This isn’t how you torment people.
Yet, being played and tormented to the point of suffering intensely and feeling anxious, they had nowhere to voice their grievances.
Because Yi Chen had no idea of humanity’s existence; he was only targeting those Spirit Law Tribe Members.
They had completely jumped into the pit that Yi Chen dug for them, following the Spirit Law Tribe Members willingly.
Some couldn’t help but complain, "Where are those self-proclaimed smart guys? They should all line up for a beating! Every day, we see you criticize the high priest for not being clever enough, getting fooled by the fake heavy criminals."
"In the end, the high priest could see Yi Chen’s intentions and thoughts, but none of you smart people noticed!"
Someone explained helplessly, “I just rewatched the video. Yi Chen did this completely on a whim.”
“When he reached the center of the valley, most of the Spirit Law Tribe Members were filled with excitement and urgency, lacking awe and respect for him.”
“That’s just hindsight!”
“This isn’t hindsight; it’s the reason for Yi Chen’s sudden decision.”
“These Spirit Law Tribe Members have fought and slain countless fierce beasts for years, basking in the admiration and respect of their warriors. Their strength continued to grow, and it’s natural for them to become complacent, thinking all their achievements were due to their innate talent.”
“At the same time, because they hadn’t encountered Yi Chen’s power for a long time, their respect and awe for him diminished.”
“That’s precisely why Yi Chen decided to give them a harsh wake-up call.”
“The high priest guessed that completely from the perspective of an outsider!”
“It’s just like how many of us can see the layout and plans of those fake heavy criminals, yet the high priest remains completely fooled. If we were in the high priest’s position, we would only fare worse.”
“When Yi Chen emerged, we, like the Spirit Law Tribe Members, only thought about learning the new skills quickly. Who would pay any attention to the mindset of the Spirit Law Tribe Members?”
“Who would think that Yi Chen suddenly stopped to ask the high priest about the other two priests’ situations and arranged for them to recruit disciples and deploy the four armies had any deeper meaning?”
“At that time, we were all waiting for the new skills to be taught. The most we could do was guess that Yi Chen planned to strengthen his control over the four armies through divine power.”
“Once we learned that studying the Spirit Law version of the Chaos Technique would cost us an arm, everyone hesitated over whether or not to learn.”
“Plus, since Yi Chen had practiced the Spirit Law version of the Chaos Technique for less than three months, and there was a reasonable explanation for the cost of evolving into a higher life form along with examples from Various Races, who would connect it to Yi Chen’s earlier arrangements?”
“Only the high priest! His talent is low, and his power doesn’t come from strength. He also doesn’t know that the higher the realm, the higher the lifespan cap.”
“He only wants to maintain his current power, so he has to rack his brain thinking about the tasks Yi Chen assigned to him.”
“Different interests, positions, and thought processes led to the high priest being the only outsider.”
“Yi Chen’s third class lasted a full day and night, so it’s only natural for him to guess Yi Chen’s thoughts.”
“Okay! Still, evolving into a higher-level life form without any side effects and not needing to sacrifice an arm is an enormous unexpected joy; that’s a good thing.”
Everyone gave a bitter smile.
“True, but then again, Yi Chen is quite ruthless. Just because the Spirit Law Tribe Members’ awe for him diminished, he hit them so hard.”
“He only wanted to give them a scare for a few months. Not truly modifying the skill so that the Chaos Technique would cause practitioners to lose an arm is already generous.”
Someone anxiously remarked, “If mere diminished awe can bring such punishment, if Yi Chen knew that all of humanity was secretly learning his new skills, his first thought would probably be to make us pay a huge price.”
“I think the Federal Parliament should pass a bill to have statues of Yi Chen built on all life planets.”
“That way, if one day Yi Chen is truly welcomed back to the federation, seeing his statue in every place where humanity resides in the galaxy will probably appease him.”
“Honestly, there’s no need for everyone to worry too much. Even if Yi Chen is welcomed back to the federation, it’ll likely be after he has exhausted his talent.”
“By then, we won’t need him to teach us new skills anymore, so we wouldn’t have to be concerned about him pulling any tricks with new techniques.”
“Of course, as our greatest genius, he made unmatched contributions to all of humanity. To calm his dissatisfaction and anger, we must compensate him as much as possible.”
“I think we could name a life planet after him and amend the law to eliminate nobility in the federation.”
“Let him become the only noble since the founding of the human federation, designating an entire life planet as his territory and giving him all tax rights.”
“That’s a good idea, but I’m not sure if the Federal Parliament will do it. Building a statue is already elevating Yi Chen to mythic status. Changing the laws around nobility will have astonishing negative effects.”
In the live room, everyone began to discuss what could be done to appease Yi Chen’s dissatisfaction and anger if he were truly welcomed back to the human federation one day.
But all their proposals and thoughts were based on what all of humanity could accept.
