Su Ran called for Miao Yue and instructed her to deliver a letter to Li Zhong.
When Li Zhong received the letter, his face was full of surprise and disbelief. “This letter is from the young master to the eldest young master?”
“Yes!” Miao Yue was not surprised by Li Zhong’s reaction. She knew that Chen Fei did not think highly of Chen Yang. He had even once told her that he had no such elder brother.
“Li Zhong, what exactly is the grudge between your eldest young master and my young master?” Miao Yue asked with a curious expression.
Hearing this, Li Zhong suddenly realized something and quickly laughed it off. “Miao Yue, as servants, we must not gossip about our masters’ affairs.”
“How is this gossip? We are one family now, and my lady has the right to know the truth,” Miao Yue argued.
“That may be true, but the truth should come from the young master or the eldest young master. It is not my place as a servant to reveal it,” Li Zhong replied before shutting the courtyard door, refusing to let Miao Yue in.
Miao Yue was furious but had no choice. Her curiosity about the conflict between Chen Yang and Chen Fei only deepened.
It wasn’t just Miao Yue who was curious—Su Ran was also intrigued.
Instead of heading to the Huangling Mine in the afternoon, Su Ran dragged Chen Fei for a drinking celebration, hoping to get him drunk and extract some information.
After all, he had something to ask of him, and knowing one’s allies and enemies would make things easier.
But he never expected that Chen Fei had an astonishing alcohol tolerance. Instead of getting Chen Fei drunk, he ended up getting himself drunk.
“Nie Que?”
“Is that a person’s name?”
Drunk, Su Ran kept murmuring the name ‘Nie Que,’ making Chen Fei, who had just started to believe that their marriage could turn real, feel a wave of cold disappointment.
“Nie Que?”
“No woman would have such a name.”
“How many secrets is she hiding?”
“Am I just fooling myself?”
Chen Fei carried the sleeping Su Ran to the bed but did not take advantage of the situation.
“I should focus more on my cultivation. Only by becoming strong can I control my own destiny.”
Thinking of Qin Shuang, a chilling sensation swept through Chen Fei’s heart. It was a pain he could never forget.
Seeing that Su Ran was sound asleep, Chen Fei entered her secret chamber.
Su Ran’s chamber had a Cold Ice Bed, which was the best place for cultivation for someone like Chen Fei, who lacked rare treasures.
Other spiritual practitioners might not be able to withstand the bed’s chilling energy, but for Chen Fei and Su Ran, such coldness was nourishment.
The night passed without incident.
The Next Morning
As usual, Su Ran left the Su residence early for the Huangling Mine.
The moment he left, Chen Fei received his first visitor since moving into the Su family’s wedding chamber.
Chen Fei had expected it to be Liu Yunyan knocking on the door, but to his surprise, it was Su Ran’s cousin, Su Wan.
“Su Wan…” Chen Fei looked at her in surprise.
“Brother-in-law, you recognized my voice?” Su Wan’s voice carried a hint of pleasant surprise.
“Su Wan, why are you looking for me so early in the morning?” Chen Fei, of course, did not recognize her voice, but his Spirit Snake Sense allowed him to perceive her.
“Brother-in-law, are you really going to let me stand outside and talk? Won’t you invite me in?” Su Wan asked gently.
Through his Spirit Snake Sense, Chen Fei not only saw Su Wan but also noticed Su Teng lurking nearby like a thief, along with several servants and maids behind him.
One group in front, another behind, acting suspiciously. Given that Su Xiangwu had always coveted the Su family’s leadership position, and that he had never interacted with Su Wan before, her sudden visit, along with her overly sweet words, made Chen Fei wary.
“Su Wan, you came at the wrong time. Su Ran isn’t home. I wouldn’t dare let you in alone; I wouldn’t want to ruin your reputation,” Chen Fei said, blocking the door.
“Brother-in-law, we are acting honorably. What is there to be afraid of?” Su Wan said softly. “Besides, everyone knows that Su Ran only married you as a shield. She never intended to be with you for real.”
“Brother-in-law, even though you cannot cultivate, your dance at the City Lord’s banquet made you famous. Do you know how many young women now see you as their dream lover?”
“Since yesterday, I have already received requests from eight sisters, asking to meet you to discuss the art of dance.”
Su Wan flattered him, blending truth with falsehood, her soft voice carrying an alluring charm. Even though Chen Fei knew she had ulterior motives, her words still felt pleasant to hear.
“Sister, I may be blind, but I am not foolish.”
“Moreover, Su Ran is your cousin, and I am your brother-in-law. We are married under heaven and earth. No matter what others say, that fact cannot be changed.”
“Just tell me what you want.”
Chen Fei had no intention of wasting time with Su Wan. He still needed to go out and find resources for his cultivation.
Su Wan didn’t expect Chen Fei to be so unmoved by her advances, not even letting her step inside.
“Brother-in-law, I am also a dance enthusiast, and I greatly admire your talent.”
“Could you teach me the dance from yesterday?”
Su Wan looked shy as she took the initiative to request a lesson. She refused to believe that with her beauty, she couldn’t captivate Chen Fei.
“I already said—the dance was a gift for Su Ran. If you want to learn it, you’ll have to ask her permission.”
With that, Chen Fei moved to close the door.
Faced with repeated rejection, Su Wan frowned, suppressing her anger. If not for her uncle’s orders, she would never have humbled herself before a blind, non-cultivating man.
“Chen Fei, you’re forcing me.”
With that, Su Wan suddenly forced the door open, rushed into the courtyard, and tore her own clothes, exposing a large area of her fair skin.
Chen Fei had expected her to be up to no good, but he never imagined she would resort to such a despicable tactic.
“You have two choices,” Su Wan said with a smirk. “One, cooperate with me. I will ensure your wealth and prosperity in Huangwu City and even marry you to the eldest daughter of the Huang family, allowing you to establish your own household.”
“Two, I sacrifice my reputation and claim that you took advantage of me while teaching me to dance. My brother and the servants outside will catch you in the act.”
Su Wan’s gentle facade vanished, replaced by a cold, ruthless expression.
Chen Fei couldn’t help but chuckle and said, “Su Wan, this is your way of threatening me?”
“Yes,” Su Wan replied smugly. “You have no choice.”
“Ridiculous!” Chen Fei scoffed. “You forget—you are an eighth-rank Spirit Master, while I am just a blind cripple. If I tried anything, who would believe it?”
“That wouldn’t be believable—unless I pair it with this.” Su Wan pulled out a vial of Soft Bone Powder and sneered, “Once I’m drugged and defenseless, you taking advantage of me becomes entirely plausible.”
