“Can you represent your elder brother?” Ye Bufan forced himself to stay calm as he returned the Silver Moon Curved Blade.
Chen Fei chuckled and said, “Since my elder brother entrusted me with this token, what do you think?”
“As for the agreement, I can’t make that decision. You can have your elder brother discuss it directly with my father.” Ye Bufan frowned. “However, regarding today’s matter, for your elder brother’s sake, I will let it slide.”
“Alright, then I’ll go back and tell my elder brother how your City Lord’s Mansion bullies his younger brother and sister-in-law.” Chen Fei turned to leave as he finished speaking.
Ye Bufan’s expression darkened. He had originally seized Su Ran’s weakness to force the proud woman to bow her head.
But now, a man he had always looked down upon, a so-called useless blind man, had turned the tables and caught the City Lord’s Mansion by its weak spot.
If Chen Fei really went to complain to Chen Yang, considering how Chen Yang had suppressed the entire Qin family single-handedly, even if he couldn’t shake the City Lord’s Mansion, Ye Bufan would still have to face his father’s harsh reprimand.
Not only was Ye Bufan flustered, but Ye Gulong and Ye Chunyan were also panicking.
“Chen Fei, what do you want?” Ye Bufan frowned, forced to soften his stance.
Chen Fei ignored him and instead turned to Su Ran. “Wife, what do you think?”
Su Ran hadn’t expected things to shift so quickly.
“The Huangling Mine is my family’s ancestral property. It must never be sold!” she declared without hesitation.
“Miss Su, to be honest, I am not the one insisting on buying the Huangling Mine. It is your Su family that is determined to sell it. Even if I don’t take over, someone else will,” Ye Bufan explained.
Su Ran fell silent. Ye Bufan wasn’t wrong. The core issue wasn’t the City Lord’s Mansion—it was her own family.
“In any case, your City Lord’s Mansion must not be the one to take over.” Su Ran stood firm.
“Fine, I’ll give Miss Su some face.” Ye Bufan gritted his teeth and agreed. “Our City Lord’s Mansion will not take over the Huangling Mine.”
“Miss Su, I still have things to do, so I’ll be taking my leave.”
Holding back his fury, Ye Bufan turned to leave.
This was supposed to be his territory, yet he had been humiliated by a blind good-for-nothing.
“Wait!”
Just as he was about to leave, Chen Fei called out to him.
“Chen Fei, don’t push your luck!” Ye Bufan’s eyes were full of anger at being stopped.
Chen Fei acted as if he didn’t notice and smiled faintly. “Young City Lord, are you sure you want to break all ties with me?”
“Say what you want. Just don’t go too far!” Ye Bufan hesitated for a moment before conceding. He didn’t have the courage to openly oppose the future Patrol Envoy.
“It’s nothing extreme. Just now, several people insulted me and Su Ran. I want them to slap themselves and apologize on the spot.” Chen Fei’s tone was calm.
In the past, he had suffered repeated humiliation, his wounds torn open time and again. Did they really think he was just a waste to be mocked at will?
“Young City Lord…”
The young elites who had previously supported Ye Bufan turned pale. None of them had expected this disaster to fall upon them.
Ye Bufan clenched his fists, his muscles twitching in rage. He was on the verge of exploding.
A so-called blind cripple had repeatedly trampled on his dignity and tested his limits in his own venue.
Yet, when Chen Fei took out the highest-grade token from Silver Moon Academy again, it was like a sharp blade stabbing into Ye Bufan’s heart, making him shudder involuntarily.
“Do it!”
Ye Bufan practically spat out the words through gritted teeth.
“No!”
One of the young elites refused, unwilling to suffer such humiliation.
“You think you have a choice here?” Ye Bufan slapped him across the face, venting all the humiliation he had suffered onto the young man.
“Hurry up and apologize, or don’t blame me for being ruthless!” Ye Bufan shouted, sending a shiver down many people’s spines.
The authority of the City Lord’s Mansion was absolute in Yellow Mist City. If not for Chen Fei wielding the future Patrol Envoy’s token, Ye Bufan could have done as he pleased.
The young nobles who had tried to curry favor with Ye Bufan were now filled with regret, but they lacked the strength to resist.
“Young Master Chen, I’m sorry!”
“Young Master Chen, I spoke out of turn!”
One by one, apologies rang out, followed by the sound of slaps.
Chen Fei took Su Ran’s hand and led her back to their seats, casually discussing the decorations in the hall as if nothing had happened.
Meanwhile, outside the hall, Ye Bufan stormed out, his anger barely contained. He smashed his fist against a stone table, shattering it into dust.
“Utter humiliation!”
Ye Bufan roared with fury.
“Young City Lord, please don’t act recklessly!” Ye Gulong was alarmed and quickly tried to calm him down. “Chen Fei has the backing of the future Patrol Envoy. We must not provoke him unless absolutely necessary.”
“Young City Lord, we still have our plan, don’t we?” Ye Chunyan reminded him, worried that Ye Bufan would do something impulsive that could jeopardize the City Lord’s Mansion.
“That’s right. As long as Su Ran wears the cloak laced with the Heart-Linking Gu poison, no matter what, she and Chen Fei will both be utterly disgraced. In the end, we will still be the ones laughing!” Ye Bufan nodded, his eyes gleaming with malice. His affection for Su Ran had completely twisted into something else.
“Cousin, go to the storage and check on the Heart-Linking Gu poison. Make sure nothing goes wrong,” Ye Bufan instructed Ye Chunyan carefully.
“Rest assured, Young City Lord. Su Ran and Chen Fei dared to humiliate you today. Before the day is over, they will understand the unshakable authority of the City Lord’s Mansion,” Ye Chunyan assured him.
Back in the hall, Su Ran was unaware of the sinister plot unfolding against her. Her mind was preoccupied with the fact that the Huangling Mine was about to be sold by her own family.
“Chen Fei, can your elder brother really be trusted?” She still couldn’t believe that the man she had picked as a mere shield kept surprising her.
“Absolutely.” Chen Fei nodded.
“The patriarch must have encountered some trouble. Otherwise, my uncle and the others wouldn’t dare to sell the Huangling Mine.” Su Ran gritted her teeth in frustration.
“If you need anything, just say the word,” Chen Fei said.
“What can you even do?” Su Ran scoffed. “Only your elder brother can help with this. After the celebration, can you arrange a meeting with him for me?”
“I know this might be a burden for you, but I have no one else to turn to,” she added, feeling somewhat guilty.
It was clear that Su Ran still believed there was some hidden conflict between Chen Fei and Chen Yang, which was why he refused to acknowledge their relationship publicly.
She knew that Chen Fei had only revealed the Silver Moon token to help her out of the situation, yet now she was asking him to approach Chen Yang again, putting him in a difficult position.
Chen Fei, however, was secretly delighted.
Earlier, he had deliberately called her “wife” instead of “Miss Su,” expecting her to resist or reject the title. Yet, to his surprise, she hadn’t objected.
