Chapter 7: Slaying the Thousand Mountain Realm
The Northern Docks of Qianshan City, Clear River Gang Headquarters
Xu Hai clasped his hands together. “Mister Wu, the three days are up. Please, follow me and claim the Luo father and son’s Tongtian Bone.”
A broad smile lit up his face; his mood couldn’t be better.
“Report!”
A gang member rushed in. “Someone outside claims to be Luo Guan of the Luo family. He seeks an audience with the gang leader.”
Xu Hai’s brows knitted before twisting into a cold sneer. “Bring him in.”
For the past three days, he hadn’t been idle, keeping a close eye on the Luo family’s movements.
The Luo brothers had been scrambling to sell or mortgage their assets. With the Clear River Gang deliberately spreading rumors and other clans conspiring to suppress the prices, Xu Hai had quietly pocketed a small fortune.
The Luo family—there was no way they could scrape together ten thousand taels of gold!
He’d even worried the brat might run off, but instead, the boy walked right up to their doorstep.
Before long, Luo Guan strode in.
Xu Hai smirked faintly. “Young Master Luo, are you here to deliver the money?”
“Yes,” Luo Guan said evenly. His gaze slid toward Mister Wu. “Good. That makes things easier.”
From his sleeve, he produced a stack of gold notes. “Ten thousand taels in gold. If Leader Xu has no objections, hand over the contract for the bone.”
“What?!”
Xu Hai snatched the notes and examined them carefully. They were real—ten thousand taels! His face darkened instantly.
He had been certain the Luo family couldn’t possibly pay. It was only because Luo Guan had even staked his own Tongtian Bone that Xu Hai had agreed to this deal.
Yet now, the boy had actually produced the full sum. He had miscalculated!
“Purple Cloud Pavilion is known for its integrity,” Luo Guan said loudly. “And Leader Xu’s word carries weight. Surely, you won’t go back on your promise, will you?”
This brat—damn him!
Seeing Mister Wu’s cool, assessing glance, Xu Hai ground his teeth so hard his jaw ached. “Bring the contract!”
Someone hurried over with the document. Luo Guan checked it thoroughly, then struck a flint and burned it to ashes on the spot.
The sight made Xu Hai’s eyelids twitch violently.
Luo Guan cupped his hands politely. “The matter is settled. I’ll take my leave.”
Mister Wu said flatly, “Since the contract is void, I’ll be on my way as well.” He rose and departed.
The Grand Elder ground his teeth. “Leader, we’re just going to let this go? But we already agreed…”
Xu Hai silenced him with a sharp wave. “If the Luo family really had that much gold, would they have let themselves be humiliated and forced to sell off their holdings for pennies? That boy is hiding a huge secret.”
His eyes gleamed cold and sharp. “Grand Elder, take some men. Bring him back.”
Outside the docks, Luo Zhenshan and the others walked with heavy steps.
For the past two days, they’d been running themselves ragged, selling and pawning off properties, yet no matter what they did, they were still far from raising the full ten thousand taels.
The deadline had arrived, and none of them knew what fate awaited them.
Then, a familiar figure appeared ahead.
Luo Zhenshan’s expression changed. “Luo Guan? What are you doing here?”
The men beside him wore clear looks of displeasure. If not for this brat, they wouldn’t be in such dire straits. It wasn’t just that he’d brought disaster upon them, he’d even dared to step onto the Clear River Gang’s turf.
Had he done something foolish again?
That was exactly what Luo Zhenshan thought. “You went to see Xu Hai?”
Reading their faces, Luo Guan understood immediately. “No need to worry, Uncle. I’ve redeemed Father’s bone contract and burned it on the spot.”
“The matter is completely resolved.”
Luo Zhenshan’s eyes went wide. “How… how did you manage that?”
“It’s a long story,” Luo Guan replied. “I need to leave the city for a while. I’ll explain everything when I return.” With that, he clasped his hands in farewell and strode away.
“This…” Luo Zhenshan and the others stared after him, stunned.
“Fifth Elder,” Luo Zhenshan snapped, “go find out if what he said is true.”
The Fifth Elder hurried off and returned shortly after, his face a picture of disbelief.
Seeing that expression, Luo Zhenshan’s heart finally steadied. “It’s true…” He drew in a long breath. “Let’s go home.”
Meanwhile, Luo Guan left Jiangning City straightaway, a cold smile tugging at his lips as he stepped into the dense forest.
Whoosh—
Whoosh—
Several figures dropped down, blocking his path.
The Grand Elder stepped forward. “Young Master Luo, you left in quite a rush. The Leader sent me to invite you to stay with us for a few days.”
“And if I refuse?” Luo Guan asked calmly.
“Then you’ll have to suffer a little,” the elder said coldly, raising his hand. “Take him!”
Several men lunged at once.
With a casual swing of his arm, Luo Guan sent one flying.
Crack! Crack!
The man’s chest caved in with a sickening crunch; he wouldn’t be getting up again.
Striding forward, Luo Guan cut through them like a scythe through straw. In the blink of an eye, the Clear River men lay dead at his feet.
“Hundred-Man Realm…” the Grand Elder breathed, his old eyes flashing with a mix of shock and greed.
“A waste who failed three bone-forgings,” he muttered, voice sharp with hunger, “and in such a short time, he’s reached the Hundred-Man stage. Not only that, he can casually produce ten thousand taels in gold. The Leader was right. You’re hiding a tremendous secret.”
His fist clenched, and he launched a strike. “But this ends now!”
Boom!
A wave of power erupted—pure Thousand-Mountain Realm might.
“Good timing!” Luo Guan growled, eyes alight with excitement. He’d been itching to test the limits of his strength.
He surged forward without a hint of fear, fist meeting fist.
Boom!
The impact rang like thunder. Luo Guan staggered back, blood surging chaotically in his chest, his face paling.
Across from him, the Grand Elder had also been forced a step back, his expression stunned.
“You… you actually have such strength!”
Luo Guan was only a hair weaker than him.
But Luo Guan was just a youth who’d only recently tempered his bones. The Grand Elder had cultivated for decades—there was simply no comparison.
If the boy was given more time…
No. He had to die here, now.
“Die!” the Grand Elder snarled. He stomped the ground, launching himself forward like a beast.
Calming his surging blood with the Twelve Imperial Swords of the Great Wilderness technique, Luo Guan steadied himself. Finding no real injury, his confidence surged.
“Old man, you’re not enough to kill me!”
In a flash, they clashed again.
A Thousand-Mountain Realm powerhouse’s fists and feet carried the force of a thousand catties. Every blow split the earth, every step shattered thick trunks.
Two human beasts, locked in a savage brawl, turning the forest into chaos.
Though Luo Guan was being pressed back, the Twelve Imperial Swords of the Great Wilderness worked wonders in recovery. His blood and qi surged endlessly, his strength only growing fiercer with every exchange.
The Grand Elder, on the other hand, was past his prime. Age had dulled his body, and his stamina no longer rebounded as swiftly as it once had.
The longer they fought, the more alarmed he became.
Not good. This brat’s momentum is like a rising tide. If this continues, I’ll lose for sure!
With a guttural growl, the Grand Elder’s eyes turned blood-red.
Boom!
His aura exploded, surging to the peak of the Thousand-Mountain Realm. Bones and flesh cracked and swelled, his frame growing visibly larger.
“Brat,” he snarled, voice hoarse with killing intent, “you should be honored to die by my trump card!”
His fist came down like a mountain, the air screaming under the weight of six thousand catties of force.
Luo Guan’s face remained impassive. For an old monster who’d lived for decades, it was only natural to have hidden cards.
But… he had his own trump card too.
He raised his hand, fingers closing in a firm grip.
Hum…
With a sharp resonance, a faint sword shadow materialized between his fingers.
It was as fragile as mist, as thin as smoke—one stray breeze could have scattered it.
And yet, from that insubstantial edge radiated a terror that made one’s soul tremble.
“Cut!”
Luo Guan swung down hard.
Pfft!
A dull sound. The Grand Elder froze where he stood, eyes wide, pupils contracting with disbelief and terror.
Thud!
His head hit the ground, a fountain of blood arcing three feet high.
Luo Guan staggered, chest heaving as he sucked in deep breaths. His face had gone pale; wielding the Twelve Imperial Swords of the Great Wilderness drained him terribly.
“This sword… it’s powerful,” he muttered bitterly to himself, “but it can only be used as a last resort. I can’t afford to summon it lightly.”
Feeling the hollow emptiness in his core, Luo Guan allowed himself a wry smile.
After resting until some strength returned, he quickly searched the bodies and dumped them all over the cliff.
By the following night, the beasts would erase every trace.
Xu Hai was a master of the Myriad Layers Realm—far beyond Luo Guan’s current reach. All he could do now was buy himself more time.
Once everything was cleaned up, he found a mountain spring, washed thoroughly, and took a different route back to the city.
The next two days passed in eerie calm.
Luo Guan didn’t know how long the death of the Grand Elder could remain hidden, but the uncertainty only drove him to train even harder.
After Luo Zhenyang finally awoke, he had a brief talk with Luo Zhenshan and the others about the canceled bone contract. Beyond that, no one asked any more questions.
