Chapter 23: Iron Arrow Ship
This is the Firefly I released!
Wang Yu opened his eyes wide, staring intently at the flame before him, and he felt no heat at his fingertip, while his internal magical power suddenly diminished significantly.
This spell consumes more magical power than expected; with his Qi Refining Stage Level 2 skills, he could only manage to cast it five or six times at most. But this tiny flame likely does not hold much power.
Wang Yu thought this and puffed up his cheeks, then blew hard at the flame.
‘Whoosh’
The flame swayed at his fingertips but was not easily blown out.
He moved his fingers slightly, and the flame danced a bit, as if it had some invisible connection with his fingers.
Wang Yu nodded and glanced around the room, finally settling his gaze on a worn-out wooden chair.
He flicked his finger, and the flame jumped out, becoming a small red light that landed on the wooden chair.
"Sizzle"
The chair was instantly engulfed in roaring flames, turning into a large pile of fire, and in just a few breaths, the flames faded, leaving only black ashes behind.
The Spell Pattern mark in the sea of divine sense also flickered and disappeared.
Wang Yu was stunned, and his mouth could not close for a long time.
Is this the power that "flame" should have?
He jumped out of bed in disbelief, walked to the black ashes, and poked at them with his toes. After confirming it was correct, he felt like his understanding of the world had been turned upside down.
Wang Yu quickly walked outside to the yard. After casually looking around, he found a new target: a rusty iron rod sticking diagonally into the ground nearby.
He held up one hand, muttered a spell, and unsurprisingly failed to cast it twice in a row, which made him grimace for a while. But on the third try, he finally managed to gather the Spell Imprint successfully.
The flame appeared before him again, and with a touch of his finger, it gently floated down onto the iron rod.
"Sizzle"
The same fierce flames rolled, and under his watch, the iron rod visibly turned red and soft. When the fire disappeared, only a pool of lava-like red iron liquid was left behind.
Wang Yu took just two steps closer and felt a wave of intense heat rush toward him, and he was filled with shock.
This "Firefly" is not an ordinary fire at all, but an extremely high-temperature flame that can melt gold and stones. This doesn’t quite match what is described in "Introduction to Spells."
Do all magic tricks have such power?
Wang Yu felt a bit confused.
He wanted to try the Firefly spell again, but unfortunately, he failed once more. He had very little magic power left and could only go back home to practice Breathing Exercises to recover.
In the following days, Wang Yu practiced the Firefly Technique repeatedly.
He found that after successfully forming the Spell Imprint for the first time, the chances of successfully casting the spell increased a lot. He could manage to cast it successfully every two or three attempts, and even when he failed, the backlash was not as painful as before. In fact, it became easier, as if his divine sense was gradually adapting to the spell’s backlash impact.
During this time, he also tried to use Firefly on different targets and even attempted to incorporate it into real combat. He discovered that although Firefly was powerful, it floated lightly and didn’t move quickly. Its range was limited; even with all his might, he could only send it about ten feet away, making it easy for opponents to dodge.
Despite these shortcomings, Wang Yu was quite satisfied with Firefly as his first learned spell.
Next, he needed to master this spell more skillfully and quickly learn the other two spells. With three magic tricks under his belt, he could barely consider himself a ‘fake cultivator.’
This made him look forward to the other two magic tricks with great excitement.
But on that day, while he was sitting on his bed doing breathing exercises, a low humming sound suddenly came from behind him, sharp and piercing.
He was startled and quickly turned around, rushing into the room. There, above a package at the head of his bed, a blue paper crane was spinning in the air, glowing faintly with white light.
Before Wang Yu could react, the paper crane "whooshed" out of the room, but he quickly caught it in his hand, being careful not to hold it too tightly, afraid of breaking it.
It was time to board the ship!
Wang Yu was overjoyed and suddenly understood what was happening.
He hurriedly pulled a piece of ordinary thread from the package at his bedside, quickly wrapping it around the paper crane, while tying the other end to his wrist, and then he released the crane, letting it swirl around him within a yard’s distance.
Then, he strapped the package from the bedside to his back, took out a dagger and a sword from under the bed, using the soft sword as a belt around his waist, and inserting the long dagger into a black sheath on his back, he rushed out of the room, heading straight for the nearby carriage.
…
More than twenty miles west of Yellow Stone City, beside a wide river, a huge boat about seventy or eighty yards long was docked next to a seemingly simple pier.
On the pier, some barefoot sailors were carrying wooden boxes and burlap sacks of different sizes onto the ship, while over twenty different-style horse carts were parked nearby, and several people in various clothing were boarding the ship.
At that moment, a small cart pulled by a donkey came trotting along a dirt road toward the pier.
In front of the cart sat a young man about seventeen or eighteen years old, dressed in blue and carrying a long knife; it was Wang Yu rushing over.
Seeing the busy scene at the pier, Wang Yu was momentarily stunned, but quickly parked the cart nearby and took a package off the cart to walk over.
On the pier, an older man in a grey robe, about fifty years old, with messy short hair, approached holding a large brown smoking pipe.
"Are there any other people boarding the ship? Show me your ticket," the old man said after taking a puff from his pipe, glancing at the paper crane on Wang Yu’s wrist and exhaling a cloud of yellow smoke.
The smoke billowed towards Wang Yu’s face, bringing a strong choking sensation.
"Sir, I am the only one boarding," Wang Yu replied calmly, quickly grabbing the paper crane from his wrist and handing it over.
"Hmm, this is indeed the ticket to board the ship. Remember, fighting on board is not allowed. Whoever causes trouble will be thrown off the ship. Li Laosan, take this young man to Room C13 and inform him of the ship’s rules." The old man in the gray robe checked the paper crane, placed it in his pocket, then waved his hand, calling over a barefoot crew member from the dock. After giving him a few instructions, he turned and walked away.
"Young sir, please follow me," said the barefoot crew member, who had a dark red face and looked about twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old. After bowing to see the old man off, he smiled at Wang Yu.
"Is Elder Feng really a person from the Treasure Pavilion and very powerful on the ship?" Wang Yu asked cautiously as he followed Li Laosan toward the giant ship.
"Elder Feng is the guardian Immortal Master of the Iron Arrow Ship, so he indeed has the most power. Just remember, you can offend anyone on the ship, but do not offend Elder Feng. Otherwise, he really will throw you into the river to feed the fish," Li Laosan said with a smile.
"I see. How long will it take for the ship to reach Wu Kingdom?" Wang Yu nodded and asked, his eyes drawn to the large ship not far ahead.
This giant ship was about five or six stories high, with three decks on the main deck. It was completely black and had a faint metallic sheen. The material was unknown, and the outer hull was decorated with some unknown silver patterns.
"The Iron Arrow Ship is a newly built magic ship from our Treasure Pavilion. It is much faster than previous magic ships and can reach Wu Kingdom’s Tong Prefecture in just a month. This ship not only has an Immortal Master on board, but also many new-style magic crossbows, plus the Soul Banner for protection. So, you do not need to worry about safety at all. Once you are on the ship, you will have your own room, and when it’s time to eat, someone will bring food to your room…" Li Laosan said while leading the way, chatting continuously as he brought Wang Yu onto the giant ship.
Once on the deck of the giant ship, Wang Yu truly felt the size of the ship. He had to tilt his head all the way back to see the highest level of the building, where many large blue crossbows were set up in prominent places.
However, what caught his attention was a huge yellow flag standing at the highest point of the building, about five to six meters long, covered in many swirling black Spirit Patterns. Just looking at it gave him an uncomfortable feeling of oppression.
It seems that this is what they call the "Soul Banner." It must be a real magical item, but why is it so huge!
Wang Yu took a few more glances before Li Laosan led him into a small room on the boat. After giving him a few instructions, he left.
The room had a single bed, a small table, and a little chair. It was quite spacious.
Wang Yu quickly stuffed his bag under the bed, thought for a moment, then locked the door and walked out of the room to the deck again.
On the deck at that time, besides the busy crew, there were about seventeen or eighteen other passengers boarding, both men and women, young and old, all eagerly pointing and discussing something on the deck.
Wang Yu looked up at the sky and then walked quietly to the edge of the boat, waiting patiently.
Time passed quickly, and after more than two hours, the sky began to darken, and most people on the deck returned to their cabins to rest.
With a clear sound of bells ringing, all the crew members boarded the ship and after a slight tremble, the large boat left the dock, slowly heading toward the center of the river.
This boat had no sails, and there were no oars on the sides, but beneath the boat, the river waves rippled, and the boat glided smoothly further away.
Seeing this, Wang Yu let out a breath and gradually relaxed.
But just then, a hurried sound of horse hooves came from the dock in the distance. A group of cavalry charged onto the dock, kicking up dust. When they saw the huge ship had already left, two people leaped off their horses and flew towards the giant vessel.
Wang Yu felt a sudden jolt in his heart.
The many crew members on the deck and some guests still on the deck started to stir in surprise.
