Elder Lan continued staring coldly at Furong: “Is that so?”
Furong looked completely panicked and didn’t know what to do. Yue Qianchou quickly answered first: “Yes, many disciples in the garden witnessed what just happened. Please don’t blame Martial Uncle. I’ll clean this place up shortly.”
Elder Lan looked toward Yue Qianchou, her icy expression softening considerably. Without saying anything more, she turned and walked toward the inner garden.
“Elder Lan, please wait. This disciple has a request,” Yue Qianchou called out.
“What is it?” Lan Bingxue turned around and asked.
Yue Qianchou bowed: “Martial Uncle Furong has injured legs – both thigh bones are broken. This disciple would like to request some healing medicine.” He knew that Lan Bingxue was actually the chief administrator of Mulberry Grass Garden, making her the most appropriate person to ask for such things.
But she shook her head: “Mulberry Grass Garden doesn’t have that kind of healing medicine.”
Don’t have any? How was that possible? Yue Qianchou was stunned and sighed: “Then this disciple will go ask the Ninth Aunt Offering. Perhaps she has some.”
Lan Bingxue extended one hand, gently blocking his path, and said slowly: “I said Mulberry Grass Garden doesn’t have that kind of healing medicine. Don’t you believe what I’m saying?” A faint, almost imperceptible cold aura drifted out.
So cold! This woman practiced some unknown technique. Yue Qianchou couldn’t help but shiver. He now strongly suspected that Furong’s legs had been broken by her. Otherwise, why would she be so ruthless? No matter how low one’s cultivation, they were still fellow sect disciples.
Suspicion was just suspicion – he had no evidence, and Furong refused to speak. There was no benefit in offending someone of this level. He stepped back slightly, moving away from the freezing cold aura, and politely bowed: “Thank you for Elder Lan’s guidance. This disciple understands.”
Lan Bingxue coldly swept her gaze over both of them, then turned and returned to the inner garden.
“Come on, I’ll take you somewhere to heal your injuries,” Yue Qianchou said through gritted teeth to Furong. In all of Ten Thousand Fragrance Garden, there weren’t many people he was familiar with who could help. He thought of Elder Fei Denan, who presided over Ten Thousand Fragrance Garden.
Furong shook her head pleadingly: “Please don’t concern yourself with me anymore, okay? Just move to the inner garden! I…” At this point, she bit her lip and stopped talking, as if she had said something she shouldn’t have.
Yue Qianchou became alert: “What does this have to do with me moving to the inner garden? Could it be that your legs were injured because I refused to move to the inner garden?”
Furong frantically waved her hands: “No, no, it’s really not that.” Her abnormal behavior only increased Yue Qianchou’s suspicions and reminded him of something.
Recently, Yan Zixia had repeatedly suggested that he move to the inner garden, but he had refused each time. He knew Yan Zixia liked him and wanted him to live in the inner garden for convenient meetings. But because he was worried about the inconvenience of living in the inner garden and feared people would discover his secrets, while Furong was very tight-lipped and could keep the secret of his frequent mysterious disappearances, he had refused Yan Zixia and preferred to squeeze into a small space with Furong.
Could it be that because he lived with Furong and refused to separate from her, it had aroused Yan Zixia’s jealousy, resulting in trouble for Furong? Women were all creatures with strong jealousy!
The more Yue Qianchou thought about it, the more possible it seemed. He probed: “Did Yan Zixia injure your legs?”
Furong really didn’t want to keep entangling with him here endlessly. She said tearfully: “No.” After speaking, she endured the leg pain and went to pick up the overturned buckets.
“Are you trying to ruin your face first, and now waste both legs too!” Yue Qianchou shouted, kicking away the bucket she was trying to pick up. He scooped her up around the waist and ran outside. Furong kept struggling, even using her fists.
But perhaps she was truly too kind-hearted – she seemed to have no idea how to refuse others, or rather, how to hit people. The force of her fists hitting Yue Qianchou was something he could completely ignore.
‘What a waste of late Foundation Establishment stage cultivation,’ Yue Qianchou thought, shaking his head with a bitter smile. He didn’t consider himself a good person, nor did he have any obligation to heal the wounded and rescue the dying. But as a man, there were things one should and shouldn’t do, especially since she might have been implicated because of him. He’d consider it doing a good deed – helping the weak!
A man carrying a woman and running in broad daylight had never happened in Ten Thousand Fragrance Garden before, attracting considerable attention. When he ran all the way to the entrance of Ten Thousand Fragrance Garden’s main administrative hall, he was naturally stopped by the guards.
“Let me go,” Furong was still struggling. Yue Qianchou was getting a bit angry too. “SMACK!” – he gave her writhing bottom a heavy slap. The person on his shoulder immediately quieted down, and the two female disciple guards at the entrance were also somewhat dumbfounded.
Yue Qianchou, carrying the person, said: “Disciple Yue Qianchou requests an audience with Elder Fei.”
The female guards had intended to question them when they saw the two arrive covered in filth, but now they were also stunned. One said: “Wait a moment,” and went inside to report. Soon she came back out and told him that Elder Fei would see him.
After carrying Furong inside, he met Fei Denan standing in the main hall.
“Yue Qianchou, what are you doing?” Fei Denan asked curiously, seeing him carrying someone.
Because of past events, Yue Qianchou had no good feelings toward him and couldn’t be bothered with politeness. He put Furong down, helped her sit in a chair, then bowed: “Martial Uncle Furong’s legs were broken by someone unknown. I request Elder Fei to heal her injuries.”
But he saw Fei Denan staring blankly at Furong, while the latter, already timid by nature, didn’t dare raise her head under his gaze.
Yue Qianchou looked back and forth between them. ‘Could it be that Fei Denan has some special preference for ugly women? No wonder Lan Bingxue is so beautiful yet they’ve been separated for so long.’ The thought made him shudder. He quickly bowed again: “I request Elder Fei to heal Martial Uncle Furong’s injuries.”
“Ah!” Fei Denan snapped back to attention and asked anxiously: “Furong is injured? Where is she hurt?”
“Both thigh bones were broken by someone.”
“What?” Fei Denan cried out in alarm. He strode over in a few steps and was about to reach out to lift Furong’s long skirt covering her legs, but she instinctively covered herself with her hands. Fei Denan’s hand paused – only then did he remember she was a woman, and doing this would be improper. He squatted down on the spot and placed both hands directly on Furong’s knees, channeling his true essence through his palms into her legs to examine her injuries.
After a moment, Fei Denan’s face turned iron-blue. He slowly stood up, then suddenly slammed his palm on the tea table. “BANG!” – the tea table shattered to pieces, frightening Furong into shrinking back in her chair.
Fei Denan’s eyes turned red, his chest heaving as he glared at Yue Qianchou and demanded: “Who did this?”
‘Damn it! Why are you getting angry at me? It’s not like I did it,’ Yue Qianchou thought with a bitter smile: “I don’t know either.”
Fei Denan then stared at Furong, his expression becoming infinitely gentle: “Tell me who did this?”
Furong stammered: “No… no one. I… I fell by myself.”
This story couldn’t fool Yue Qianchou, and it couldn’t fool Fei Denan either. The latter said through gritted teeth: “Was it Lan Bingxue who did this?”
Furong shook her head in panic. But Yue Qianchou was very surprised – from Fei Denan’s expression, he was clearly convinced it was Elder Lan who did it. Even stranger was why he cared so much about Furong.
“Elder Fei, she’s timid. Perhaps you could heal her injuries first, and ask about other matters later,” Yue Qianchou suggested.
But Fei Denan pointed at him and scolded: “Don’t play the good guy. What did I bring you to Mulberry Grass Garden for? It was to have you take care of her! She’s been injured this badly and you don’t even know who did it? Useless!”
“I… uh…” Yue Qianchou pointed at himself, mouth agape and speechless, his mind in complete chaos.
