Chapter 18: Who Is the Victim?
Watching Wu Baoru’s persuasive manner, Yue Qianchou thought ‘I’ll play along with you slowly’ and asked aloud:
“Really?”
“Mm!” The former nodded heavily.
The latter hesitated for a moment and said:
“Alright then! I’ll tell you, but you absolutely must not tell outsiders!”
“Mm!” After nodding, Wu Baoru couldn’t help but sigh that Hao Sansi had taken on an idiot disciple.
“Then you must swear a poisonous oath to guarantee you won’t tell outsiders.” Yue Qianchou still looked uneasy.
“Uh…” Wu Baoru took another deep breath, thinking ‘I’ll endure this, and deal with you slowly later.’ He slowly raised his hand:
“I swear that the secret nephew tells me today, I definitely won’t tell outsiders. If I violate this oath, may I die a horrible death. Now you can speak!”
Yue Qianchou nodded happily, looked around as if afraid someone might eavesdrop, then lowered his voice:
“Uncle-Master, lean your ear over—don’t let others hear.”
Wu Baoru’s eyes lit up as he obediently brought his ear over. He heard the former say:
“I do have a secret when cultivating—that is, master always gives me his spirit stones to absorb spiritual energy. Master told me not to tell outsiders.”
Wu Baoru waited a while, and hearing no more sound, turned to look at him and asked:
“What else?”
Yue Qianchou shook his head:
“That’s all.”
“What? That’s all?” Wu Baoru cried out strangely. ‘What kind of secret is this? A master giving spirit stones to a beloved disciple is perfectly normal—the purpose is simply to help the disciple’s cultivation advance quickly.’
He immediately felt like he’d been played. He grabbed Yue Qianchou’s chest clothing and said ominously:
“Will you talk or not?”
“Hmph!” Yue Qianchou snorted coldly. The foolish expression on his face instantly vanished without a trace. His eyes narrowed slightly as he said calmly:
“What? Can’t deceive me, so you want to use force?”
“Haha!” Wu Baoru was slightly startled, then laughed angrily. ‘So I’ve been treating him like an idiot while he’s been playing me for a fool—what a loss of face.’
He said viciously:
“Good boy, you dare play me. I see you’re tired of living.”
His entire aura suddenly burst forth. How could Yue Qianchou’s current cultivation withstand a Nascent Soul stage cultivator’s pressure? He immediately felt somewhat suffocated under that oppressive force, and the killing intent was unmistakably clear.
Yue Qianchou said coldly:
“If you dare touch a hair on my head, I guarantee you’ll never know this secret. If you don’t believe me, you can try.”
“You think I don’t dare!” Wu Baoru slowly raised one palm.
“I’m waiting to see.” Yue Qianchou raised an eyebrow and smiled:
“But there’s something I should remind you—if I die, I wonder if other people in Azure Light Sect will suspect you of hoarding this secret for yourself.”
Though Wu Baoru’s face showed no reaction, Yue Qianchou clearly saw his pupils suddenly contract. The former chuckled:
“I’ll give you one last chance. If you don’t speak, I’ll kill you immediately.”
“Thank you! You don’t need to give me any more chances—kill me now!” Yue Qianchou smiled as he looked at his opponent. Though he said this, his consciousness had already locked onto the golden bead in his dantian. As soon as he confirmed the other party showed signs of attacking, he’d immediately flee.
Wu Baoru’s facial muscles twitched, his triangular eyes rolled, and he suddenly pushed Yue Qianchou away with a sinister laugh:
“I almost fell for your trick—you’re trying to provoke me.”
The latter straightened his wrinkled chest clothing and shook his head with a sigh:
“Old turtle, you’re clearly afraid that killing me would arouse suspicion from other old codgers, yet you insist on finding yourself a dignified way out. Since you knew this would happen, why bare your fangs and claws? Old dog, look what you’ve done to my clothes.”
He no longer showed any face now, feeling that since they’d already fallen out, there was no need to be secretive.
“Hehe! Sharp-tongued little beast, I won’t waste words with you. I’ll cripple your dantian right now and make you suffer a fate worse than death, torturing you until you speak.”
Wu Baoru was already trembling with anger. In all his years at Azure Light Sect, no one had ever cursed him like this. From his appearance, these words didn’t seem casual—he was really going to act.
‘Oh! Getting serious now. I have the golden bead, so I’m not afraid. Hmm! Today seems to be the day for sharing insights—I’ll play you to death, old dog.’ Yue Qianchou thought this while sighing aloud:
“Stop! I’m afraid of you. If you want me to speak, fine, but I want to tell the sect leader personally in Azure Light Hall. If you don’t agree, I’ll self-destruct my dantian.”
Wu Baoru was startled, thinking ‘Once you speak, I’ll kill you immediately,’ and readily agreed. As for what scheme he was plotting, Yue Qianchou could figure it out with his butt.
Yue Qianchou swaggered ahead while Wu Baoru followed behind with a cold smile. The two walked one after the other toward Azure Light Sect’s main hall.
Passing through the surrounding walls, they could see quite a few disciples sitting in the middle of the square listening to lectures, while several elders sharing insights sat below the main hall. Yue Qianchou’s face showed a knowing smile.
When they were almost at the middle of the crowd, Yue Qianchou suddenly took off running for his life. Wu Baoru was slightly startled, thinking ‘Where can you run to here?’
“Help! Someone wants to steal my spirit stones! The old dog wants to steal my spirit stones! The old turtle wants to rob and murder! Sect Leader, save me…”
Yue Qianchou shouted with all his might. His voice could be heard throughout the entire square—truly a miserable cry. Instantly, countless gazes from across the square turned toward them.
Wu Baoru hadn’t expected this fellow to pull such a stunt in broad daylight before everyone. He nearly fainted with anger and roared:
“Stop right there!”
His figure flashed as he shot forward.
‘Damn! The old dog is furious.’ Just as Yue Qianchou was about to hide in the golden bead, a voice came from the main hall:
“Stop!”
At the same time, one of the elders sharing insights quickly flashed over and blocked in front of Yue Qianchou.
“Senior Brother Lu, get out of the way! I’m going to kill him!” Wu Baoru raged.
The elder called Senior Brother Lu frowned and shouted:
“Junior Brother Wu, don’t you see what place this is? How improper!”
This person was named Lu Wanqian.
“I…” Reminded by his senior brother, Wu Baoru looked around and saw countless gazes looking at him in disbelief. Then thinking of that little beast’s shouting, his heart immediately went cold. ‘What a huge loss of face today.’
But behind his senior brother, that detestable face was making faces at him, immediately making him tremble with rage as he cried out:
“This infuriates me!”
“Who is making noise outside the hall?”
Sect Leader Liu Changqing walked out with a group of elders. Yue Qianchou immediately turned and ran toward them, crying out:
“Sect Leader, save me! Uncle-Master Wu wants to kill me to silence me. Sect Leader, save me! Uncle-Master Wu wants to kill me to silence me.”
Liu Changqing and the others’ gazes immediately fixed on Wu Baoru in unison. They were very clear about why Wu Baoru had gone to find Yue Qianchou.
“Nonsense! This infuriates me! Little beast, I’ll kill you!”
Wu Baoru was nearly ready to spit blood with anger. He directly leaped over Lu Wanqian and released a sword light toward Yue Qianchou.
“Outrageous!”
Liu Changqing flicked his fly whisk, and the whisk’s threads instantly lengthened, wrapping around the sword light and retracting it—a long sword was wrapped within. Two elders also flew out from beside him and restrained Wu Baoru.
The latter stared at Yue Qianchou with bloodshot eyes, wailing continuously, looking as if he wanted to tear Yue Qianchou to pieces.
After glancing at Wu Baoru, Liu Changqing stared at Yue Qianchou and asked:
“What exactly happened?”
“Sect Leader, save me!” Yue Qianchou seemed quite frightened. He knelt down and wailed loudly:
“Today Uncle-Master Wu found this disciple and forced me to reveal a secret. Then he stole one hundred mid-grade spirit stones that master left me. Originally, this disciple was prepared to swallow this humiliation and let it pass. But for some unknown reason, Uncle-Master Wu just won’t let me go. This disciple estimates that Uncle-Master wants to kill me to silence me. This disciple is truly wronged—I never thought that just after my master died, Uncle-Master Wu would actually… wuu wuu… Please, Sect Leader, seek justice for this disciple.”
“Ah…” The entire square immediately erupted. Though the cultivation world was inherently cold and heartless, it was truly rare to see someone who, right after his junior brother died, would immediately rob his junior brother’s disciple.
Seeing Yue Qianchou’s miserable state, no one would think he dared falsely accuse his uncle-master. Though people didn’t dare discuss loudly, whispered conversations were inevitable. Everyone looked at Wu Baoru as if looking at a monster.
Among them were also disciples of Wu Baoru’s faction, who shamefully lowered their heads. Many female disciples, hearing of Yue Qianchou’s tragic encounter and seeing his pitiful state, mostly had tears in their eyes.
Among them, Qu Ping’er bit her lower lip tightly—she couldn’t imagine that the talented person who created those two masterful songs would suffer such abuse.
“Little beast! You dare say… I’ll kill you!”
Wu Baoru struggled frantically, but with two senior brothers whose cultivation exceeded his restraining him, how could he break free?
Yue Qianchou thought: ‘Is this old guy about to go crazy with anger? Tsk! Such poor psychological quality, yet he tries to play the villain. But going crazy is perfect—I’ll stimulate him some more.’
“Uncle-Master Wu, do you dare do it but not let me speak about it… ugh!”
Yue Qianchou suddenly clutched his chest, looking like he was having a heart attack relapse. He staggered a few steps, spread his arms wide, and cried to the heavens:
“Oh Heaven! Please open your eyes and see! How can there be such a deranged person in this world!”
After swaying and steadying himself, he pointed at Wu Baoru hysterically:
“I have no past grudges or recent enmity with you—why do you treat me this way! Why do you treat me this way!”
His grief and indignation moved people to tears.
“Uncle-Master Yue is so pitiful!”
Female disciples in front of the hall immediately began sobbing. One led to two, two led to three… Soon many female disciples were crying aloud.
“Puff!”
These crying sounds falling into Wu Baoru’s ears were no different from lightning strikes. His whole body trembled, yet he could do nothing about Yue Qianchou. Immediately, his anger attacked his heart and he spat out a mouthful of blood, then rolled his eyes back and collapsed in his senior brother’s arms.
‘Damn! I’m still awesome—I actually made a Nascent Soul stage cultivator faint with anger! Haha!’ Yue Qianchou looked at the blood-spitting person through tear-blurred eyes.
Liu Changqing’s face was iron-gray. He never expected that sending Wu Baoru to find Yue Qianchou would cause such trouble. His eyes swept back and forth between the two faces, unable to determine who was the victim.
Seeing Wu Baoru faint, his eyes immediately fixed deadly on Yue Qianchou. But the latter’s face, thickened through two lifetimes, wasn’t so easily seen through.
