Chapter 17: Uncle-Master Has Business
“Oh!” Yue Qianchou immediately threw away the sword and put on the ‘Mountain-Piercing Claws.’ He saw ten finger sheaths with ten black, gleaming sharp claws attached. He gestured with both hands a few times—quite imposing, though they felt a bit loose and ill-fitting.
Following the white fox’s instructions, he slowly channeled true qi into the gloves. Immediately, his hands felt tight, as if the gloves had become one with his palms. When he withdrew the true qi, the gloves loosened from his palms again.
“This thing is good. Let me try it.” Yue Qianchou praised, raising one finger and stabbing it toward the stone. He saw that finger silently and effortlessly sink in up to the knuckle. He tried several more times with the same result.
He turned his head and waved both claws: “Thank you, sister, for giving me this treasure!”
The white fox shook her head: “I never said I was giving it to you. This is my fox clan’s inherited treasure. I have no right to give it to you—I’m only lending it for temporary use!”
“Uh…” Yue Qianchou was startled and smiled sheepishly: “I understand.” He immediately buried his head in work, his claws flying as stone chips scattered.
In less than half a day, a passable stone coffin was completed. He took off the gloves and hung them at his waist, found a place he considered to have good feng shui, and desperately struck out several hundred palm strikes, finally smashing out a deep pit.
Then the hollowed-out stone coffin, which he could now move with his cultivation level, was placed in the pit. He carefully placed his master’s remains inside, covered it with the stone lid, and piled the surrounding loose earth on top, finally creating a burial mound—his master was naturally the filling of that mound.
He looked around and circled it several times, always feeling something was missing. Finally, he slapped his forehead—a tombstone was missing. So he put on the gloves and quickly made another tombstone. It bore the large characters ‘Tomb of Benevolent Master Hao Sansi’ with smaller characters beside it: ‘Erected by Unfilial Disciple Yue Qianchou.’ After finishing, he looked carefully and found that aside from the ugly handwriting, there shouldn’t be any other errors.
When he carried the tombstone to the burial mound, he was immediately dumbfounded. He circled the grave several times, so anxious that sweat broke out on his forehead. Because he had wanted to make his master’s grave perfect, he had patted the entire burial mound too round. Now he had forgotten which direction his master’s head and feet were facing when buried. He couldn’t just randomly pick a direction and stick the tombstone in!
“Damn it!” Yue Qianchou cursed, put the tombstone on the ground, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and prepared to dig up the grave again to see how his master was buried.
The white fox, who had been watching him work from the side, initially saw him carrying a tombstone and circling the grave, not knowing what he wanted to do. ‘Was this some local custom?’ Her beautiful eyes widened with curiosity as she watched.
It wasn’t until this fellow prepared to dig up the grave again that the white fox realized her silly brother had actually forgotten how his master was buried and now wanted to dig up his already-buried master to take a look. ‘What kind of situation was this?’ She immediately felt both amused and exasperated.
He might not mind losing face, but the person watching felt she couldn’t afford to lose face. The white fox looked down and saw a stone at her feet. She kicked it, and the stone landed steadily at a position beside the burial mound.
Yue Qianchou saw a stone fall. Since there was only him and the white fox in this place, it must have been thrown by the latter. He, who was crouching beside the grave, looked up at the white fox and saw her glaring at him angrily. He finally realized that the white fox was reminding him where the tombstone should be placed. So he pointed at the stone’s position and shouted to her:
“You mean bury it here?”
The white fox nodded. After Yue Qianchou carried the tombstone to that position, he looked around and felt it didn’t quite seem right. He couldn’t help shouting to her again:
“Sister Bai, are you sure it’s here?”
The white fox, who had always maintained an elegant demeanor, finally couldn’t help but roll her eyes. She decided not to bother with him anymore—let him do whatever he wanted. She turned and walked away on the spot, and one could faintly hear her mutter the words “idiot.”
Yue Qianchou thought she wouldn’t lie to him, so he buried the tombstone in that position. Afterward, looking at it, he still felt something was missing. Suddenly his eyes lit up, and he ran toward the flowers and plants around.
The white fox not far away was again drawn by her brother’s actions. As she watched, her expression became somewhat unpleasant. The already sparse wildflowers became even more devastated after his picking here and there. He had ruined the entire nearby area before finally gathering enough to make a wreath, which he placed in front of his master’s tombstone.
Then he caught two birds, roasted them, and stuck them in front of his master’s grave. He respectfully kowtowed several times and swore to definitely avenge his master. After all this commotion, it was finally done.
He looked up and sighed, then turned to see the white fox standing alone in the wilderness. Looking around at the lack of any shelter, he couldn’t let a woman live in the wild outdoors like himself every day! He immediately had the idea of building a house.
With a mental movement, he was back in the stone cavern. The cavern without anyone playing and singing seemed particularly quiet. Looking at the fluorite covering the stone walls, thinking that his territory also needed lighting at night, he immediately started prying them off without a word, directly transferring them to the golden bead space as soon as he pried them off.
As he pried, he suddenly discovered that as long as his hands could touch the fluorite, he could directly send it to his space with just a thought. This discovery delighted him immensely. He didn’t stop until a large area of one stone wall in the cavern had gone dark.
Little did he know that the white fox in the golden bead space was startled when she saw fluorite continuously falling from the sky. But before long, she guessed it was Yue Qianchou’s doing and understood his intention, so she collected all the fluorite together.
But not long after, something even more terrifying happened—large trees began falling from the sky, one after another, followed by bamboo. The white fox flew to dodge aside, staring at the sky in amazement.
Outside, Yue Qianchou had wanted to get some larger trees to his territory, but any tree too big for one person to embrace couldn’t be moved by his mental power. He could only stand there and sigh at the trees. With pits and holes everywhere from trees being uprooted, he felt it was about enough.
Looking at the mountaintop, remembering his master still had some belongings, he decided to collect them all to his territory.
The small courtyard was still quiet, but things had changed while people remained the same. Standing outside the gate, Yue Qianchou felt heavy-hearted. He gently pushed open the courtyard gate and immediately saw a person standing with his back to him, hands behind his back, holding a sword.
That person turned around, looked at Yue Qianchou with a slight smile and said: “Nephew, you’ve kept me waiting!” It was Wu Baoru.
Having lived on the mountain for over a year, Yue Qianchou naturally recognized this person. This man was actually his master’s senior brother, and from his leading the plea for Liu Zhengguang that day, he was clearly part of the sect leader’s faction.
Though displeased in his heart, he still bowed with a stern face: “Uncle-Master Wu!”
Wu Baoru nodded. Seeing his poor complexion, thinking it was due to his master’s death, he sighed: “Sigh! Junior Brother Hao… no one could have expected such a thing to happen. The dead are gone—nephew, please accept my condolences. Eh! Where is junior brother’s remains?”
‘Accept your mother’s head, you old turtle! Skinny and dried up, sharp-mouthed and monkey-cheeked—clearly not a good person at first glance.’ Yue Qianchou cursed silently and said: “I have already buried master in the back mountain. By the way! Does Uncle-Master have business here?”
“Yes!” Wu Baoru nodded, staring at him and saying: “Yesterday, seeing nephew exchange a palm strike with Zhengguang truly surprised the entire Azure Light Sect. Who would have thought nephew had already reached Qi Refining Level 5. I’m here on the sect leader’s orders to grant you an Azure Light Sect sword. From today, you are an officially registered disciple of Azure Light Sect. Starting this month, you can receive five hundred low-grade spirit stones monthly.” After speaking, he tossed the sword in his hand over.
Yue Qianchou caught the sword, glanced at Wu Baoru, and said nothing, thinking: ‘Such good fortune? Heh! I don’t believe in pies falling from the sky.’
Wu Baoru paced around the courtyard with his hands behind his back, saying in a deep voice: “You also saw what happened to your master this time. It’s not that the sect doesn’t want to avenge your master—it’s that the sect’s strength can’t compare to Great Luo Sect. Why can’t we compare to Great Luo Sect? It’s because for thousands of years, disciples with good cultivation bones have all been monopolized by those major sects. The long-term consequence is that the strong become stronger while the weak become weaker. But now the moment to change our sect’s destiny has arrived.”
Speaking to this point, he stopped walking, his triangular eyes suddenly fixing on Yue Qianchou.
‘Heh! I’m afraid what comes next is the real topic.’ Yue Qianchou sneered inwardly. Sure enough…
“Nephew originally had no cultivation bones whatsoever and by rights shouldn’t be able to cultivate, yet now your cultivation has reached Qi Refining Level 5. This is truly exciting news for all of Azure Light Sect. So the sect leader specifically instructed me to come ask nephew about the reason. As long as our Azure Light Sect masters such a secret, we’ll never again have to worry about lacking disciples with good bones. In a few hundred years, our Azure Light Sect will surely become the world’s greatest sect. At that time, nephew will be our Azure Light Sect’s greatest contributor…” Wu Baoru became more excited as he spoke, then began gesticulating as if Azure Light Sect’s glory would arrive tomorrow.
Yue Qianchou watched him perform, delighted inwardly, thinking: ‘This old codger really has the makings of a pyramid scheme salesman—one deception after another when it comes to bewitching people. Does he really think I’m an idiot? You just want to know why I can cultivate, right? I just won’t tell you.’
Wu Baoru, who had been speaking passionately for a long time, finally stopped and looked at Yue Qianchou with excited eyes: “Nephew understands how important this matter is to the sect, right! Quickly tell Uncle-Master the secret. I’ll report back to the sect leader, and afterward, you’ll definitely be heavily rewarded.”
Yue Qianchou scratched his head and asked blankly: “What secret?”
“Uh…” ‘So after all that talking, this kid didn’t understand? Did I say too much and make it too complicated?’ Wu Baoru took a deep breath and said: “The secret of your cultivation?”
Yue Qianchou asked puzzledly: “My cultivation has a secret?”
“Really no secret?” Wu Baoru was somewhat gritting his teeth.
“Is there one?” Yue Qianchou looked very innocent and naive.
“Am I asking you, or are you asking me!” Wu Baoru finally couldn’t help but roar.
“Oh! I remember now—there is a secret.” Yue Qianchou said with realization. Wu Baoru’s eyes lit up as he said joyfully: “What secret? Tell Uncle-Master quickly!” The former shook his head: “No good, I can’t say. Master instructed me not to tell outsiders.”
The latter immediately felt an urge to grab Yue Qianchou and beat him up, thinking: ‘Junior Brother Hao indeed knew this secret long ago. Even in death, he wanted to take this secret to his grave—how ruthless.’
Thinking this made him even more interested. He took a deep breath and smiled peacefully: “Outsiders refers to people outside Azure Light Sect. I’m your master’s senior brother, so I don’t count as an outsider. If you tell me, your master won’t blame you.”
