Volume 2 + Chapter 13: The Girls’ Thoughts
Lunch Break.
“Excuse me, is Qianxue here?” Ning Caiwei arrived at the entrance of Class 6, Grade 10, and asked.
“What? Still not satisfied after your crushing defeat last time? Coming to cause trouble for Classmate Ouyang again?” Several students from Class 6 immediately blocked Ning Caiwei’s path.
“No, it’s a misunderstanding. I just came to invite Classmate Ouyang to have lunch together. Besides, we’ve already made up—we’re friends now.” Facing the agitated students from Class 6, Ning Caiwei spoke timidly.
“Who are you trying to fool? Just the other day, you were causing trouble for her over the title of school belle. Classmate Ouyang is not only outstanding but also kind-hearted, always helping us when we’re in trouble. Someone like you, who harasses her for selfish reasons, is not welcome in Class 6, Grade 10—even if you’re an idol!” As they spoke, the girls in the class began pushing Ning Caiwei out.
“Wait!” A voice called out from behind them. Everyone turned to see that it was Ouyang Qianxue.
“She’s telling the truth. We’ve reconciled and become friends,” Ouyang Qianxue said. Upon seeing her, the crowd immediately made way.
“So that’s how it is. Even though Ning Caiwei provoked her first, she still forgave her and was willing to become friends. Classmate Ouyang is truly magnanimous.”
“Qianxue, if you don’t mind, could we have lunch together?” Ning Caiwei asked softly.
“I don’t mind, but I’ve already made plans to eat with Wang Qian. Is that okay with you?”
“Of course! I’d love to meet your friend too.”
After buying their meals in the cafeteria, the two headed to the rooftop.
“Hey, Qianxue, why don’t you eat in the cafeteria?”
“Because…” Recalling her first day eating in the cafeteria, Ouyang Qianxue still felt uneasy. Back then, the moment she sat down, all eyes were immediately on her.
“Hey, is that the legendary transfer student?”
“She’s incredibly beautiful.”
“Yeah, and she swept through Sakura Academy’s clubs on her first day.”
“Not only is she stunning, but she’s also so talented? Beauty and brains combined!”
“Look, even the way she eats is so elegant.”
Everyone stopped eating, staring at Ouyang Qianxue with curiosity.
At that moment, Ouyang Qianxue felt like a panda in a zoo—every move she made was under scrutiny. After that, to fully enjoy her lunch breaks, she started eating on the rooftop with Wang Qian.
“I see. Sometimes, being too popular isn’t necessarily a good thing. I totally understand,” Ning Caiwei said sympathetically.
“Alright, we’re here.” Ouyang Qianxue pushed open the rooftop door.
“You’re late…” Wang Qian, who had been waiting on the rooftop, froze when she saw Ning Caiwei.
“Hello, Classmate Wang Qian. I’m Ning Caiwei.”
“Oh, it’s the big celebrity. If you don’t mind eating with ordinary students like us, go ahead and sit,” Wang Qian said with a displeased expression.
“Don’t joke like that, Classmate Wang Qian. Being an idol is just my identity outside school. Inside school, I’m just an ordinary student like you, so please treat me as one,” Ning Caiwei replied with a smile.
The three spread out a picnic cloth on the rooftop and sat down.
“By the way, Ning Caiwei, weren’t you looking down on Qianxue just a few days ago, even trying to steal her title as school belle? Why the sudden change in attitude?” Wang Qian pressed.
“Because I hadn’t discovered Qianxue’s charm back then. After that day, I became completely infatuated with her.”
“Caiwei, you’re exaggerating. Infatuated with me? That’s…”
“I am infatuated! That’s why I couldn’t wait to become friends with you—to learn everything about you!” Ning Caiwei grew increasingly excited and grabbed Ouyang Qianxue’s hands.
“Stop!” Wang Qian immediately stepped between them, forcibly separating the two.
“What’s wrong? I was just bonding with Qianxue as friends.”
“How long do you plan to keep this up? The food’s getting cold.”
“Qianxue, what’s going on with you?” Wang Qian turned and whispered to her.
“Aren’t you worried Ning Caiwei might discover your secret if you get too close?”
“Sorry, I didn’t think about that,” Ouyang Qianxue said guiltily.
“Whatever, let’s just eat. Lunch break isn’t long!” The three began eating in silence. While Qianxue focused on her meal, Wang Qian and Ning Caiwei exchanged hostile glances.
—
After School.
As usual, Bai Yuxuan was heading to the student council office when she noticed someone standing at the door.
“Oh, who do we have here? If it isn’t the idol who got utterly crushed,” Bai Yuxuan sneered upon recognizing Ning Caiwei.
“Yes, it’s me,” Ning Caiwei stepped forward.
“After such a humiliating defeat, you should’ve realized just how formidable Ouyang Qianxue is. She’s on a level you, a mere idol, could never reach.”
“True, I’ve come to understand just how strong she is. But I’ve also realized something else—why you like her so much.” Ning Caiwei smirked as she studied Bai Yuxuan’s reaction.
“Like her? Don’t be ridiculous. I only see her as a rival.” Bai Yuxuan brushed past Ning Caiwei to unlock the office door.
“Is that so? Ouyang Qianxue may be mature in many ways, but she’s surprisingly dense when it comes to emotions,” Ning Caiwei teased.
“If you keep this up, she might drift further and further away from you.”
At those words, Bai Yuxuan’s steps faltered.
“Just as I thought. Ouyang Qianxue is much more than just a rival to you, isn’t she?” Ning Caiwei whispered as she approached.
“What are you trying to say?” Bai Yuxuan glared at her.
“I just wanted to see how deep your obsession with Ouyang Qianxue runs. After all, my feelings for her go beyond friendship.”
“I told you, she’s just an opponent to me.”
“Is that so? Since Wang Qian and I are both girls, I’m confident I won’t lose to her. But you’re different—you’re handsome, exceptionally capable, and even I felt a flutter when I first saw you. I originally thought you’d be the one to watch out for, but it seems I overestimated you.”
With that, Ning Caiwei turned and left.
