Volume 2 + Chapter 12: Ning Caiwei’s Thoughts
“So… Can we be friends?” Ning Caiwei asked somewhat shyly.
She asked this because ever since Ouyang Qianxue appeared before her during her moment of crisis, she had been deeply captivated by that dashing figure.
And after their conversation, she was even more impressed by the maturity of her heart that contrasted with her outward appearance.
At this moment, in Ning Caiwei’s eyes, Ouyang Qianxue was so extraordinary—from her external demeanor to her inner personality, there was a unique charm that deeply attracted her. It felt as if Ouyang Qianxue was glowing.
That was why she couldn’t wait to become friends with her—because she wanted to get to know Ouyang Qianxue better, to understand what kind of person she truly was.
Ning Caiwei now tightly closed her eyes. She knew it was highly unlikely that Ouyang Qianxue would agree to her request. After all, the two had just met, and she had already caused Ouyang Qianxue so much trouble. She was prepared to be rejected. However—
“Sure, why not? After all, no discord, no concord, right?”
“Really? That’s great!” With that, Ning Caiwei happily hugged Ouyang Qianxue.
“Don’t do that—you’re getting too close!” Ouyang Qianxue’s cheeks turned bright red at that moment. Because of their embrace, she could clearly feel two soft things pressing against her chest.
“Sorry, I got a little too excited just now.” After saying this, Ning Caiwei let go of Ouyang Qianxue.
“Oh, right!” Ning Caiwei suddenly seemed to remember something.
“Didn’t I make a promise to you earlier? After I lost, I’d agree to any request of yours. Have you decided what you want me to do?”
“About that… don’t worry about it. I wasn’t really concerned about the bet in the first place.”
“How can that be? Are you looking down on me? I’m still an idol, after all. How can I not honor a promise I made in front of others?”
“Hmm… then help me figure out a way to deal with Bai Yuxuan.”
“Bai Yuxuan? Isn’t he your boyfriend?” Ning Caiwei tilted her head and asked.
“Huh?” Ouyang Qianxue exclaimed in surprise.
“What made you think he and I are in a relationship?”
“Because…” Ning Caiwei recalled that when she had threatened to teach Ouyang Qianxue a lesson, Bai Yuxuan had clearly shown strong hostility toward her.
(So that’s how it is… which means Bai Yuxuan has one-sided feelings for Ouyang Qianxue…)
“Because what?” Ouyang Qianxue’s questioning snapped Ning Caiwei out of her thoughts.
“Ah, it’s because our classmates keep saying how perfect you two are for each other, and since you’re desk mates, I wondered if you were dating.” After hesitating for a moment, Ning Caiwei decided not to tell Ouyang Qianxue the truth.
“Don’t listen to the gossip from our classmates. You have no idea how scheming Bai Yuxuan is in private. Someone like him is absolutely not someone I’d ever date. Besides, I have a lot of things to do right now, and romance is the last thing on my mind.”
“I see…”
“Alright, since you’re already at your doorstep, I’ll head back. If I miss the dorm curfew, it’ll be trouble.”
“Mm, thank you so much for today, Ouyang Qianxue.”
“Don’t mention it. We’re friends now—just call me Qianxue.”
“Really? Then you can call me Caiwei too. See you tomorrow, Qianxue!”
“See you tomorrow, Caiwei.”
With that, the two parted ways.
By the time Ouyang Qianxue returned to the dormitory, it was already late at night. Outside the school gates, inside a parked car, a woman watched Ouyang Qianxue enter the school before making a phone call.
“Hello, Young Master. She’s back safely. I kept an eye on her the whole way.”
“Good, thank you for your hard work, Xiao Liu.” On the other end of the line, Bai Yuxuan let out a sigh of relief before hanging up.
Meanwhile, Ouyang Qianxue was carefully opening the dormitory door and stepping inside. The room was pitch black.
“Whew, great. Looks like Wang Qian is already asleep.”
“Who said I was asleep?” A figure suddenly appeared behind Ouyang Qianxue.
“Eek!” The sudden appearance startled Ouyang Qianxue. When she regained her composure, she could see under the moonlight that the figure was none other than Wang Qian.
“Ah, so you’re still awake…” Ouyang Qianxue forced a sweet smile.
“Of course! You were gone for hours without a word, and you didn’t answer your phone. As your temporary guardian, how could I dare to sleep?”
“I didn’t get any calls from you…” Ouyang Qianxue took out her phone and realized it had long since run out of battery.
“Do you have any idea how worried I was? Weren’t you just comforting Ning Caiwei? Why did it take so long?”
“Ha ha, we got a little carried away chatting at the café, and since it was late, I didn’t feel comfortable letting her go home alone, so I escorted her back.”
“Caiwei?” Wang Qian glared sharply at Ouyang Qianxue.
“Oh? After just half a day, you’re already calling her so affectionately? Meanwhile, you still call your own roommate by her full name.”
“But your name is only two characters! I don’t know how else to call you…”
“I don’t want to hear it. Those are just excuses.”
“Then… Qian-Qian, I was wrong. Please don’t be mad at me,” Ouyang Qianxue said.
“That’s so gross! I’m getting goosebumps all over!” Wang Qian turned her face away.
“Then what should I call you?”
“Just stick to my name. I’ll let it go for today. It’s late—get some sleep.” With that, Wang Qian lay down on her bed. Since she kept her back turned, Ouyang Qianxue didn’t notice that Wang Qian’s face was as red as a ripe tomato.
—
Meanwhile, in Ning Caiwei’s room…
“Ugh, I can’t sleep at all!” The moment Ning Caiwei closed her eyes, she remembered everything that had happened during the day—her defeat at Ouyang Qianxue’s hands, being saved by her, being comforted by her.
“Maybe I’ll read some manga…” So Ning Caiwei picked up her phone and opened a manga app. There, a yuri manga caught her attention.
The story was about a girl who gets cornered by delinquents on her way home from school, only for another girl to step in and save her. The two become friends as a result, and through subsequent events, they eventually become lovers.
“This is so weird… I used to dislike this kind of manga, but now I find it really appealing. Is it because the plot is so similar to how Qianxue and I met? If Qianxue and I were to follow the manga’s storyline…”
“Ah, what am I thinking? We’re just ordinary friends!” Ning Caiwei covered her face with a pillow and rolled around on the bed.
“But…” She began to reflect. As an idol with striking looks, she had always been surrounded by plenty of men. But Ning Caiwei knew very well that they were only interested in her appearance and her status.
“Rather than dating those filthy men, maybe being with another girl wouldn’t be so bad… And…” She recalled Ouyang Qianxue’s heroic display earlier that day, beating up the delinquents to save her.
“Maybe dating a girl wouldn’t be so bad after all…” Ning Caiwei murmured softly to herself.
