Chapter 75: The Awakened Class B Dead Spirit
Given the Class B Dead Spirit’s Physical Resistance Ability of 20 points, this group of ants would struggle to deal significant damage.
Though the acid spat by the Acid Ants requires caution, the Class B Dead Spirit’s 6 points of Abnormal State Resistance Ability should mitigate most of the acid’s harm.
The only real threat is likely the leading Iron Armored Ant.
It possesses some noteworthy skills.
Regardless, while other ants can be ignored, I must focus all efforts on stopping that Iron Armored Ant.
At this moment, the Archer Dead Spirits launched their attacks. Their arrows slaughtered many of the weaker Weak Ants and Military Ants, forcing the Iron Armored Ants to slow their advance to protect the Acid Ants.
However, it seemed the Weak Ants and Military Ants hadn’t invaded the castle to fight the hall’s Dead Spirits—they scattered upon entering, intent on searching the castle.
So their target… is me? Killing me, the controller of the Dead Spirits, would end this easily. The Queen Ant of this swarm must possess unusual intelligence for a monster.
Though Mitsui deduced their goal, he remained calm.
The Dead Spirits in the hall weren’t his full force—a small group guarded other areas.
Thus, when several Military Ants and Weak Ants approached the stairway where he hid, a spear suddenly slashed through the air, cleaving the leading ants in two and splattering blood across the floor.
Three Dead Spirits emerged at the stairway.
Three more appeared at each of the hall’s other exits—melee Dead Spirits wielding spears or shields. Their strength made breaching their defense nearly impossible for the Weak and Military Ants.
Mitsui knew they couldn’t reach him without first defeating the hall’s Dead Spirits and the Class B Dead Spirit.
His escape hinged on how quickly the Class B Dead Spirit awakened.
Just then, after the Archer Dead Spirits loosed another volley, the Iron Armored Ants activated Charge and surged forward. The hall’s Dead Spirits tried to block them, but their efforts were futile.
The Dead Spirits were tossed aside, their formation ripped open.
The massive Iron Armored Ant charged through the gap, targeting the Class B Dead Spirit!
Had it used Identification to detect the Class B Dead Spirit’s vulnerable state? The leading Iron Armored Ant’s intelligence surpassed expectations—it bypassed the attacking Dead Spirits entirely.
But time was almost up.
Mitsui watched as the Iron Armored Ant leaped onto the round platform, its razor-sharp jaws snapping toward the golden-armored Dead Spirit.
Just before contact, twin flashes of light ignited in the Dead Spirit’s skeletal eye sockets. Its bony arms shot out, gripping the ant’s jaws.
It awakened!!
Mitsui’s spirits soared from his hiding spot.
*Kill it! Destroy these cursed ants!*
Bite
A faint glow enveloped the Iron Armored Ant’s jaws, their force surging abruptly.
Caught off guard, the Class B Dead Spirit’s arms were seized. The golden armor on its limbs cracked as fissures split the metal.
Unable to break free, the Class B Dead Spirit emitted a shrill screech.
The sound dazed the Iron Armored Ant, loosening its grip.
Though the daze lasted mere seconds, it was enough—the Dead Spirit wrenched free and snatched the greatsword embedded in the platform.
The massive blade cleaved the air with terrifying momentum, descending vertically toward the ant.
Recovering, the Iron Armored Ant leaped backward to evade—but too slowly.
Mid-retreat, the Dead Spirit altered its strike, pivoting the blade into an upward slash!
Dodging was impossible.
The agility gap was insurmountable. As the sword connected, the Iron Armored Ant activated a skill—its blackened shell gleamed metallic, clashing against the blade with a metallic *clang!*
It withstood a 50-strength strike?!
Mitsui hastily checked its status.
Ironcladization—that skill must be responsible!
Its Physical Resistance Ability had skyrocketed to… 63 points?!
An absurd skill—but insufficient.
As predicted, when standard attacks failed, the Class B Dead Spirit enveloped its sword in two layers of shimmering light. It activated Strike and Rapid Slash.
The blade whistled downward again. The Iron Armored Ant sensed danger and tried to retreat—but halfway through its movement, the skeleton unleashed another ear-splitting screech.
Dazed once more, the ant couldn’t evade as the sword flashed like white lightning.
A dark foreleg spiraled through the air, crimson blood drenching the Dead Spirit’s golden armor.
Wonderful!
Although it was a bit disappointing not to decapitate the ant in one strike, severing one of its forelimbs already provided an advantage. Now, it was time to expand this advantage until the enemy was completely vanquished!
Mitsui was exhilarated.
This was a life-or-death battle, and he poured every ounce of focus into it.
Removing a forelimb would hinder the opponent’s mobility and attacks, while the inflicted pain would further diminish its combat effectiveness.
As he thought this, the Iron Armored Ant’s body rapidly expanded…
Once… twice… three times…
Its growth halted after tripling in size. Now, the Iron Armored Ant was colossal, its remaining forelimb towering even over the Class B Dead Spirit.
The enlarged Iron Armored Ant swung its other forelimb violently, smashing into the Dead Spirit’s arm. A tremendous force surged through, forcing the Dead Spirit to release its grip. The greatsword was sent flying.
Almost immediately after losing its forelimb, the ant activated its skill…
Miyoshi Mitsui’s excited expression stiffened into disbelief.
*Does this Iron Armored Ant lack pain receptors like the Dead Spirit?*
*And what is this skill? Beyond magnification, its Health Value and strength have tripled…*
