Chapter 40: The Next Target Is the Goblin Tribe!
After a long day of diligent work by the Worker Ants, an entrance to the cave was constructed, along with a bedroom prepared for Queen Ant.
This should have made everyone happy.
But after seeing the goblins’ imposing buildings, Lin Yu lost her enthusiasm.
It was like a child who lived in a simple country house being invited to a friend’s luxurious villa; when they returned home, their family happily told them they would add another floor to their own house.
This made Lin Yu, who came from a wealthy family, feel the disparity between rich and poor once more.
But this time, she was the one who was poor.
…
However, after being troubled for a short while, Lin Yu felt better.
What? I don’t care about that dilapidated shack!
But these guys actually dare to show off in front of me. How terrible! When my lovely daughters grow up, they won’t let you get away with this!
Hey, what? No showing off? I discovered it myself?
I don’t care! It’s showing off! Absolutely unforgivable!
Alright, I just needed to find a goal for myself.
Even in games, there are main quests and final bosses. For now, the goal will be the Goblin Tribe.
But to defeat the Goblin Tribe, with the current number and quality of my ant army, it’s impossible.
I need to begin with something else first.
Anyway, let’s organize the information I gathered today.
The goblin’s edible grass can be found in all four directions, so there is nothing particular about this.
To the south, a new area where rabbits appear has been discovered, and… the fruit on those fruit trees isn’t yet ripe! How frustrating, I really want to eat the fruit!
To the east is the area where the mountain deer often appear, and there are also some wild boars.
To the north, there are many Granville Wolves; it seems that the further north you go, the stronger the monsters become?
To the west, there are quite a few prey, but that is the goblins’ territory, so I won’t disturb them for now.
But! I can send ants to keep watch!
Right now, the enemy is in the open, while the ant swarm is in the shadows.
As long as they are not discovered, the ants will always have the advantage.
To make monitoring and gathering information easier, perhaps I can dig a few new ant holes to the west as long-term lookout points.
…
The task in the west is to establish lookout points and secretly gather information about the Goblin Tribe.
In the east, there are many mountain deer, but the current ant tribe cannot catch them at all, so we will temporarily abandon the east.
In the south, we can let the rabbits breed on their own for now and deal with them later. Besides that, we need to keep watch on those fruit trees, and it would be best to dig one or two new ant nests near the fruit trees.
The goal is to spot the ripe fruit as soon as possible! If the fruit ripens, it will surely attract monsters, and then we can wait for them to come and have endless meat!
But the most important reason is the fruit itself.
If the fruit ripens overnight and gets eaten by other monsters… that situation is completely intolerable!
There is also a small pool in the south, and we need to dig one or two new ant nests here as well.
The purpose is the same as with the fruit trees: to wait for the rabbits!
If the ant nest that monitors the Goblin Tribe ahead is a lookout, then these nests waiting for prey… well, let’s call them trap points?
Ah, let’s call it Harvest Point!
Harvest~ Harvest~
That’s wonderful, I like this word!
Anyway, now there are two Harvest Points.
Finally, to the north.
If we want to make the ant colony stronger, attacking the north is the optimal choice.
As long as we bring more ants and find a small pack of wolves to attack, we should be able to defeat them with minimal losses.
…
So the next day.
A group comprising 5 Military Ants, 20 Weak Ants, and 20 Worker Ants set off to the west to build a watchpoint. They will be divided into 5 small teams to create 5 watchpoints at intervals from each other, near the Goblin Tribe.
A group consisting of 3 Military Ants, 30 Weak Ants, and 30 Worker Ants set off to the south to establish two Harvest Points. This group of ants will be split into 2 small teams to build Harvest Points near the fruit trees and a small pond.
A group composed of 20 Military Ants and 70 Weak Ants set off to conquer the north.
The remaining 40 Worker Ants were left to guard the ant hill.
The reason for leaving only these weaker Worker Ants at the ant hill is that Lin Yu also planned to join the northward exploration team to conquer the north.
This was a decision she contemplated for a long time before finally making up her mind.
There are two reasons.
One reason is to improve hunting efficiency and reduce the losses of the ant group. It is impossible for the ants to leave enemies alive and then bring them back to the ant hill for Lin Yu to finish off. The upgrade of the Queen Ant is undoubtedly the most crucial factor for the development of the entire ant tribe, and to achieve both goals, the Queen Ant needs to venture out too.
Secondly, with Lin Yu joining, the strength of the whole ant colony will significantly increase because of the skill “Leadership,” making it easier to defeat enemies.
As long as we are careful, and with so many ants to protect, I am certain nothing will happen to me!
By the way, we can let a small team of Ants go ahead to scout the path. That way, if we meet unbeatable enemies, I can safely retreat behind their cover!
This is not mother escaping at the last moment!
Because I am weak, staying in one place would only be a hindrance, so I have no alternative.
…
So.
Along the way, the white ant rode on the C Qualification Military Ant, while many Military Ants and Weak Ants encircled the C Qualification Military Ant.
In front of these Military Ants, there was a small team of Weak Ants serving as scouts.
The formidable group made up of 20 Military Ants and 70 Weak Ants can almost defeat a pack of wolves, which only has a few members, without taking any damage or with only minor injuries.
Most of the Granville Wolves they encounter are between Level 8 and Level 10, and their attacking power is stronger than the Level 6 Military Ants, but their defense is not as robust.
However, because of the level difference, in cases where both sides have the skill “Bite,” the strength of the Military Ants is still slightly lower than that of the Granville Wolves.
But their numbers compensate for the difference in strength.
To reduce the casualties of the ant group, whenever a Weak Ant is about to be attacked by a Granville Wolf, it is sufficient to give her the “Leadership” effect; 1 point of Physical Resistance Ability is enough to block most of the damage from the Granville Wolf’s attacks.
Lin Yu felt relieved that they did not encounter any lead wolves with the “Leadership” skill during their journey.
If they had met a Granville Wolf with the “Leadership” skill like the previous lead wolf, the ant group would not have been able to defeat the wolves so effortlessly.
After defeating a total of over fifty Granville Wolves in four encounters, Lin Yu leveled up, and her Magic Value, which was almost depleted from using the “Leadership” skill now and then, instantly recovered completely.
