Chapter 39: Discovery of the Goblin Tribe
On the other side.
The team in the east explored the way, encountering many unexpected creatures during their journey. Most were mountain deer, with several groups spotted along their path. Occasionally, they also observed one or two gray-feathered wild pigs.
Two wild pigs were captured by the exploring team, and the task of defeating them was assigned to the Military Ant, which could still grow stronger. The wild pigs’ bodies were then shared among all the ants, who consumed them immediately.
They also discovered several patches of grass growing goblin edible grass.
Next was the team in the north.
After walking for less than ten minutes, the exploration team encountered a group of 12 Granville Wolf Pack. Since the main body was not present, Lin Yu could not use the skill Identification, so she remained unaware of the specific strength level of this wolf pack.
The exploration team consisted of 5 LV.6 Military Ants plus 20 LV.5 Weak Ants. If the wolf pack was low-level, there might be hope to defeat them, but if they were high-level, they would likely suffer a significant defeat. However, whether they could defeat them or not, fighting would definitely result in heavy losses.
Hmm, best to avoid them for now. After all, their kind had saved her life before.
While it is usually polite to greet someone, given her social anxiety, it’s better to simply ignore them… ignore, ignore…
Under Lin Yu’s command, the exploration team carefully circumnavigated the group of wolves. Because they were cautious enough and maintained a safe distance, the ant group managed to avoid them without any danger.
After avoiding the Granville Wolves, more than ten minutes later…
Here comes another group of Granville Wolves!
There are 17 of them, more numerous than the last group. They are hunting a giant brown snake, larger than a typical python, as thick as more than half the body of a Weak Ant, and nearly twenty meters long.
The battle is fierce, with a few wolves caught in the snake’s coils, appearing badly injured and close to death. The snake is also covered in wounds, bearing many wolf bites, with its belly showing several deep gashes, looking very weak.
If the fighting continues, the wolves will surely emerge victorious. However, a few wolves will likely perish in the process. But if only a few wolves die, there’s no need to join the chaos.
She thought it would be like the previous encounter between bears and wolves, with both sides losing—a bit of a pity. But never mind, wolf meat is harder to eat than bear meat, and raw snake meat is surely unpalatable.
Things that taste bad are not worth regretting at all!
Comforting herself thus, Lin Yu guided the exploration team to avoid the fierce battle and continue heading north.
On the way, they observed from a distance two groups of Granville Wolf Pack facing off. Although Lin Yu was somewhat curious whether they would engage in combat, the number of wolves made her lose interest in watching, and she quickly instructed the ant group to leave carefully.
Because there were too many wolves in the north, Lin Yu decided to have the northern team return first. If they proceeded further, they might encounter even more Granville Wolves or perhaps a giant creature like that massive snake.
They definitely had not encountered Granville Wolves in the east or south, let alone that giant snake.
Hmm…
Does that mean if they go further north, they will meet stronger monsters?
Next is the western team.
The west is the direction from which the goblins originated. On the way, they found several patches of grass where goblin edible grass was growing. One or two patches clearly showed signs of being recently picked.
They continued to walk further west. Along the way, they also saw various wildlife: wild rabbits, snakes, wild boars, and numerous insects.
After spending over an hour, they had traveled quite a distance. After passing through a dense forest—
The view opened up before her.
Lin Yu was suddenly stunned.
What… what is that!!!
One goblin, two goblins, three goblins… wow! There are so many that she couldn’t count!
This was a piece of flat land that had been simply developed, filled with makeshift shelters constructed from wood, branches, and large leaves. Almost a hundred shelters stretched as far as the eye could see.
The shelters looked somewhat shabby due to poor construction, each bearing several holes. Inside and outside these structures, green-skinned goblins were everywhere.
Some were chattering away, some were entangled for unknown reasons, and some were engaged in various activities in broad daylight. Some goblins were eating—consuming whatever they had hunted, some weeds, and others… the bodies of their companions.
A scene of total chaos.
The shelters varied in size, and Lin Yu even observed several huge creatures entering and exiting the large tents. They were Big Goblins. Only six large tents were present, though she couldn’t confirm if each contained just one Big Goblin.
These tightly packed tents were backed against a mountain, and at the mountain’s base was a cave entrance significantly larger than the ant nest cave. Lin Yu noticed two goblins standing on either side of the cave entrance, each holding a long spear.
These two goblins, while not as tall and strong as the Big Goblins, were still two to three times the height of ordinary goblins. The long spears in their hands reflected the sunlight.
The tips of these two spears were made of metal!
Because it was too distant, Lin Yu could not discern the precise appearance of the spears. But whether poorly made or finely crafted, the goblins were using metal to create weapons?
By the way, where did they find the metal?
And that cave…
It was too far to see what lay inside. But it seemed almost certain that the Goblin Tribe’s leader resided within the cave.
She feared it might be a higher-ranking monster.
From an ordinary goblin’s perspective of intelligence, constructing these shelters would be impossible. Plus, the two tall goblins clearly serving as guards, holding long spears…
This Goblin Tribe possessed intelligent individuals!
Lin Yu felt her breathing quicken.
She never expected the western neighbors could be such frightening creatures. If intelligent individuals were present, she could not approach them as she had with previous goblins.
At least until she became stronger, she must avoid provoking them easily!
Speaking of which, were the goblins who had occupied the stone cave part of this tribe? Hmm… Best not to speculate about unconfirmed matters.
Before the exploration team departed, Lin Yu took another comprehensive look at the Goblin Tribe.
A small shed could hold about ten goblins, so a hundred shelters might suggest thousands of goblins. It was challenging to estimate the number of Big Goblins in the large sheds, but she had already observed four.
Undoubtedly, goblins resided in that cave, though their exact number remained unclear.
How amazing…
She wished the ant colony could grow to this size too.
But how could they expand the ant colony… oh!
Well, it seemed there was only one way?
Annoying…
She kept feeling her stomach start to hurt again.
