Chapter 31: The Goblin Is Resting at Night
The Juvenile Military Ant cautiously approached Lin Yu.
Lin Yu’s six limbs tensed as she felt a wave of nervousness.
Then she observed the Juvenile Military Ant kneeling on the ground, its small head nuzzling against its creamy white front limbs.
Suddenly, her tension dissipated.
She found herself wanting to pet its head.
Indeed, Lin Yu extended another front limb and gently caressed the Juvenile Military Ant’s small head.
It felt so pleasant… yet peculiar…
The sensation reminded her of petting her little dog’s head.
A puppy?
Yes, exactly like a puppy! Despite having self-awareness, she felt just as she did with her former little puppy.
Abruptly, a sense of ease washed over her.
If it’s like a puppy, communication won’t be an issue at all! This was the conviction of someone with social anxiety!
Nevertheless, although she felt more certain now, verification was necessary…
Lin Yu established a connection with the C Qualification Military Ant and hesitantly inquired,
“Can you… speak?”
「…」
No response came; instead, the C Qualification Military Ant raised its head and regarded her with a bewildered expression.
Despite the lack of response, Lin Yu’s joy increased.
The C Qualification Military Ant’s reaction mirrored that of her former puppy perfectly.
In the past, upon returning home, she would most frequently hold that little puppy and chat endlessly, unconcerned whether it comprehended her words; she simply continued talking.
This practice made the large house feel less empty.
…
Pat… pat…
The delighted Lin Yu couldn’t resist gently patting the Juvenile Military Ant’s little head with her front leg.
The Juvenile Military Ant appeared equally pleased, lifting its tiny head high to meet Lin Yu’s gesture.
After some time, Lin Yu finally recalled that this C Qualification Military Ant had just hatched and required nourishment.
“Let’s get you some food. Once you’re satisfied, Mommy will play with you.”
The Young Military Ant obediently joined its nineteen companions who were busy feeding.
Boom! Boom!
Lin Yu listened to the sounds of “upstairs renovation” while watching the twenty Young Military Ants eat, feeling somewhat listless.
Unlike its feeding companions, she noticed the C Qualification Weak Ant glancing at its neighbors and the surrounding Worker Ants and Weak Ants observing them eat. It seemed curious about its environment.
While all ants watched the Military Ants feed, the noise from above suddenly ceased.
Judging by the time, darkness must have fallen.
Could it be time for rest?
If so, perhaps this presented an opportunity for a surprise attack while the goblins slumbered.
Indeed, this strategy showed promise!
Lin Yu dispatched a weak ant without special abilities to investigate the situation while maintaining visual contact.
Traversing the passage, she noticed partial collapse from the Big Goblin’s earlier “renovation.”
She quietly summoned several worker ants to clear the fallen debris.
They would pause periodically during the cleanup to listen for sounds, resuming work only when safety was confirmed.
Once the debris was removed, the passage reappeared.
After some distance, peculiar goblin sounds emanated from above, including what seemed to be screams?
Apparently, the goblins hadn’t retired yet.
However, judging by the sound direction, they seemed preoccupied with matters other than the ant nest.
They continued forward.
The goblin voices grew more distinct, and Lin Yu definitely heard one emit a sharp, terrible scream.
The ant nest entrance lay buried under soil, and Lin Yu proceeded with increased caution at this point.
She carefully directed the Worker Ants to excavate through the soil.
Shortly, the passage cleared.
Night had fallen, and the cave was nearly pitch-black, moonlight failing to penetrate its depths.
“Gabba! Gabba!!”
“Ga! Ga!!”
Drawn by the sounds, Lin Yu looked over.
The ant tribe’s night vision capability allowed Lin Yu to observe the goblins’ activities inside the cave.
Oh…
W-What were they… what sort of activity…?
But… what?
The chaotic scene in the cave shocked the inexperienced girl.
Should she be witnessing this?
Continued observation might cost her something irreplaceable…
Moreover, the sight was rather unpleasant; the green-skinned creatures’ actions proved somewhat revolting.
However… surveillance remained necessary; perhaps an opportunity to defeat them would present itself!
She truly wasn’t curious, honestly!
Lin Yu curled up at the ant hole entrance, quietly observing the stone cave’s activities with mingled curiosity and revulsion.
…
That female goblin’s cries seemed particularly tragic…
Speaking of which, some goblins were female, though their small breasts had prevented earlier notice.
Her gaze shifted.
Even that sort of activity occurred here? It seemed genuinely dangerous.
Her gaze shifted again.
Quick! Look there!
A female goblin conversing with the big goblin…
This was simply too… too…
She truly lacked words to describe it…
No wonder the female goblin remained silent; unconsciousness had likely claimed her! How dreadful… Better verify.
Through identification, Lin Yu confirmed the female goblin’s status: “unconscious,” “bleeding,” “pregnant.”
Could it be true? Pregnant?!!
Yet despite unconsciousness and pregnancy, the big goblin persisted… How unjust, though perhaps not her concern.
No, wait… it was her concern!
These brutes, how dare they conduct such activities in another’s dwelling? Unconscionable! Shameful!
From the beginning, a strange odor permeated the air, noticeable even in the fetid cave.
These filthy goblins… their home already reeked, and now they worsened her situation!
…
Lin Yu averted her gaze from the goblins’ activities.
She noticed something else.
First, seven goblin corpses she couldn’t previously retrieve for the anthill lay dismembered, covered in bite marks.
She hadn’t authorized the ants to consume these goblin remains.
Therefore… had the later-arriving goblins consumed them?
Did goblins practice cannibalism?
Additionally, Lin Yu observed that nearly all female goblins engaged in those activities registered as “pregnant.”
