Chapter 207: Untitled
"You… you actually made it out alive? Hahahaha! Impressive, truly impressive!"
Upon seeing the pair, Lit’s eyes widened in disbelief before he burst into relieved laughter.
The others, snapping out of their daze, soon joined in with smiles of their own.
"Escape? Hardly."
Lvzi gestured to the bloodstains marring her clothes.
"We fought our way through, cutting down goblins as we ran. By the end, those cowards didn’t dare give chase anymore."
"W-what?!"
"See? I’m plenty strong on my own. And with Army Lady’s arrows covering me? Those goblins didn’t stand a chance!"
Lvzi’s face shone with triumph.
No one doubted her words, though their expressions still flickered with awe.
…
Days slipped by thereafter.
No further goblin pursuers appeared.
Investigations revealed that Naner Village’s nearest neighbors—two or three settlements—had miraculously escaped the goblins’ notice.
After relocating Naner Village’s survivors to nearby hamlets, both adventurers and soldiers gradually withdrew to town.
Intel regarding the Goblin Tribe, naturally, found its way back to Aowenduo Town.
Meanwhile, within an opulent mansion in the inner city’s heart…
A lavishly appointed study, spacious and lined with books, held a figure silhouetted against floor-to-ceiling windows.
The man—Simon, Lord of Aowenduo Town—stood draped in finery, his gaze distant.
"Over two thousand common goblins… forty to fifty Big Goblins… a dozen-plus Goblin Warriors… with other variants still unaccounted for…"
His murmur hung in the air. "If not from Granville Monster Forest… how could such numbers emerge overnight?"
Silence stretched.
At length, Lit—who had been standing rigidly behind him—could bear it no longer.
"My Lord, what’s our move? Left unchecked, this horde will overrun nearby villages just as they did Naner Village!"
Simon didn’t turn. "The answer’s obvious. Annihilation."
"But the specifics—"
"You’ll have them at your disposal."
"The Guard Knights?"
"Precisely. Laikalis and his men will answer to you temporarily."
Lit’s fist clenched. "Understood!"
Lit nodded, feeling an inward sigh of relief.
Beyond the visible garrison of one thousand infantry and two hundred cavalry in Aowenduo Town, there existed an elite force into which the lord had poured considerable resources for training.
This unit was none other than the Guard Knights – a compact force numbering merely fifty or sixty, yet nearly every member stood as a Class C warrior. Lit himself had been among their ranks before assuming the mantle of legionnaire leader.
Even within this prestigious order, his combat prowess ranked only as middling.
The town, to his knowledge, housed but three Class B warriors. One such figure was Knight Commander Laikalis of the Guard Knights, whose formidable strength Lit knew all too well.
Not even those Big Goblins could likely withstand a single strike from that man, could they?
Wait…
A sudden image flashed through his mind – a green-haired maiden.
Come to think of it, that adventurer called Lvzi was also Class B.
With this realization, Lit promptly made his report to Simon.
…
"A Class B rookie adventurer? You’re telling me she single-handedly repelled a horde of over four hundred goblins?"
Simon turned sharply, astonishment coloring his features.
"There might be some… embellishment involved."
Recalling Lvzi’s triumphant expression, Lit chuckled while shaking his head.
"Though to be precise, she wasn’t alone. A Class C Adventurer accompanied her – skilled with the bow despite the lower rank."
"But they emerged completely unscathed from that goblin swarm, yes?"
"Indeed."
"Fascinating. Have them investigated. Assuming no issues, extend the recruitment offer personally. Such talent would be wasted languishing in the Adventurer’s Guild."
Here, the lord paused, casting an amused glance at Lit.
"Though you remain unchanged – nearly getting yourself killed over a handful of villagers. Had those two girls not intervened, you might not have returned this time, eh?"
"Precisely why I’m unfit for the legionnaire leader’s responsibilities."
Lit joined in the laughter.
With official matters concluded, the atmosphere between them shifted effortlessly into the easy rapport of longtime companions.
…
Subsequently, the Adventurer’s Guild received a commission from Lord Simon of the town – a request for military assistance in subjugating the Goblin Tribe.
Yet upon learning the tribe’s estimated numbers, far fewer adventurers stepped forward compared to previous operations.
The mere thought of confronting over two thousand goblins sent shivers down their spines.
Thus from five hundred registered adventurers, only fifty-odd accepted the dangerous assignment.
For the southern forest campaign against the Goblin Tribe, Lit mobilized eight hundred soldiers alongside the full might of the Guard Knights. This combined force of over nine hundred marched forth from the town gates in formidable array.
Army Lady and Lvzi stood among the gathered adventurers.
During their journey, through casual conversation with legionnaire leader Lit, they learned that Lord Simon appeared interested in recruiting them.
"It seems we’ve successfully drawn the attention of the town’s lord," Lvzi remarked.
As they continued forward, Lvzi wrapped her arms around the blonde girl’s waist and leaned in to whisper in her ear.
"Don’t cling so close to me."
Army Lady, guiding the horse, frowned and raised her right hand to push away the green-haired girl’s approaching head.
Though they could have ridden separately, Lvzi had insisted on sharing a mount.
"Don’t be so shy~"
Dodging Army Lady’s swatting hand, Lvzi continued, "Still, that knight order seems stronger than most adventurers in the guild."
She gestured ahead, and Army Lady followed her gaze toward the fully armored knights.
They had been periodically appraising these warriors throughout their travels.
All were Class C—except for the golden-haired, stern-faced man leading them, who stood at the lower tier of Class B!
This marked their first encounter with a Class B human.
"I wonder just how strong he is?"
Observing the Knight Commander, Army Lady felt a spark of competitive excitement.
…
As the party drew nearer to the Goblin Tribe…
Meanwhile, deep within the forest’s Fog Zone…
A day before the goblins assaulted Naner Village, after days of travel, Stealth One finally returned to the castle.
While awaiting her arrival, aside from keeping tabs on Army Lady and Lvzi, Lin Yu had replenished her Magic Value to full by consuming a Magic Recovery Potion.
The remaining potion should suffice for one more complete restoration.
She channeled the restored magic into Stealth One, bestowing upon her the abilities "Proficient in all Languages" and "Disguise."
Since Stealth One’s human form appeared to meet the adventurer age requirement of fourteen or older, Lin Yu considered her ready to join Army Lady and Lvzi’s Adventurer Squad.
In human guise, Stealth One took the form of a young woman around twenty years of age, standing nearly a head taller than Lin Yu.
Her long gray hair framed bright silver eyes, and her composed bearing carried traces of resemblance to the white-haired girl upon closer inspection.
Perhaps due to their shared quiet nature, Lin Yu found Stealth One’s presence oddly familiar.
And—
The girl couldn’t resist another glance at Stealth One’s chest.
Even in that regard, they were nearly identical.
