Chapter 206: The Resurgence of the Goblins
Hearing the commotion, the group swiftly exited the building to witness a horde of green-skinned goblins charging from the south, their grotesque shrieks piercing the air as they advanced with alarming speed.
The swarm appeared significantly larger than the goblin forces that had previously overrun Naner Village. More concerning still, among their ranks marched over twenty hulking Big Goblins.
"Damn it! There’s too many of them!"
Lit’s expression darkened considerably.
The goblins’ arrival had outpaced even his most pessimistic estimates.
Fortunately, direct confrontation wasn’t necessary.
"Captain! The horses are prepared!"
"Good. We leave immediately."
Lit lifted the surviving female villager onto his steed as the others mounted in haste.
Just as they cleared the village outskirts, another goblin contingent materialized before them.
"Goblins to the north as well?"
The new group numbered only thirty or forty, with merely two Big Goblins – but wait, was that a Goblin Warrior among them? A scouting party for the main horde?
"They’re trying to flank us… Hellspawn! There must be intelligent mutated goblins commanding these creatures!"
"Avoid engagement! Break through their lines!"
Yet Lit soon realized his grave miscalculation.
While their mounts could outpace the goblins, the creatures proved frighteningly adept with projectile weapons.
The Goblin Warrior produced a bow with startling dexterity, its arrow finding its mark in a warhorse’s flank.
The wounded beast reared violently, throwing its rider.
Not to be outdone, the two Big Goblins hurled fist-sized stones with brutal accuracy, striking several more horses.
Chaos erupted within their formation.
At that critical moment, retaliatory arrows sang through the air.
Impossibly swift, one shaft pierced the Goblin Warrior’s skull with surgical precision, dropping the creature instantly.
Lit whirled to see Army Lady, the golden-haired warrior, already nocking another arrow on her aged but well-crafted longbow.
Before he could blink, she loosed two more shots with blinding speed.
Thwip—
Thwip—
"Grak!"
"Gahb!!"
With two agonized howls, the two massive Big Goblins crashed thunderously to the ground.
Yet in that brief moment, the remaining ordinary goblins had already surged forward, encircling the disarrayed troops.
"Slay them and break through!"
At Lit’s command, the soldiers cut down the goblins blocking their path and those leaping onto their horses.
But that momentary delay proved costly—the southern goblin horde, which had still been at a distance, had now closed in alarmingly.
Bowling-sized stones whistled through the air toward them.
"Look out!"
Lit’s face paled with alarm.
The projectiles came too swiftly—neither the soldiers nor Lit himself could spur their mounts to evade in time.
Just then, a green-clad figure vaulted from her saddle.
With metallic *clangs* and a flurry of blade flashes, the incoming stones were cleaved midair, splitting apart before clattering to the ground.
"Go now! Army Lady and I will hold them off!"
"But you—"
"Enough talk! Any more delays and none of us escape!"
*Not that I couldn’t make these goblins flee if I unleashed my full power…*
Lvzi added silently.
"Understood!"
Lit knew better than to argue. He gave a terse nod.
"Stay safe! Rejoin us quickly!"
"Will do!"
…
When Lit finally glanced back after putting considerable distance between them, his expression froze in stunned disbelief.
The goblin army wasn’t pursuing them at all—instead, it was surging in the opposite direction.
And at its forefront…
The green-haired girl rode hard while the golden-haired one twisted in her saddle, her bowstring singing as she loosed arrows—each shaft finding its mark, whether piercing Big Goblins or shattering incoming stones mid-flight.
*They… diverted the entire horde…*
*Damn them—have they no regard for their lives?!*
His vision tinged crimson, Lit wheeled his mount to charge after them.
"Don’t render their sacrifice meaningless."
The armored male adventurer barred his path.
"Move!"
"It’s too far. We’d never reach them in time."
The Goblin Killer’s muffled voice beneath his armor trembled with restrained emotion.
"Damn it… damn it!"
Lit’s chest heaved violently with barely contained rage.
He knew full well that their group could accomplish nothing – even with the addition of those departed soldiers and adventurers, the outcome would remain unchanged.
This goblin horde was far more formidable than the previous one.
Truth be told, their earlier victory against the goblins had largely depended on those two girls’ exceptional performance.
Wait… if that were the case, perhaps those two might actually emerge unscathed?
…
Meanwhile, elsewhere.
After being driven into a small copse by pursuing goblins.
"Still in sight?"
"Lost them."
Army Lady nocked an arrow, shattering an incoming stone projectile as she scanned the horizon where Lit’s party had vanished.
"Perfect! Now let’s exterminate these pests!"
"Agreed."
A thrill of excitement coursed through Army Lady – it had been too long since she’d encountered such plentiful prey.
They dismounted in unison.
Army Lady’s eyes gleamed with lethal focus as she drew her longsword, becoming a golden blur that carved through the goblin ranks, leaving dismembered corpses in her wake.
Lvzi swept both hands forward, conjuring volleys of corrosive acid that fanned outward in deadly arcs.
Goblins writhed and shrieked as the dual corrosive and toxic properties melted them into unrecognizable flesh mounds.
Within moments, dozens fell – including a hulking Big Goblin – slaughtered by the deadly duo.
Neither common goblins nor their larger brethren could withstand their assault.
Soon, the surviving goblins broke ranks with panicked screeches, scattering into the wilderness.
Lvzi caught Army Lady’s arm as the warrior prepared to pursue.
"Enough now, no need to chase."
Tilting her chin up proudly, Lvzi continued,
"That little performance should’ve greatly improved our standing with that human Lit, don’t you think? Heehee! Pretty brilliant plan, right Army Lady?"
"Acceptable."
"Oh come on, praise me properly!"
"…"
Army Lady pointedly ignored her.
As twilight approached,
They finally located Lit’s somber procession trudging along the path.
The journey continued in heavy silence.
Lvzi cleared her throat and rubbed her cheeks.
She tugged Army Lady forward as they emerged from the foliage.
"We’re back!"
The verdant-haired girl called cheerfully to the distant figures, both warriors still spattered with the visceral remnants of their goblin slaughter.
