Chapter 202: Accepting the Commission
The Adventurer’s Guild housed over five hundred adventurers, yet only about two hundred had gathered there that morning—the others were presumably still engaged in their ongoing commissions.
Upon hearing the emergency announcement, the majority of adventurers chose to accept the commission.
To avoid the tedious process of registering one by one, they simply tossed their Adventurer IDs onto the counter and hurried out of the guild.
Among the remaining few, some were novice adventurers who had just turned fourteen—still weak and inexperienced. Knowing that even an ordinary goblin could prove fatal to them, they wisely stayed behind, aware they would only be a hindrance.
Others declined either out of laziness or sheer cowardice.
To each their own—commissions weren’t mandatory, and the risks varied. No one openly criticized them, but the sidelong glances they received carried unmistakable disdain.
What kind of adventurer shrinks from danger?
Will and his two companions, brimming with youthful vigor, were the first to fling down their Adventurer IDs and dash out.
Following their lead, Army Lady and Lvzi also placed their IDs on the counter.
Elena’s stern expression softened into a slight smile at the sight of their credentials.
"With you two joining, this mission should go much smoother."
"Leave it to us! Just a bunch of goblins—piece of cake!"
Lvzi’s eyes gleamed with calculation.
Her mother had advised that after settling into a town, gaining the lord’s favor could lead to special privileges—like lifting the purchase restrictions on Magic Recovery Potions.
Excelling in this mission might just kill multiple birds with one stone.
Who knew such an opportunity would arise so soon?
"Don’t underestimate those green skins."
A man clad in head-to-toe armor strode forward, his voice curt. He tossed his Adventurer ID onto the counter without ceremony.
"Your assistance is appreciated once again, Mr. Goblin Killer."
"Mn."
With a nod, the peculiar armored figure exited the guild without another word.
Noticing Lvzi and Army Lady’s puzzled looks, Elena chuckled.
"That man has exclusively taken goblin-slaying commissions for years. He’s a true expert—his presence is quite reassuring."
"I see."
A quick appraisal revealed the retreating armored man to be Class C, Level 24—on par with Martina of Wings of Freedom.
A potential rival, perhaps?
"Army Lady, let’s get moving!"
"Right."
Lvzi finally released her grip on Army Lady’s arm. The two rented a horse in town and set off toward Naner Village.
Through Army Lady’s shared vision, Lin Yu became aware of the goblin situation.
Naner Village… The Ant Colony’s scouts hadn’t extended their reach that far yet.
Moreover, the goblin horde didn’t seem to have emerged from Granville Monster Forest, but rather from other hills or woodlands nearby.
After all, besides Granville Forest, the town was surrounded by numerous hills and forests of varying sizes.
But a village attacked by goblins…
Memories of previous encounters with goblins flashed through her mind.
It’s bound to be horrific…
…
…
Approximately two days later, adventurers began arriving at Naner Village in steady streams.
By then, the lord’s army was already engaged in combat with goblins both within and outside the village. The air was filled with agonized screams as blood painted the village crimson.
"It’s his lordship’s forces."
"The battle seems freshly joined – let’s move!"
The adventurers swiftly joined the fray.
Goblins possess overwhelming sexual urges. While they typically mate with their own kind, this doesn’t preclude them from breeding with other species.
Though the gestation period is longer compared to female goblins, there remains a chance that interspecies mating could produce new goblins.
When confined to Monster Forests, goblins pose less danger as they become prey for other monsters.
But when they invade human settlements, the situation changes drastically. Unless eradicated promptly, their numbers multiply at an alarming rate.
The lord had deployed a hundred cavalry and over three hundred infantry – nearly half the town’s garrison – aiming for swift resolution to prevent further devastation.
The soldiers naturally outclassed ordinary goblins. With caution, each could handle one or even multiple regular goblins.
However, the Big Goblins presented greater challenge.
Only one towering knight in gleaming silver armor could single-handedly overpower a Big Goblin, while others required two or three soldiers working in concert.
"Captain Lit! The adventurers have arrived!"
"Excellent."
The knight called Lit swung his massive greatsword, severing the thick club-wielding arm of a Big Goblin before following through with an upward diagonal slash.
With a sickening crunch, the Big Goblin’s head went flying as its massive body collapsed thunderously.
The knight laughed heartily before bellowing:
"Slaughter these beasts! Leave none alive!"
"Aye!"
"Aye!"
Morale surged among the troops. With adventurer reinforcements, they drove the goblins into retreat.
Among these adventurers were Army Lady and Lvzi.
They spearheaded the assault.
Moving with even greater precision than Lit, they leaped before the Big Goblins. A single sword stroke sent oversized heads rolling, and upon landing, they effortlessly dispatched nearby goblins.
Without pause, they carved through the ranks toward the nearest Big Goblins.
By the time they felled their second Big Goblin, the adventurer called Goblin Killer was still battling his first.
Leveraging his expertise, he deftly evaded attacks while landing precise strikes. Though insufficient for immediate kills, the Big Goblin’s pained howls confirmed effective damage.
His efficiency surpassed Lit’s, yet paled beside the golden and green whirlwinds ahead.
"Gaba!! Gaba!!"
Finally breaking, the goblins fled southward in panic.
As adventurers gave chase, Lit called them back:
"Prioritize the villagers! Besides, these vermin excel at fleeing—"
Before he finished, Lvzi – moving with startling speed – overtook and eliminated a straggling Big Goblin.
The remaining Big Goblins and their underlings had escaped beyond practical pursuit. With a dismissive pout, Lvzi returned.
Lit studied Army Lady and Lvzi intently.
"Soldiers, assess casualties among our ranks and villagers. Adventurers, survey nearby settlements."
Pausing, he addressed the two women:
"Might you investigate the goblin tribe in the southern forest?"
