Chapter 159: Young People Shouldn’t Be Too Arrogant!
"Hey, you guys."
The voice came from behind.
Turning around, there stood a bald, muscular man.
"Is there something you need?"
"You…"
The bald man seemed momentarily stunned by Army Lady’s appearance, pausing briefly before regaining his composure.
"Our master wishes to switch places with you."
"Switch places? Hey, are you trying to cut in line?"
Mayer’s expression darkened as he leapt down from the ox cart, gripping his long sword.
Will and Sally quickly followed suit.
"Oh, so you’re adventurers?"
"That’s right, if you want to cut in line, you’ll have to get past my sword first!"
Mayer brandished his iron sword at the bald, burly man.
Will and Sally also drew their weapons.
"Huh, just a couple of kids. Aside from this little beauty, neither of you even has decent armor. What kind of adventurers are you? Take a look at the adventurers our lord has hired."
The burly man gestured with his thumb towards a grand carriage behind him.
The carriage was larger than the ox cart, and the wood used appeared far more luxurious.
In front of the carriage stood a middle-aged man with a goatee, his thin face exuding a sharp, shrewd aura as he glanced over.
Surrounding the carriage were four mounted adventurers—one woman and three men. Their armor and weapons were of superior quality, at least Lin Yu hadn’t seen any adventurers in the other line with gear as refined as theirs.
These four adventurers appeared to be in their twenties, sitting on their horses with an air of amusement. The leading male adventurer even whistled at Lin Yu, his expression cocky.
"It’s them…"
"Those annoying guys."
"Who are they?"
Lin Yu asked coldly.
The whistling man reminded her of a street thug she had encountered before.
Such types were the most troublesome, always causing issues, especially the leader with his infuriatingly smug face.
"They’re the C-class Adventurer Squad from the guild—Wings of Freedom. Though their name sounds grand, their reputation is no better than the local troublemaker in our village. Speaking of which, that troublemaker used to be a member of this Adventurer Squad but was kicked out for being too low-level."
Will explained with a grim expression.
"The handsome leader has no idea how many female adventurers from the guild he’s toyed with. The other two men take pleasure in bullying new adventurers, and the last one, a woman with a scar across her face, is a heavy drinker and gambler. She’s the strongest and has a volatile temper; almost no one dares to provoke her except for the guildmaster."
"Is she a high-level Class C adventurer?"
"Yes, among all the adventurers, she ranks in the top three. The Wings of Freedom Adventurer Squad is also one of the top-ranked Adventurer Squads in the guild."
"Unlike the village ruffian, these guys, though annoying, at least complete their tasks well, with few complaints from clients. Plus, their high level of strength keeps them from being expelled from the guild like him."
…
"Got it? If you don’t want trouble, then step aside."
The burly man spoke up only after Will had finished explaining.
He craned his neck to peek into the wagon and then snorted with laughter.
"What are you laughing at?"
"What’s in there, crops like rice and beans? Pfft—how much could they possibly fetch? They’re nothing compared to our master’s goods."
"Your cart can’t match ours, your goods can’t match ours, and even your people… Hey, standing in front of us is just an eyesore."
Comparing everything, are you? Are you in grade school?
Lin Yu silently stared at the bald man.
"But our master is generous."
The strong man pulled a small silver coin from his pocket, flicked it with his thumb, and it flew out, smacking Mayer right in the face with a sharp "smack."
"Hahaha, here’s your compensation, take it and scram."
"This is outrageous!"
The young man who was struck was furious. He picked up the small silver coin that had hit his face and hurled it to the ground, then grabbed his sword, ready to charge.
"Don’t be rash, Mayer!"
Another young man quickly intervened, also glaring at the strong man.
"You should be the ones leaving; this is our spot!"
"Oh, looking for a fight? Do you think you can take on the adventurer we’ve hired?"
The bald strong man sneered as he approached the two boys, patting Mayer’s cheek with his hand.
"Young man, don’t be so impulsive!"
"You jerk!"
The boy finally lost his temper and kicked out at the strong man in front of him.
Unexpectedly, his foot was caught in the strong grip of the bald man.
Then, the young man was kicked hard in the stomach by the big man and was flung several meters away.
"Is this what an adventurer is? Pathetically weak, hahahaha…"
"Mayer!!"
Sally rushed over.
Will, unable to hold back any longer, gripped his small round shield and short sword and charged forward.
But this time, the attacking big man did not fight back; instead, he turned and fled.
"Help! Noble adventurers!"
"Ah, what a nuisance, even at the town gate we can’t avoid trouble."
The handsome adventurer at the forefront leaped gracefully from his horse, positioning himself in front of the bald, burly man while brandishing his longsword.
The assault was sudden, and Will hastily raised his short sword to parry.
Yet, the adversary’s strength was evidently far superior to the boy’s; a seemingly effortless strike caused the boy’s hand gripping the short sword to bleed, and his defensive stance to falter.
Noticing that the boy managed to block his attack, the handsome man raised an eyebrow and then delivered a swift kick, sending Will flying.
The boy soared through the air and landed on the ground before Lin Yu.
He struggled to rise, then involuntarily spat out blood, indicating some internal injuries.
"Hehe, I didn’t expect to find gold in the sand."
The handsome man disregarded the trembling boy and shifted his gaze to the girl standing behind him, clad in intricately engraved silver light armor, tall and strikingly beautiful with golden hair.
"Oh, oh~ Such a beautiful person; in all my years as an adventurer, I have never encountered anyone more beautiful than you."
He ignored Will’s furious glare and sauntered over leisurely.
"Beautiful lady, or should I say, beautiful warrior? I have seen the lady adventurers in the Adventurer’s Guild, but I don’t recall seeing you before."
"I am not an adventurer yet."
"Oh? From your tone, it seems you are considering joining the town guild?"
"Hmm."
"That sounds splendid! If you don’t mind, would you like to join us? Although our team only has four members, we do have a bit of a reputation in the Adventurer’s Guild."
The man flashed a confident smile, as if victory was assured.
"What reputation? The flirtatious rogue Sylvestre?"
The boy beside them wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and sneered.
"Smelly kid."
The man’s smile faded, and he swiftly moved in front of the boy.
"You really don’t understand the peril; we’re outside the town, and even if I kill you—"
The man’s mouth twisted into a grin as he swung his sword down.
Clash—
To his astonishment, a sword that emerged from the side effortlessly blocked his full-force strike.
"Isn’t it against the law to kill someone outside the town?"
The voice came from the side, cold and detached.
