Chapter 11: Fresh Meat!
After killing the slime, the exploration team continued moving forward.
About twenty minutes later…
A rustling sound came from within a patch of grass.
Lin Yu ordered the captain ant to carefully part the grass.
…
Ah, a yellow-haired piglet!
Meat! Edible meat! Fresh meat!
Oh no, I’m drooling.
Okay, calm down. I need to stay calm.
Even though it’s a piglet, it’s still about the size of two or three [Weak Ants] put together.
The ants spread out, quietly surrounding the piglet. With the tall grass providing cover and their movements staying quiet, the piglet didn’t immediately notice anything unusual.
By the time it realized something was off and stopped eating, it was already too late.
In front of it stood six [Weak Ants], including the captain. Behind them, fifteen more [Weak Ants] formed an even larger encirclement.
Hehehe, you’re completely surrounded! And even if you surrender, I won’t let you go!
Lin Yu ordered one of the front-line ants to initiate the attack.
Just like before with the slime, it jumped forward to pounce on the piglet.
Yes, this was the same warrior that had landed the first strike on the slime! Looks like it wanted to use the same attack strategy.
Well, technically, it was just following my orders.
Wait—it missed?!
The piglet dodged sideways in a quick burst of movement, avoiding the attack entirely.
Unlike the slime, this one’s much faster!
But where do you think you’re going? You can’t escape!
The piglet instinctively tried to run, but after glancing around and realizing it was surrounded, it hesitated.
The five other front-line [Weak Ants] attacked next.
At first, the piglet managed to dodge two, but it couldn’t evade the last three. However, even as it was pinned, it violently kicked and struggled, throwing off all three ants.
Hmm, five wasn’t enough.
‘Alright, your turn, captain!’
Receiving its mother’s command, the captain ant struck just as the piglet was exhausted from struggling.
Chomp!
The captain’s mandibles sank deep into the piglet’s side, slicing open a large gash.
“Squeeeeaaalll!!”
The piglet screamed in agony, its cries so sharp and piercing that Lin Yu flinched.
‘Quick! Finish it!’
The other five front-line ants immediately swarmed it.
A few breaths later, the piglet stopped moving. Blood pooled beneath its body, its scent spreading through the air.
Only one of the attacking [Weak Ants] gained experience, meaning only the one that dealt the killing blow received XP, while the assisting ants got nothing.
Lin Yu quickly checked—
The experience bar for the victorious ant shot up from 0% to 94%!
While this was exciting, there was also a new problem—the piglet’s cries and the scent of blood might attract predators.
Should we retreat?
…
Leaving with the entire exploration team would be a waste. Splitting the team would be more efficient.
Decision made, Lin Yu ordered the ants to quickly butcher the piglet into four parts.
The sight was brutal, and Lin Yu felt uneasy.
She had already seen them devour her mother’s corpse, but that hadn’t made her immune to gore.
Her stomach still churned. She had just learned to barely hold back the urge to vomit.
The blood smell grew even stronger, but moving the entire piglet at once wasn’t feasible—it was larger than two or three [Weak Ants]. Cutting it up was the only way to transport it.
Four [Weak Ants] carried the meat while six other ants served as guards.
Since the group was split, Lin Yu had to split her focus, linking her vision between the captain ant and the returning transport team.
Her field of view split into two separate perspectives.
It felt disorienting, like watching two screens at once.
This was her first time trying such an operation, and it was overwhelming. But she had to adapt—both groups needed her oversight.
“SQUEEEAALL!!”
Just as the returning team left, another shrill cry echoed.
That sounded just like the piglet!
And it was close to the transport team!
Oh no—killing the small one brought out the big one!
From the transport team’s vision, Lin Yu saw a massive yellow-haired boar charging toward them.
While it wasn’t as enormous as the bear, it was roughly the same size as her mother.
Unlike the piglet, this one had a long, curved horn on its head.
As it charged, it kicked up dirt and grass. The ground shook slightly from its speed.
We ran into a boss monster already?!
Mother had been D-rank, LV.1, with 110 HP, 2 Strength, and 1 Agility.
This boar looked about the same size, so if its stats were similar, they could try to fight it.
But if it was stronger…
Can we even win?
Wait, even if we can’t win—we can’t run either!
The cave was still at least ten minutes away, and the boar was way too fast.
The bloodstained ants won’t be able to hide.
No choice. We have to fight.
…
Just kidding! No way!
A beast this big could crush a [Weak Ant] with a single charge!
Alright, we need to use the environment!
Those trees!
There were several large trees nearby. If the ants could get behind them, the boar wouldn’t be able to ram into them directly.
The ants immediately moved.
Even the four carrying meat dropped their loads and ran.
Each of the ten ants scattered, hiding behind different trees.
By this point, the boar had almost reached them.
Seeing the butchered piglet pieces lying on the ground, its eyes turned blood-red.
“SQUEEEEALLLL!!”
Letting out a furious roar, the boar charged even faster.
Losing all reason, it targeted one of the four trees sheltering the ants.
BOOM–!
With a thunderous crash, the tree shook violently, leaves raining down.
But despite the force, the tree didn’t fall.
And more importantly—
The boar’s horn had embedded itself deep into the tree trunk!
