Chapter 107: Three Years Later
Three years have passed.
Here lies the Granville Monster Forest, one of the largest and most perilous forests on the continent.
Above, the vast azure sky stretches clear and cloudless to the distant horizon.
Beneath this sky, an equally expansive green sea sways with ripples under the occasional breeze.
Underneath this seemingly tranquil greenery, the daily drama of hunting and being hunted, killing and being killed unfolds—a norm for this forest, and indeed, for this world.
On the western edge of this great forest, a small area is perpetually enveloped in a white mist.
Adventurers often refer to it as the Forest Fog Zone, or more ominously, the Death Fog Zone.
On the southern fringe of the Fog Zone stands a massive, ancient castle. Through the mist, one can discern teams of ant-like monsters patrolling around the castle.
On the third-floor balcony of this castle, a pair of wooden tables and chairs are set. The table is laden with a heap of fruits and a large barrel of tea, while seated on the chair is a pure white ant monster with strikingly bright red eyes.
…
So tedious…
If memory serves, including today, it’s been three years since I arrived in this forest, hasn’t it?
The ant population has surged from just over ten thousand to more than thirty thousand.
Three new ant nests have been established: the sixth, seventh, and eighth, along with numerous branch and lookout nests.
The ant population could have been even larger, but as levels have increased, the number of eggs laid seems to have hit a ceiling. No matter how much the Magic Value Limit is raised, it doesn’t increase the number of eggs laid each time.
The maximum number of eggs laid at once is 500.
With the number of eggs at its limit, the priority of the Gift Option has temporarily been relegated, and the Magic Value Limit has also been pushed down the list.
There are now many more B Qualification ants in the colony, even among the Worker Ants and Weak Ants.
Yet, after three years, there are still only three A Qualification ants: Red Pupil, Army Lady, and Lvzi…
Unlucky?
It seems to have surpassed mere misfortune…
But it hardly matters now; three years have shattered my aspirations of becoming European.
Currently, to produce ants with B Qualification or higher, we must advance from Class B to Class A!
The first egg after upgrading is likely to yield higher-quality eggs!
That’s how it has always been.
After advancing from no class to Class D, the first Military Ant born had a C Qualification. After moving from Class D to Class C, the first Red Pupil and Little Tear born had an A Qualification and a B Qualification, respectively. After progressing from Class C to Class B, the first Army Lady and Lvzi born had an A Qualification.
It stands to reason that the first offspring after advancing from Class B to Class A should also possess a high qualification!
And it must be an A Qualification, or even higher!
However, there’s a catch.
Upgrading from Class B to Class A is exceedingly difficult…
If the speed of upgrading before Class B was akin to the human race running, then after reaching Class B, it’s more like a turtle’s pace.
In these three years, everyone has been diligently hunting, and even Red Pupil and the others have spent most of their time out hunting, bringing back live advanced monsters every day.
As a result, the dungeon on the first floor of the castle is always full.
Each cell is filled with a few bloodied monsters, their limbs rendered useless.
Delivering the final blow to these weakened monsters and gaining their experience has become one of my daily tasks.
Ah, it’s not just Red Pupil and her friends; even Lvzi is no exception.
It seems that after a few conversations with Red Pupil, she decided to let me go.
Then, I worked hard to hunt every day with Army Lady and sent the advanced monsters we hunted to the castle’s dungeon.
Even though it’s uncomfortable to be stared at by Lvzi all the time, when she suddenly stops, I feel a strange sense of loss.
Because of the efforts of these girls, my leveling up speed is even faster than Army Lady’s.
But even so, it has taken almost three years and I still haven’t leveled up.
I’m so close.
Right now, my level is Class B LV.40, and the experience progress bar has reached two-thirds complete.
I probably need to kill twenty more Class B monsters? Or maybe thirty? That should let me rise to Class A.
…
"Mom, Mom!"
At that moment, Lin Yu, who was leisurely enjoying her afternoon tea on the third-floor balcony, heard a voice coming from the hallway.
It was Little Tear.
Only she would run and shout down the hallway like that.
Sure enough, the huge Iron Armored Ant quickly came into view.
She looked very excited.
Have Red Pupil and the others come back? From the look on Little Tear’s face, today’s hunt must have gone well.
Because Lin Yu was worried that her somewhat silly daughter might have an accident, she decided to keep her inside the castle.
Little Tear’s daily tasks included eating and checking on the injured monsters in the dungeon.
Normally, the injured monsters didn’t need supervision, since they would turn into fresh food after just one more hit.
But I didn’t want to go down every time a monster arrived just to finish it off.
Usually, I would only go down in the evening.
Or I would go down when Red Pupil and Army Lady returned, as they usually brought back higher-level injured monsters. Even though these monsters were in bad shape and had their limbs broken, they were still high-level, so it was best to deal with them quickly.
"What happened?"
"This time, we caught a Class A Monster!"
Little Tear shouted excitedly after running up to Lin Yu.
"Class A?"
Lin Yu was surprised.
Have they entered that area?
If you explore deeper to the north, you will find Class A monsters living there. These monsters are surprisingly not as aggressive as Class B and lower monsters.
But this is true for the Class A monsters.
If two Class A monsters meet face to face, they usually do not fight immediately. Instead, they watch each other carefully until one of them leaves.
However, if a Class B monster intrudes into their territory, it is different. If they spot the Class B monster, they will attack it. If other Class A monsters appear during this, they will temporarily unite to deal with the invading Class B monster.
After experiencing some troubles, Lin Yu marked the areas where these Class A monsters appear as dangerous.
"Take me there."
"Okay, Mom!"
Lin Yu quickly jumped on Little Tear’s back.
Behind them, a few shadows followed, but you wouldn’t notice them unless you looked closely.
While riding Little Tear, Lin Yu felt a little excited.
If she could defeat this Class A Monster, she might be able to level up!
Although Class A Monsters are not easy to hunt, neither Red Pupil nor Army Lady would act recklessly; they wouldn’t enter that area without being sure of their plan.
Was it Red Pupil or Army Lady who captured it alive?
Both Red Pupil and Army Lady have reached Class B LV.39, currently the highest levels in the ant group besides herself.
They are the most likely ants to capture a Class A Monster alive.
"Little Tear——"
"Mom?"
Well, never mind, I will know who did it when I get downstairs.
