Chapter 6: Gothic Lolita Is Cutely Decorated With Frills IV
Of course, Haruka-neesan wasn’t anywhere to be seen in the arcade, and my phone had a mountain of missed calls and messages. For now, I decided to let her know I was safe and return to Haruka-neesan’s house, while keeping a watchful eye on my surroundings.
Even though I chose as many less crowded rural paths as possible during lunchtime, there were people eating by the rice fields and farms, so my Gothic Lolita outfit stood out quite a bit. After several detours, I finally arrived, and underneath the thick fabric, I couldn’t stop sweating.
As I entered Haruka-neesan’s room, while avoid being seen by the aunt, I locked eyes with Haruka-neesan, who was nervously pacing around the room.
“Nao, where have you been?”
“I ran away because there were classmates around. Then, I kept running into people I knew.”
I knew it was a weak excuse, but would I be able to get away with it? I certainly couldn’t tell her I was kidnapped by Rei-sama, or that I became someone’s doll or that I was pretending to be her girlfriend. Haruka-neesan wouldn’t believe that.
“I was really worried about you, you know.”
“Well, I’m safe now, aren’t I?”
The whole situation stemmed from this cross-dressing, but even mentioning that would only result in Haruka-neesan crying her eyes out. Before it came to that, I wanted to get out of this Gothic Lolita outfit as soon as possible.
“Can I change for now?”
“Oh, right.”
I had Haruka-neesan step out of the room and changed from the sweat-soaked Gothic Lolita dress into my own clothes. I had worn similar outfits a few times, but it was my first time being pressed against a wall or wearing them for such a long time.
After quickly tidying up my changed clothes, I called out to Haruka-neesan who was outside the room.
“Sorry, I might have made a mess.”
“It’s fine. But, who was the person you were running away from?”
“I told you, it was a classmate.”
“You didn’t need to run away.”
I could swear, no matter which class it was, I would run away with all my might. There wouldn’t be any friend who would be okay with seeing me like this. If there were such friends, I definitely wouldn’t want them to know this secret. Just imagining it makes me feel heavy-hearted.
“Haruka-neesan, if I had been found out, I won’t go to school or even leave my room anymore.”
I’d be heading straight for the path of social withdrawal. I couldn’t see myself recovering. I don’t even want Rei-sama to know I’m a boy.
“Then we wouldn’t be able to go out together.”
“Is that your first concern?“
Couldn’t you think a bit more about my future? Even though I don’t fully understand it myself. Finally back in comfortable clothes, I sat on the edge of Haruka-neesan’s bed.
“That’s a lie. It would be a problem if Nao became a hikikomori.”
Haruka-neesan sat on the carpet, hugging her favorite cushion to her chest. Normally, it would be the other way around, but our room arrangement is this way. Haruka-neesan wants to be in a slightly lower position, and I want to sit higher. This way, my viewpoint is higher, and it makes our height differences feel reversed.
“So, why don’t you wear it instead?”
“I can’t do that. It wouldn’t suit me at all.”
“If that’s what you’re saying, then I’m a boy!”
My tone grew intense. Even though I tried not to let it bother me, being kidnapped probably made a big impact on me. Haruka-neesan didn’t seem to be affected at all. Of course, since I hadn’t told her anything about what happened today. If I’m safe, it would just be a funny story.
“Oh, I’m sorry.”
It was too late to apologize after reconsidering. Haruka-neesan’s eyes were already filled with tears. I had heard that she was usually reliable and dependable at school, but in front of me, Haruka-neesan’s mind seemed to be about seventy percent filled with tears. They easily overflowed with the slightest shock.
“If I could, I would do it! It’s impossible! I’m the Giant God Warrior, after all!
“So, I’m really sorry.”
In a hurry, I moved closer to Haruka-neesan and patted her head in an attempt to comfort her. Even though she should be older than me, she seemed like a troublesome child. Maybe she understood that I wasn’t angry. She stopped crying loudly but was still a bit teary.
“Next time, you’ll wear it again.”
“Y-yeah, got it.”
In the end, it turned out like this. With Haruka-neesan in this state, I don’t feel confident at all that I’ll be able to handle Rei-sama really well. I sighed quietly, trying not to be heard, while gently patting Haruka-neesan’s head, who’s still sobbing.
