Chapter 35: The Iron Pot of Justice
In L City, on the British Isles
Wayne Jenkins wrapped a towel around his hair and emerged from the bathroom, showing no concern for the water droplets that fell onto the room’s high-quality wool carpet.
He glanced at the half-naked woman on the bed and impatiently slapped her cheek.
Her hazy eyes opened, as if she were just returning to reality from a moment of ecstasy. Instinctively, she tried to embrace Jenkins’ waist but was pushed away by his hand.
“Get up and leave quickly; I have important matters to attend to later.”
The woman shivered, finally becoming fully awake, “What did you give me?”
“Just something to enhance the mood. You usually use it anyway, don’t you?” Wayne Jenkins picked up the wallet on the table, extracted a neat stack of hundred-dollar bills, and tossed them onto her. “Take this, any extra is a bonus.”
At first, the woman wanted to say more, but her attention was quickly drawn to the money. A hint of joy flashed in her eyes, and her sluggish movements suddenly became quick. She hastily gathered the cash, neatly stacking each bill, and couldn’t resist licking her lips while counting.
None of this escaped Jenkins’ observant gaze.
A look of disdain crossed his face, accompanied by a sense of boredom.
Ever since experiencing Paradise, real-life thrills had seemed mundane and uninteresting, making it difficult to for him muster enthusiasm. Similarly, those who had participated in the games differed greatly from ordinary people, though he couldn’t quite pinpoint why; he could only vaguely sense it. For instance, after surviving two life-and-death situations, his perceptiveness and reaction speed felt rejuvenated, as if they had returned to the level of when he was twenty years old, perhaps even surpassing his youthful capabilities.
This realization had initially left him nearly overwhelmed with excitement.
No amount of money can buy back time. Despite accumulating vast wealth, his increasing age constantly reminded him of his body’s decline, exacerbated by his unrestrained indulgence in pleasures.
Now, however, there were signs that his abilities might be recovering.
The limp woman on the bed served as proof.
Yet conquering such average beauties did not provide much satisfaction for Jenkins, as anyone with enough money could possess them effortlessly. Beneath their attractive exteriors lay nothing more than soulless flesh. His prey should not be limited to these superficial encounters.
That person named Naruko seemed quite promising…
Especially during the act of killing.
Her defiant gaze, powerful movements, and swift, cheetah-like agility…
Wayne Jenkins grinned; perhaps he could use his connections to investigate Asahara Naruko’s true identity. Naturally, those participating in Paradise’s games were either wealthy or influential, far less accessible than the woman lying on his bed.
But isn’t it true that the greater the challenge, the richer the rewards?
“Ding-dong.” The doorbell rang at that moment.
Jenkins picked up the intercom on the table.
“Sir, your room service has arrived.”
“Come in.” He casually pressed the button to unlock the door.
The sturdy oak door swung open, revealing a hotel waiter pushing a meal cart into the room. Noticing the stunning woman dressing nearby, his eyes visibly hesitated. “sir, I…”
“It doesn’t matter, just do what you’re here for,” Jenkins chuckled nonchalantly. “If she weren’t leaving soon, I wouldn’t mind sharing her services with you.”
“You must be joking…” The waiter quickly bowed their head, pushed the cart to the dining table, and began arranging the food.
“Next time you need anything, remember to contact me.” The woman tied her high-heeled shoes, winked at Jenkins, and then reluctantly left the room.
With the dull sound of the door closing, Jenkins suddenly noticed out of the corner of his eye that the tablecloth under the serving cart had been lifted.
A figure darted out from under the cart like lightning!
“F**king hell!” He let out a roar, but just as he turned around, he received a brutal blow to the head!
Instantly, it felt as if a massive bell were ringing inside his skull, with a buzzing noise resonating from his scalp down to his teeth. At that moment, he clearly saw the true identity of his assailant—a young girl, no more than sixteen or seventeen years old, wearing a white kitchen apron and holding an iron pot.
“You little bastard!” Wayne Jenkins, suppressing the intense pain, reached back to grab his attacker. Clearly unprepared for her strike failing to knock him unconscious, she reacted too late. Just as she tried to escape, Jenkins already had a hold on her collar.
He forcefully slammed the girl onto the floor, gripping her throat with both hands.
Blood streaming down from his head dyed his vision red, its metallic scent fueling his adrenaline.
In the past, such a surprise attack would likely have knocked him out instantly. However, he had undergone a transformation; even death seemed trivial compared to this newfound strength.
Mustering all his power, he aimed to choke the enemy unconscious. The girl desperately struggled, but their significant difference in size and strength proved insurmountable. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t pry open his grip—
Bang! Another dull sound echoed.
Jenkins slowly turned around to find the waiter standing behind him, holding a sturdy rolling pin in hand.
“You son of a…” He muttered before collapsing onto the ground, unconscious.
“Are you okay?” As soon as Jenkins went limp, the waiter rushed to help the girl up.
“Cough…cough…” She gasped for breath, taking several moments to recover. “Damn, how is this guy so tough?”
“Perhaps you missed your mark,” the waiter whispered.
“How could I? I’ve practiced that strike hundreds of times! Besides, with all the people I’ve taken down before, none ever resisted like this. Wait, it must be some demonic trick!” the girl suddenly realized. “Bran, get me a rope, quick. We need to tie him up securely, just in case he wakes up and tries one last desperate struggle.”
“Leave it to me.” The man called Bran promptly sprang into action.
The girl stood up, pressing her hand over one eye. Suddenly, her other eye emitted a peculiar glow—though faint, upon closer inspection, it resembled countless galaxies twinkling within its depths.
“I knew my intuition was right; this person is indeed tainted by a demon,” she thought. Following the elusive green light in her vision, she quickly found a VR headset hidden in a travel bag on the sofa. “Got it! It seems the demon communicates with him through this device.”
“Hmm, using games as a medium? This demon sure keeps up with modern trends.”
“Don’t underestimate demons!” the girl warned sternly. “They are cunning and treacherous, possessing unimaginable power. Once ensnared, you’ll inevitably become their slave!”
“Yes, yes, you’ve said that many times already,” Bran replied, clearly unconvinced. He pursed his lips, adding, “No matter how powerful they claim to be, can they dodge bullets?”
She pondered seriously for a moment before responding, “I suppose not.”
“Well, there you have it,” Bran smiled. “Besides, if demons merely deceive souls and enslave people like in legends, today’s corporations do a far better job at that.”
“While true, demons possess the ability to reshape the world, constantly evolving until they become everyone’s worst nightmare.” She shook her head, disagreeing with her companion’s view. “Take those large corporations you mentioned—their origins trace back to the ‘company’ organizational structure, which was first invented by none other than demons themselves.”
“Uh… Luo Di, where did you hear all this from?” Bran rubbed his forehead, “I’m guessing not from history books, right?”
“The source doesn’t matter; what’s crucial is to halt the corruption of the world by demons… and that’s something only we can achieve.” The girl put on her VR headset and cautiously sat down on the sofa, “I must confront the demon now, unsure of the risks involved. Listen carefully, Bran, no matter what happens, stick to the plan. If I haven’t woken up within thirty minutes, leave the hotel alone—don’t get caught by the police.”
“Wait, are you serious?” Bran frowned, “Joking aside, how do you plan to catch demons through VR? And there’s no way I’m leaving without you. Even if I have to crawl, I’ll carry you out with me!”
The girl opened her mouth, her lips forming the word “thanks”.
Suddenly, a series of green lights erupted around her body!
Bran’s eyes widened, utterly stunned. At that moment, he finally sensed something was terribly wrong!
“Luo Di!”
He dropped the rope in his hand and rushed towards the sofa! However, the light appeared swiftly and vanished just as quickly. After the glow faded, the sofa was empty, devoid of any trace of her presence.
