Chapter 122: The Battle of Intelligence
Locating targets was never an issue for Chaoyang. As long as he could see someone, he could project his ability upon them—such as drawing a player’s consciousness into another body.
If this action were only half completed, his Wish Power would cling to the target like spider silk, present there till he personally removed it. Normally, he avoided doing this because maintaining such a connection drained Wish Power, and on Earth, Wish Power consumption was alarmingly high. For example, while creating a body in the Paradise World required only 50 units of Wish Power and it can be maintained for half a day, while with the same amount on Earth, he could barely create an illusion. And turning it to achieve a physical form would require at least 300 to 400 units.
Thus, aside from his unique Cyber Eye ability, he rarely used demonic powers here, fearing a misstep could lead to utter bankruptcy and could lead to kick the bucket if he’s not careful.
Fortunately, the most arduous phase was behind him.
Now, he possessed enough Wish Power to sustain his life for three to four years. Even on Earth, he could use his abilities without the previous trepidation, which was like walking on thin ice.
At 3 A.M. local time (8 P.M. on the opposite side), Chaoyang took advantage of Tyler’s time in the study to complete the wish power attachment and also used this opportunity to observe his daily life in the study. No matter how one looked at it, Tyler appeared as a model corporate executive—replying to emails, calling subordinates, chatting with his wife, and even reading a book for a full hour. These actions couldn’t be faked so naturally without years of ingrained habit.
If he were an ordinary person, by this point he would have largely been ruled out as a suspect. But if the suspect knew the existence of demons, then the situation would be entirely different . It was precisely because of that knowledge that the suspect can perform so flawlessly.
The next day, Chaoyang, using a street camera, noticed that Tyler had left by car. He immediately relayed the information to Luo Di. The Skull’s Hand, which had already been waiting near Tyler’s home, sprang into action. Their plan was quite simple.
Coalball, the mechanic, will play the slow car, deliberately decelerating in front to force Tyler’s car to slow down. And then Hill, who had been trailing right behind, would then play the role of an impatient driver—relentlessly honking and attempting to overtake from the left lane. Unfortunately, Hill’s car will lack the horsepower to accelerate swiftly and even at full throttle, would only result in the two vehicles traveling side by side for roughly three to four seconds.
And Hill like planned continue straight ahead, diverging onto a separate road from the targets vehicle. Meanwhile, Coalball took a right at the next intersection, and the road quickly returned to smooth traffic flow.
This was nothing more than a common lane changing and overtaking scenario on the road, which only lasted fewer than 10 seconds. The mission went as planned and in that brief moment of when the car traveled parallel to each other, Luo Di successfully captured and connected to the demon’s Wish Power.
“Done,”she reported to Chaoyang. “I bet Tyler didn’t even notice.”
“I was watching, it was indeed neat and efficient,” Chaoyang remarked, disengaging from the intersection’s surveillance feed. “Good work.”
Recruiting professionals really made things effortless. If he’d flown to Britain himself and conducted the tailing, it would never have gone so smoothly.
“That’s all you need me to do?”
Chaoyang hm’ed in acknowledgment and added, “Just send me the places he visits over the next five days. Use Fengge Maps (1) to mark the routes.”
“Understood.”
Afterward, Chaoyang returned to his regular routine. Beside waiting for Luo Di’s updates, he also took some time out to visit the other world. His plan was to check on the progress of the Cathedral’s renovation and to ensure that the Destiny Gate Pharmaceutical Company’s operation were running normally. In his absence, the antibiotic factory’s fermentation temperature were being monitored by Jeanne and several nuns, and the Pharmacy was also managed by Cathedral personnel, so there were unlikely to be any major issues.
The newly formed security team had expanded to over a hundred members. Their current primary weapons were miner’s picks and wooden spears. While the orders for flintlock firearms had been placed, the shipments had yet to arrive. Xue Quan’s absence had indeed impacted the team’s training, but fortunately, the miners’ lives improved significantly after becoming security personnel. In their spare time, they remained generally well-behaved and even assisted with odd jobs at the Cathedral.
This observation led Chaoyang to realize a crucial issue.
Even though the players summoned from Earth possessed remarkable skills and knowledge, they couldn’t stay in the other world permanently. Their absence often stalled operations. The only way to effectively alleviate this problem was by having more locals join Paradise.
Perhaps it was time to establish a training program at the Cathedral.
This routine of life persisted until the third day for Chaoyang, when a sudden shift occurred.
After Luo Di sent the previous day’s tracking data, Chaoyang noticed Tyler had driven beyond the city limits. He traveled south via Stain Street, circled the southwestern mountain roads multiple times, and then returned to the company building. According to his schedule, however, he should have spent the entire day at the pharmaceutical factory, hosting inspections by partner organizations.
Chaoyang immediately reviewed the company’s surveillance records. from the Tyler’s company, and the findings were equally startling. Tyler had appeared repeatedly in the footage, and even engaged in friendly discussions with the partners. The car registered under his name was parked quietly in its designated spot, showing no indication he had ever left the company.
He glanced at the map of L City and noted that the southern region was a mountainous area, with sparse surveillance coverage and significantly lighter traffic compared to urban areas—making it virtually impossible to track a car in such a place.
Chaoyang finally understood why he had never been able to find anything suspicious about Tyler before. Tyler wasn’t just guarding against online tracking, he also possessed a strong awareness of counter-surveillance in the physical world. He even had a double that looked almost identical to him! The company was the easiest place for him to change his identity, as the building had too many surveillance blind spots; and the remote mountain roads allowed him to quickly determine whether someone was tailing him.
If it weren’t for Luo Di’s ability to continually lock onto that strand of Wish Power, Tyler’s whereabouts would have been remained invisible.
This revelation drastically elevated Tyler’s suspicion. Combined with his prior ties to Joe James, Chaoyang was pretty certain that Tyler had a hidden identity.
Unfortunately, Luo Di could only sense general movement and but not his specific stops. Thus, Chaoyang had no choice but to enlarge the map of City L, meticulously scrutinizing the areas along Taylor’s route, while also using online searches for key buildings in those regions to see if any unusual clues could be uncovered.
Until he stumbled upon the term “Walkso Cross.”
It was an old building constructed a century ago, located on the banks of Thames River in L City, and also served as the headquarters of Britain’s MI6. As a renowned intelligence organization, MI6 had always been responsible for foreign intelligence and secret operations, making significant contributions to Britain’s victory during World War II.
A place like this would never allow ordinary people to enter.
“It seems we’ve caught a big fish,” Chaoyang muttered to himself.
However, there was still one question that couldn’t be explained. If Tyler had always worked for MI6, there should be some trace in his records. After World War II, this intelligence organization gradually moved towards normalization, and recruitment procedures had to follow established protocols or paper procedures. Tyler’s age clearly didn’t suggest he could have participated in World War II. As a newly recruited intelligence officer, how did he come to own a pharmaceutical company? It couldn’t possibly be that MI6 created a fake background for him by establishing a pharmaceutical company worth billions, could it?
This made no sense logically or emotionally. Clearly, the answer could only be found through his own investigation.
Chaoyang closed his eyes and, bypassing layer after layer of secure firewalls, he silently infiltrated MI6’s headquarters network.
