Chapter 63: Guangming Temple
Hua Qing calmed down, looked at Cancan, and asked, "Do you want to go to the temple?"
Cancan nodded, biting her lip. She said, "Even before I transformed into a human form, I often heard about a temple in the far north where wishes come true. People even encounter things like thunder from the heavens there. Our luck has been really bad. Shouldn’t we go and pray there?"
Hua Qing chuckled lightly and said, "Worshiping gods?"
Cancan replied seriously, "Yes." She turned into a human form, twisted her small hands, and looked at him, "Can’t I do that?"
Hua Qing was silent for a moment, then smiled and said, "Praying to gods, yes, of course it’s possible. But Cancan, I am a god, so who should I pray to?"
Cancan was surprised, then scratched her head and said, "What you said seems to make some sense. But even gods can have bad luck, let’s go and pray." Looking at Hua Qing with a meaningful look that clearly said: you are an unlucky deity.
Finally, Hua Qing couldn’t help but laugh at Cancan. He said, "Since you like it, let’s go then."
As they were about to get up, Cancan quickly grabbed Hua Qing’s hand and refused to move, "No no no! We can’t go now, it’s thundering outside. Let’s wait for the weather to clear up before we go." She had a clever look on her face.
Hua Qing smiled and said, "Okay, we’ll do as you say." He calmed himself down a bit and said, "I’ll meditate for a while, you can take a nap too, I think you’re tired as well."
Cancan nodded eagerly, and Hua Qing arranged a place for her to rest. He sat not far away and began to meditate.
Cancan blinked her big eyes at Hua Qing and didn’t sleep. She just kept looking at him as if she couldn’t get enough of it. Hua Qing felt helpless under her eager gaze and asked, "What is it now?"
Cancan said, "What’s wrong with me? I just want to look at you. It doesn’t affect you, does it?"
Hua Qing chuckled and said, "Did you not affect me?"
Cancan nodded, "Nope!" looking quite sure of herself.
Hua Qing threw a secret manual to Cancan and said, "Since you’re fine and not sleepy, why not improve your skills properly and not hold me back every time."
Cancan got up with a grumble, ready to argue, but seeing Hua Qing slowly closing his eyes, she snorted and turned around to lie down. After lying down, she secretly extended her little hand from under her body and pulled the secret manual towards her.
Hua Qing opened his eyes and saw Cancan flipping through the manual attentively. He smirked and continued practicing.
His Snowflake Glass on his body needed the comfort of blood. It emitted a weak light within Hua Qing’s body, continuously drawing his blood from the cracks. Hua Qing meditated calmly, while Cancan sneaked a glance, quickly shut her eyes in horror, pretending not to see anything. However, her hand hidden in her sleeve clenched into a fist tightly.
After a thunderstorm, the sun shone brightly. Cancan stretched lazily at the cave entrance at dawn, happily saying, "Look, there’s a rainbow in the sky."
Hua Qing looked over, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple colors just like Snowflake Glass, except Snowflake Glass was a magical item, while the rainbow was just a regular natural scenery.
Hua Qing quickly tied a white silk cloth over Cancan’s eyes. Cancan nodded and asked excitedly, "Is there another surprise?"
Hua Qing said with a smiling voice, "Yes."
Holding her small hand tightly, they flew up quickly. In no time, they untied the white silk. Cancan looked out into the endless sky. She suddenly panicked, then remembered where she was seated. She looked down and her initial fright turned into joy.
She found herself sitting on a rainbow. The beautiful rainbow with seven colors looked like a bridge, and she was like a little fairy sitting on that bridge.
Cancan rested her head on Hua Qing’s shoulder. Strangely, she was no longer scared of heights. She hummed a little tune, "Hua Qing, let me sing you a song?"
Hua Qing chuckled, "You can sing?" They all knew how bad Cancan’s singing was.
Cancan was not upset. She said, "I don’t care, I just want to sing." She cleared her throat and softly sang, "Snowflakes falling, smoke curling, cold plum blossoms in the snow…"
Cancan’s singing was not pleasant, but in that moment, she just wanted to sing. She swayed her legs, leaned on Hua Qing’s shoulder, and clapped her hands in rhythm.
Hua Qing looked down and saw her face filled with deep affection. His heart warmed, and he held her hand. Cancan raised her head, and the two looked into each other’s eyes, sharing a smile.
"Hua Qing."
"Huh?"
"Can we not hurry on our journey? I want to take my time and enjoy the scenery. I never really paid attention before, but it’s so beautiful. The sky is beautiful, the clouds are beautiful, the rainbow is beautiful, and even the mountains and rivers are beautiful…" Cancan glanced at Hua Qing and coquettishly said, "Isn’t it nice?"
Hua Qing looked at Cancan for a long time and affectionately said, "Yes."
From that day on, the two of them traveled towards the far north. Hua Qing rode his sword slowly, and they walked while admiring the scenery. Occasionally, they encountered monsters, which were immediately defeated, thus helping the people.
Even though they were moving slowly, using the sword, it still took them more than half a month to reach the far north.
In the far north was Guangming Temple.
The temple was ancient and solemn. Cancan stood at the bottom of the steps and looked up, unable to see the end.
There were some ordinary immortals or maybe even monsters climbing the steps. Cancan stopped one of them and asked, "Excuse me, sir, how many steps are there in Guangming Temple? It’s so tall."
The monster glanced at the two of them and realizing they were extraordinary, replied, "There are ninety-nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine steps. You can’t use a sword or magic, you have to walk up step by step and make a wish for it to come true."
Cancan listened and nodded quickly, looking up to see Guangming Temple towering into the sky.
Distracted for a moment, Cancan suddenly saw a scene where Xian Yue, holding Snowflake Glass on her body, ascended the steps one by one, kneeling and bowing at each step. This repeated ritual showed her calm face filled with deep devotion.
Seeing blood seeping from her forehead, Cancan wanted to say something, but the image disappeared in an instant. Cancan grabbed Hua Qing’s hand and said, "Xian Yue has been here before."
Hua Qing paused, gazing at Guangming Temple, unsure of what to say at that moment. He pondered on whether the cycle of life truly exists, repeating endlessly. Xian Yue had been here before, and now he had arrived.
Hua Qing silently watched the temple and said, "Xian Yue has been here, what does it have to do with me. Let’s go!"
Without saying a word, Cancan hesitated for a moment, then stuck out her tongue and followed him up the steps. Climbing more than ninety thousand layers, reaching the top took Cancan two days. She was exhausted, gasping for breath, never expecting ascending stairs to be so difficult. Thinking of Xian Yue bowing at each step, she wondered about her deep intentions.
Although Guangming Temple towered high into the sky, it only had one floor. Inside the main hall, there were no offerings, only a base where a Buddha statue should have been. People arrived to worship at this nonexistent statue. When it was Cancan’s turn, she hurried forward, remembering Hua Qing was by her side, and pulled him along.
Standing to the side, Hua Qing remained calm, "I don’t need to."
Cancan was surprised, then said, "Since we came all this way, and you climbed these high steps, don’t you want to make a wish?"
Hua Qing gave a gentle smile and shook his head, saying, "No need."
Cancan pouted, unwilling to let go, and kept holding onto him. Hua Qing couldn’t resist her pull and said, "I am already a celestial being, there’s no need to bow to anyone, Cancan. You shouldn’t force others."
Cancan shook her head, refusing, and acted stubborn, "No. If you bow with me, then I will bow with you."
Hua Qing, feeling helpless, finally knelt down with her. Cancan put her hands together and closed her eyes.
In that moment of closing her eyes, Cancan suddenly seemed to see a deity, looking at her kindly and waiting for her wish.
Cancan said seriously, "Though I don’t know what’s wrong with Hua Qing, I wish for his well-being, always. For this, I am willing to give everything."
Just as she finished speaking, Cancan’s face turned pale and she opened her eyes in disbelief, unable to say a word.
She remembered everything.
