Chapter 41: The Giant Python
Cancan and her group quickly arrived at Xisha Land, where the vast and desolate marshland stretched as far as the eye could see, creating a sense of loneliness and oppression.
Since transforming into a human, Cancan had accompanied Hua Qing to many places, but she had never experienced such a suffocating atmosphere before, not even in Shadowless City. If Shadowless City still had a hint of liveliness, Xisha Land now felt completely lifeless.
Cancan tugged at Hua Qing’s sleeve and asked, "Is this Xisha Land?" After a pause, she added, "It feels really uncomfortable here."
Hua Qing nodded, "Indeed."
Even though Hua Qing was talking to Cancan, he looked around as if searching for something.
Cancan always felt like she had forgotten something, but she couldn’t remember what. She scratched her head and stood obediently next to Hua Qing.
Indeed, Hua Yun then asked, "Senior Brother, why isn’t Martial Uncle Mu Bai here?"
Cancan suddenly remembered what felt off earlier. Wasn’t that elderly white-bearded man supposed to be here? She looked around but didn’t see anyone.
Cancan joked, "Could it be that your Martial Uncle Mu Bai is lazy and ran away?"
Hua Yun glared at her angrily, "Nonsense, don’t slander my Martial Uncle Mu Bai."
Ignoring them both, Hua Qing swung the bell in his hand, watching it sway in mid-air, making a tinkling sound.
Cancan immediately became serious, knowing that the presence of Snowflake Glass around meant trouble, as colorful crystal shards of Snowflake Glass often led to big problems.
Hua Yun asked, "But what’s wrong?"
Hua Qing paused for a moment, then said, "Hua Yun, you take Big Green and Yu Xiu. I’ll take Cancan. Let’s search around, and if we encounter Martial Uncle Mu Bai or Snowflake Glass, don’t act recklessly. Just call for me."
Hua Yun nodded, "Agreed."
Cancan immediately followed Hua Qing, but before they went far, Big Green turned back and shouted, "Cancan, be careful!"
Cancan nodded seriously, "I understand, don’t worry."
Hua Qing fell silent for a moment and said to Hua Yun, "Come over here, I have something to tell you."
The two brothers stood aside, although they were very close, Cancan and the others couldn’t hear what they were saying, perhaps because of some kind of barrier. When the two parted, Hua Yun looked serious, but Hua Qing’s expression gave nothing away.
Yu Xiu thought Hua Qing was worried she might run away, which made her sadder, but she didn’t show it. She stubbornly said, "Don’t worry, I won’t leave."
Hua Qing didn’t explain anything, just led Cancan away. Cancan looked back at them and waved, loudly reminding them, "Don’t act impulsively, call for Hua Qing if needed!"
Hua Yun coldly chuckled at her reminder, with a hint of sarcasm, and said, "Let’s go."
Cancan made a funny face behind Hua Yun and complained, "He’s such a nuisance."
Hua Qing calmly said, "You don’t have to worry about Hua Yun, just focus on yourself. If you care too much about others’ opinions, it will only make you seem narrow-minded."
Cancan scratched her head, feeling a bit confused by Hua Qing’s words, but she thought it must be some profound truth, right? You see, being a wise person means always talking about these profound truths, but are they really useful? She pursed her lips, feeling uncertain, but regardless of being unsure, she trusted Hua Qing. Whatever Hua Qing said must be right.
She smiled and followed Hua Qing, her gaze inadvertently falling on their hands. Hua Qing held her hand, and their hands interlocked. For some reason, Cancan suddenly felt her face flush. She gently lifted the corners of her mouth, feeling a bit delighted. Taking advantage of Hua Qing’s distraction, she leaned her head towards him. Hua Qing looked down at her, "What’s wrong? Are you not feeling well?" There was a hint of concern in his eyes.
Cancan quickly stood up straight and shook her head, "It’s nothing, it’s nothing." With a serious face, she wouldn’t admit to herself that she was acting silly.
Hua Qing stopped, "You’re observing keenly. I feel like something’s not quite right here. This swamp is too quiet. If there really is Snowflake Glass, it wouldn’t be in the cracks of the rocks. There must be creatures here."
Despite the presence of creatures, the area remained so tranquil that even when they arrived, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. It was clear that this place should not be underestimated.
Cancan tightly held Hua Qing’s hand, "We’re together, we’ll be fine."
Hua Qing didn’t say anything, then asked after a while, "Have you ever thought about leaving? If you stay with me to search for Snowflake Glass, we will only encounter endless monsters, and your life will be in danger. Do you really want this kind of life? Is becoming my apprentice that important to you?"
Cancan looked puzzled at Hua Qing and said, "Becoming your apprentice is not important at all! I want to fight monsters with you because you are the one leading the way. And I believe you will keep me safe. When I was living alone on Shu Mountain, every day was boring, just passing time counting days, watching the sun rise and set. But now, every day is full of excitement. I think life should have some purpose, and I really enjoy this new adventurous life."
Hua Qing said seriously, "I am not all-powerful, maybe one day I won’t be able to protect you. But if that day comes, Cancan, you can blame me, but I hope you can stay positive. I want you to know that I only wish the best for you, not to harm you."
Cancan felt that Hua Qing’s words were strange. Since leaving the underworld, Hua Qing had been acting oddly, she couldn’t pinpoint what was wrong. But she felt like she could trust him.
Cancan stopped walking and looked at Hua Qing, "What are you worried about? Don’t be afraid, I’m here for you, and no matter what happens, I won’t blame you. You are the best, why would I blame you? Stop being so mysterious, you are a god, not a trickster, it doesn’t suit your noble character!"
Hua Qing remained silent.
The once melancholic atmosphere was suddenly gone.
Cancan spoke with deep meaning, "Maybe you were feeling down because this place gives off a desolate vibe. Even immortals can be affected. When I think about this, I realize that my optimistic nature is still good."
Hua Qing said, "You don’t need to praise yourself, right?"
Cancan smiled and said, "Of course I need it."
Hua Qing looked at her smiling face, fell silent for a moment, and solemnly said, "Cancan, I have something to tell you."
Cancan didn’t know what was going on, she chuckled and asked, "What is it?" Her heart was racing, wondering if he was going to confess his feelings.
"I…"
Before Hua Qing could speak, they heard a loud rumbling sound. Cancan turned around in surprise, but couldn’t see anything out of the ordinary. It was still silent where they were, but the vast marshland was now missing Hua Yun and his companions.
Hua Qing’s expression changed slightly, and he immediately said, "Hua Yun is in trouble."
Hua Qing pulled out the Icebreaker Sword, leaped into the air, and despite Cancan’s efforts to use magic, she was unable to. Frantically chanting spells, she saw Hua Qing about to disappear. In a panic, Cancan flew up and happily chased after him.
Although the marshland appeared vast and barren, it wasn’t the case. It was only after Cancan flew up that she noticed a distant mountain standing in the middle of the marshland. She couldn’t understand why she hadn’t seen it before and found it strange.
Cancan was unaware, but Hua Qing understood that they had encountered a barrier. As soon as they arrived in Xisha Land, they had entered a barrier. This was Hua Qing’s second time encountering a barrier. The first was because of Mo Yuan, but this time, he realized there was no trace of Mo Yuan’s presence.
Since it’s not Mo Yuan, it must be that creature.
"Gentle water, blue sky, birds in the sky…" A pleasant song was heard, Hua Qing frowned, not disturbed. He soon saw Hua Yun and others wrestling with a giant python. And their martial uncle, Mu Bai, seemed to be seriously injured, unnoticed by them.
The song was coming from the python. Just as it was about to strike, Hua Qing arrived and quickly stabbed at it. Hua Qing never showed mercy to monsters.
Hua Qing’s arrival relieved the pressure on the others. Hua Yun gasped heavily, shouting, "Senior brother, be careful, this python is too powerful."
When Cancan arrived, she saw the chaos on the scene and quickly joined the battle. Although her abilities were average, Cancan felt that more hands were always better.
The python glowed with golden scales under the sunlight, still singing, giving a very eerie feeling.
Cancan couldn’t rush forward, annoyed by its singing, she muttered, "So awful! Such a ghostly voice, can’t you stop singing?"
The singing abruptly stopped, the python stared at Cancan, swishing its body, its tail sweeping straight towards her.
Cancan barely dodged, stumbled, and grumbled, "These days, can’t even comment when your singing is bad. If you have any shame, just don’t sing! Terrible, terrible, terrible!!!"
The huge python was angry and ignored everyone else, charging straight towards Cancan.
