Chapter 7: The Floating Sky Giant Ship
Three days later, after Xu Fan finished watering the Seven-Color Flowers, he let out a sigh of relief.
Now, he could take it easy and do things he enjoyed.
Back on his little hill, Xu Fan pulled out a lounge chair and sat in the pavilion, soaking in the stunning mountain views.
With some downtime, Xu Fan’s mind wandered to his past life.
“If only I’d brought a computer with internet when I crossed over. At least it’d help kill the boredom.”
“This cultivation life is making me a bit too detached and desire-less.”
Xu Fan mused, watching the inner sect disciples fly by overhead.
“Time flows, but I seek eternity~~”
Just then, a massive ship, stretching ten thousand meters long, soared across the sky toward the inner sect.
Escorting the giant ship were several warships, each a thousand meters long, with hundreds of Golden Core Stage firebird riders patrolling the surrounding airspace.
Xu Fan gazed dreamily at the warships. Ships, giant vessels, and spaceships were his absolute favorites.
In his past life, he’d even crafted models of his dream designs, only for his mom to toss them out, calling them a waste of time.
“I wonder when I’ll get to board a giant ship.”
“Once I start learning artifact crafting, maybe I can build one myself,” Xu Fan said, watching the ship disappear into the sky.
This wasn’t his first time seeing the sect’s giant ship. From what he’d observed, this symbol of the sect’s prestige spent at least seven to eight months a year away.
Xu Fan figured the ship and its fleet were out scouting for resources.
Just then, the protective barrier rippled, followed by a pleasant chime, signaling a visitor.
Xu Fan sent out a beam of spiritual light, and a small door appeared in the barrier, just big enough for someone to pass through.
“What brings you here today? Mission accomplished?”
He didn’t even need to look to know it was Wang Yulun.
Wang Yulun limped toward the pavilion where Xu Fan sat.
“Got injured on a task. Need to rest for a few days. Thought I’d check if Big Brother Xu was around.”
Wang Yulun sat down in the pavilion, letting out a long breath.
Xu Fan glanced back at him, then turned to gaze at the mountain scenery. “With the light-body spell I gave you, a Qi Refinement Seventh Layer beast shouldn’t have been able to touch you. You really went all-in, huh?”
Wang Yulun scratched his head sheepishly. “That beast’s defenses were insane. Only your spell could break through.”
“I just wanted to finish it off, so I went for it.”
After two years of hanging around Xu Fan, he’d picked up on some of the newer terms.
“Your battle talent is seriously lacking,” Xu Fan said, shaking his head.
“Do you think fighting is all about one-shot kills? I’ve told you about positioning, kiting, and quick long-range spellcasting so many times.”
“If I taught you a close-combat defense spell right now, you’d probably forget it the moment you needed it.”
“Hey, I was just focused on taking that beast down,” Wang Yulun replied with a grin.
Talking about his combat techniques, they are largely influenced by Xu Fan, who inadvertently guided him during their conversations.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to slay a beast at the Qi Refinement Sixth Layer with his own strength at the Qi Refinement Fourth Layer.
“Forget it, you’ll figure it out eventually,” Xu Fan thought it was pointless to worry about such things.
“Don’t say that, Big Brother Xu! I came here today specifically to ask for advice on how to deal with beasts that have high defense and speed,” Wang Yulun quickly replied. This was one of his main reasons for visiting.
“You, a preparatory disciple of the Battle Hall, are asking me, a homebody who rarely steps outside? Are you out of your mind?”
Xu Fan responded without even turning around. To him, combat techniques were straightforward; some principles just clicked when you understood them, and teaching them was often more trouble than it was worth.
At that moment, Wang Yulun’s expression turned awkward. After spending so much time together, they knew each other well. The combat techniques they casually discussed were probably things even the elders of the Battle Hall couldn’t explain.
Even if he didn’t fully grasp everything, he could definitely sense that profound, almost mystical feeling.
“Don’t joke around, Big Brother Xu. Your talent for attack techniques is something I’m well aware of.”
When Xu Fan had saved Wang Yulun before, the wounds on the foreheads of the three beasts he had struck still sent a chill down Wang Yulun’s spine whenever he remembered.
To attack the same spot on three fast-moving beasts while only at the Qi Refinement Fourth Layer was nothing short of extraordinary.
At that moment, Xu Fan recalled Wang Yulun’s identity—a genius from a small family.
“Alright, here’s the deal. I’ll explain how to deal with these beasts, and in return, you tell me what you know about that giant ship that appeared in the sky earlier,” Xu Fan proposed. He had searched for information about that ship before but had come up empty-handed.
“You mean the Floating Sky Ship? No problem, I know quite a bit about it,” Wang Yulun replied immediately.
Xu Fan pulled over a chair and gestured for Wang Yulun to sit down.
He gently pressed his index finger, glowing with purple light, against Wang Yulun’s forehead.
In an instant, the world spun, and Xu Fan and Wang Yulun found themselves in a pure white space.
“Big Brother Xu, this illusion technique is incredible! Is this the soul manipulation technique?” Wang Yulun exclaimed, looking around in awe. It was rare for anyone to learn such spells during the Qi Training Stage.
Mastering this technique would likely require dedicating the entire Qi Training Stage to it.
“Yes, it’s the soul manipulation technique. In this space, you can unleash your full power.”
“Alright, let’s get to the lesson. I can’t maintain this with my spiritual energy for too long,” Xu Fan said.
The surrounding space began to shift, revealing a blue sky, lush grasslands, flowing rivers, and faint mountain ranges in the distance.
A Qi Refinement Seventh Layer Rock-Armor Mantis appeared.
“This is the fastest and most defensive beast I can think of.”
“I’ll give you fifteen minutes to see if you can kill it. Afterward, I’ll point out your mistakes,” Xu Fan added.
As soon as he finished speaking, the Rock-Armor Mantis raised its blade-like arms and lunged at Wang Yulun in a blur.
“Hey, you didn’t even say start!” Wang Yulun shouted, darting into action and clashing with the Rock-Armor Mantis.
Wang Yulun pushed the Light Feather Wind Technique to its limit, forming a spell seal with his hands. A flaming wooden spear materialized and shot toward the Rock-Armor Mantis behind him.
The beast suddenly accelerated, dodging Wang Yulun’s Fire Spear Technique with ease.
“Your speed is decent, but your Fire Spear Technique is too slow, and your spell prediction is amateurish,” Xu Fan commented bluntly as he observed Wang Yulun’s performance.
Wang Yulun hesitated for a split second, and the Rock-Armor Mantis seized the opportunity, slashing a wound across his body.
“And you dare to lose focus during a fight?”
“Keep going~”
